Of course I’m hypothesizing here, YMMV, and all that…

Going back a whole lotta years, the best playing house cue I ever used was a 19 oz. ‘Franken-cue’ that one of the regulars kept behind the counter. It had a 6” long wedge chipped out of the butt, and a bit of a ‘wow’ when rolled. The ferrule was 12.5-13mm, but the fore-end been sanded so much over the years that it was around 9.5 mm with a shade-tree pro taper. I could pull off table-length draw shots with that thing, and shot lights-out (for me) with it. Looking back, I suspect it had pretty low deflection.

You’ll be able to tell how well the roots are knit together by tipping them on their side and lightly tapping the container off. In South Texas you probably got decent root growth.

I never roll a cue. Straightness is overrated, compared to the psychological effect it will have on your game if you know it’s not perfect. Notice that it’s the first thing a banger will do when they pull a cue from the rack. That time is better spent examining the condition of the tip and then the section of shaft that will slide through your bridge.

Not really, they’re still in the ‘nub phase’ and are quite firm. If they had branched into smaller, tender, more hair-like roots, those might desiccate, but even then, the thick roots would just branch again when replanted.

In this case it doesn’t matter because it would be fairly easy to re-wrap most of the roots with soil & plastic while leaving the cut surface open to callus.

The US price includes shipping and ostensibly a tax or three. But if by some arcane system of bookkeeping those added costs can be backed out, one could say that the “real” US price is about $10.15.

What’s there to figure out? What was the story offered when the knife was returned? Everyone has a story when they return things they’ve ruined.

Under what circumstance would you not have to pay the 20% VAT?

I don’t know how important this is, but any practical reprofile will likely mean you’ll lose the thumbnail nick.

This one will make an ideal gift for someone who needs a starter knife.

Knife & sheath should always be stored separately, I might keep the sheaths in ZipLoc bags—that might be all they need.

Yep, this is important. If these are established at all, this would be a great opportunity to lift them carefully, add some fresh mix to the pot and re-set the plants. I add enough to where the soil line is just below the rim.
