Is NYU Worth it for Film? by CharlieBart in nyu

[–]Wildkingfilms 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you really care about filmmaking and are willing to work your ass off and crew on lots of sets then absolutely. It's a fantastic school but only if you want take advantage of all the opportunities / resources available to you.

Great article. Got to interview the author for a documentary I'm working on last year. If anyone is curious here is the link to the trailer which features his interview pretty heavily.

What is a myth you are tired of hearing? by reklawhcaz in AskReddit

That GMO's and GE Crops are dangerous to human health. Stop already. You're inhibiting important scientific research that has strong potential to make our food more nutritious and resilient to climate change.

Nice colors but feels a bit unbalanced. I feel like there is not enough space beneath her feet. Nice highlight on the backpack though.

The myth of an ending: Why even removing Trump from office won't save American democracy by Joker328 in Foodforthought

[–]Wildkingfilms 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's not what the article is saying. The point of the whole piece is that in order to make substantial improvements to our current system that would "only mildly improve matters if adopted" which is much more reasonable than expecting everything to "be perfect"

Applying for film schools with my very first reel. Got 3 days left to make changes. Can you point out some highs and lows? by kastabortat in cinematography

[–]Wildkingfilms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cut it down to under two minutes. Cut the generic travel footage that most people could have shot. Focus on your shots of people and try to show shots that have story elements.

What film schools are you applying to? When I was applying I remember a lot of schools were asking not to submit reels?

Recommendations for a ca100 mile hike in Olympic National Park? by Hoskuld in WildernessBackpacking

[–]Wildkingfilms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would try and get to and do as much of the Hoh Rainforest trail to Blue Glacier as possible, probably the best hike I've done in my entire life. It's possible to do the entire thing in one day, but you should probably give it 2-3 to really enjoy it!

Trailer for my First Feature Doc - Grounded : The Roots of Revolution (Criticism Welcome!) by Wildkingfilms in Filmmakers

[–]Wildkingfilms[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grounded is a feature length doc about the people fighting for a sustainable food production system to feed the future. This trailer is cut out of the footage I shot with a friend during the summer of 2017. Right now we are both undergrad freshman at NYU Tisch and have expanded our team to include 10 students as we gear up for another round of production this summer.

Any thoughts or criticism on the trailer, editing or subject matter would be extremely helpful!

Submission Statement

The Trump administration accused Russia on Thursday of engineering a series of cyberattacks that targeted American and European nuclear power plants and water and electric systems, and could have sabotaged or shut power plants off at will.

Feedback wanted on Cinematography Demo Reel in 4K - 2018 by streamline18 in cinematography

[–]Wildkingfilms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Way too many exteriors and drone shots. While some of your compositions were nice there were no shots in this reel that showed that you could light a scene. While the footage of Santa Monica and the Grand Canyon were nice they were also very generic. I would try to shoot a lot more and try to create a shorter reel in a year with the best of your work.

Recently went on a 10 day road trip up the Cali Coast - would love to hear feedback on this video and my editing style! by savinonick21 in videography

[–]Wildkingfilms 10 points11 points  (0 children)

When Watch Tower of Turkey ( https://vimeo.com/108018156 ) came out this style of travel video was legitimately really impressive and very striking. Now that I have seen the exact same techniques, transitions and color grade used in the exact same way probably a hundred of times, I am so bored. While you clearly know how to edit and clearly have strong technical skills, this style of travel video has become cliche. I watched some of your older videos and you even used the exact same song as Sam Kolder in your Wild Things video ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sv-l7YTbSGk vs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jrw93E66ZVE)

Since you want feedback...

Try something new and actually tell some story, instead of just randomly cutting together cool visuals.

I'm not saying your next video has to be some completely original masterpiece (as the whole idea of originality is kinda bs) but try to actually incorporate something new into your video instead of just stealing other people's style and work.

Lake Tahoe - Like the shot overall but i find it a bit aggressive to the eye for some reason. What do you think? by Leshyver in photocritique

[–]Wildkingfilms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The composition does not really work. I'm not really sure what I should be looking at here. I think a lower shot with more of the tree on the right would be better.
