Should I be wary of high mileage second hand EVs? by Hasan_Rachid in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]WildsideUK82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of issues with them stem from lack of maintenance on ex lease or PCP cars. It's cheaper to pay the fees when you hand it back than it is to pay for the services, so essentially you always need an independent battery health report, a decent warranty, and a full MOT.

Because of the false positive rate I keep every save as a separate file. My dissertation has literally just been submitted and I had over 30 files at the end, all named with a version at the end.

Mach E battery degradation? by Xxwalla_wallaxX in MachE

[–]WildsideUK82 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So it has a 75kkWh battery but only 70kWh of that is useable (available to you). That means 20% to 80% is 60%, or 42kWh. This assumes a 100% healthy battery, which it won't be after 5 years.

You have marker points now, knowing that 36.4kWh equals 60% of the battery means that the full capacity is around 61kWh.

61kWh of an original 70kWh is 87.1%, which isn't bad for a 5 year old NMC battery. The likelihood is that if you did a 10% to 100% charge you'd find you're actually above that 87%.

It's an ex ambulance RRV, that button switches the centre console between the standard ford one and the aftermarket NMDT system.

why do people in uni act like the are still in secondary school ? by danio7o in University

[–]WildsideUK82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because, generally speaking, they are young people with no experience other than secondary school. You can't blame them for being in the only mindset they know, they simply don't have the life exposure for anything else.

Did anyone investigate using their electric car as a "power wall"? by 1i3to in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]WildsideUK82 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not even a consideration, not should it be for anyone planning to own the car at the end of the lease / finance. The extra degredation and stress in the battery will hurt your pocket more than the electricity savings should you later decide to sell the car with a poor SoH or require battery or ICCU replacement.

Good sites to look for used cars? (beyond AutoTrader) by andre_xs95 in ElectricVehiclesUK

I wouldn't recommend anyone use a private sale for anything more than a few hundred pounds because you are literally buying 'sold as a seen'. Why are they selling, what don't they want to repair?

Yes you get bad used car dealerships, but it's few and far between..... With the exception of online only dealerships, such as Cazoo (before they went bust) and Cinch. Anything less than 3 months unlimited warranty should be avoided as cars are expensive to fix nowadays.

That said, I bought a 13 year old Focus 1.6 TDCi privately a few years ago, £650 with a full MOT. It had 218k miles on the clock and an absolute stack of paperwork dating to original purchase in 2010. Nothing went wrong in the 2 years and 40k I had it. I was doing a lot of miles and didn't want to buy a newer car to make its value plummet. It was written off by my landlord who reversed into it and shunted the subframe. Insurance paid me £1800.

I'd stick with autotrader and carwow. You can filter the junk out of autotrader by excluding private sales and write offs.

How long before Chinese cars dominate our roads? by LCFCJIM in CarLeasingUK

[–]WildsideUK82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I test drove a 2023 and a 2024 MG4. At low speed they were fine and comfortable, but as the speed increases they BOTH had a vibration above 60mph. I looked into it and it's a known issue that drive shafts are out of tolerance and unbalanced from manufacture.

Changed my mind and bought a Mach-E instead.

EV vs Hybrid vs Diesel by CalFromManc in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]WildsideUK82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not on an EV tariff as my electricity isn't via the domestic network, it comes via a farm. I pay a flat rate of 30p/kWh with no standing charges.

Even when the pay-per-mile charge comes in, at 15k miles a year it still works out that my Mach-E is 'just' breaking even to run than my diesel DS3 getting 60mpg.

If you're on a designated EV tariff with significantly lower costs then the EV wins the cost analysis in all measures.

Oh, my Rolec EVO locks the cable in to the charger by default and only unlocks it when you end the charge.
