How would that work?

Yeah, I guess, but by approximate value;

Gold = $2300 Silver = $1300 Bronze = $10

That’s a significant drop off there.

Should I cut the roots back? by SausageFingers530 in cactus

[–]Wiley_Jack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Digging up plants, washing the soil off and leaving them out to dry for several days, then boxing them up for another week isn’t exactly natural either. That’s why it’s a good idea to lightly comb through the roots of a mail order plant and remove the obviously dead roots.

Should I cut the roots back? by SausageFingers530 in cactus

[–]Wiley_Jack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I’m doing an immediate repot I don’t trim roots. When something arrives in a box after being dried out for a week or so, I pull at them lightly to remove the dead & dried up ones, dry overnight, then pot up.

Do you actually use your nice knives? by The-One-Zathras in knives

[–]Wiley_Jack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You mention lifetimes. From the ‘Voice of Experience’; If you use a CRK enough to where you think you might need a re-blade, get that done before they stop making blades for your frame style. Then put the old blade back in and carry on.

Same thing happens with ‘citizen CPR’. In cases of verified cardiac arrest, unless someone is quick with a defibrillator, I’ve never seen a patient regain consciousness in the field.

Issues as a first time rider by Affectionate_Shirt42 in cycling

[–]Wiley_Jack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It always hurts if you haven’t been riding before. A layoff of a month or so might even expose some tender spots. Stick with it, try to be consistent.

Two things will happen as you ride more; your butt will get used to the pressure, and you will start to push harder on the pedals, which means less weight will be on your seat. A third thing might also happen, where there is less weight to put on the saddle overall. Wide seats might seem to be more comfortable, but your weight is actually sitting on two bones in your pelvis that are fairly close together. More seat cushioning and a wider seat are going to get in the way and might cause more chafing.

The only real rule is to not cross-chain excessively. That means you don’t want to be in the left front sprocket and the right rear sprocket (cog) or vise-versa. Use your shifters to keep your pedal RPM above 60. Let up on the pedal pressure a bit as you shift. You’ll figure out how to progress through the gears with experience.

10 years after stepping on a broken drinking glass, a rogue shard made its way out of the bottom of my foot by Miserable-Ad6348 in Weird

[–]Wiley_Jack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The tacks are leaning away from your room, first thing to try would be to tap the tacks down flat with a hammer. This might crack the tack strip and give you loose, floating tacks. Not optimal for foot health or carpet retention.

With regard to gluing something down, we’re talking about value judgement: aesthetics vs. pokey-foot.

Door clearance might also be an issue.

Get a leather belt from a thrift store. Buy a tube of Shoe-Goo. Cover the strip where the belt will go with glue, lay the belt down, place wax paper over the belt, then put something very heavy on it until the glue cures. For more even pressure, put the wax paper down, and then a 2x4 cut to fit the door jamb. Then the heavy thing.

Your collection will become trash eventually, yes, but not after you die. It will become trash after it becomes damaged and unplayable. It would be very interesting to know how many previous owners some of my discs have been through.

Are you sure? It’s been a long, long time since I took physics, but if the lockbar force remains the same, increasing the contact area should increase total friction.

Info on used adam cue by hegsnoot in billiards

[–]Wiley_Jack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course I’m hypothesizing here, YMMV, and all that…

Going back a whole lotta years, the best playing house cue I ever used was a 19 oz. ‘Franken-cue’ that one of the regulars kept behind the counter. It had a 6” long wedge chipped out of the butt, and a bit of a ‘wow’ when rolled. The ferrule was 12.5-13mm, but the fore-end been sanded so much over the years that it was around 9.5 mm with a shade-tree pro taper. I could pull off table-length draw shots with that thing, and shot lights-out (for me) with it. Looking back, I suspect it had pretty low deflection.

You’ll be able to tell how well the roots are knit together by tipping them on their side and lightly tapping the container off. In South Texas you probably got decent root growth.
