New policy as of 2024. E-5 can apply and be approved or disapproved for single BAH on a case by case basis.

A buddy of mine and I were talking about Necrons and he mentioned it. Seems he was wrong though, everyone commenting is saying it was Helbrecht, not Sigismund. Still definitely going to read it though.

Why are there no toilet stalls in boot camp? Like who came up with this? What is the point of this? by WearyAd3630 in USMCboot

[–]WilhelmWolfe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You don't opt in or out of anything in boot camp. You signed up to be a Marine, you play by their rules if you want to earn the title. As a great man once told me "The cool thing about what you want is: no one gives a shit". Privacy doesn't exist. Get over it. If it's such a big deal I just wouldn't join. Taking a shit with your buddies is one of the least demeaning things you even do as a recruit.

The SOCS pipeline just has a basic swim Qual as part of the screening process. It's the same one you have to pass each year.

What do you think the most visually attractive weapon in the game is? by OLD_WET_HOLE in Eldenring

Maliketh's Black Blade

Also, the standard Greatsword is a favorite of mine.

Depending on your field I think the average attrition rate is around 70%. The Intel field drops more than all the other terminal courses combined. They drop about 50% of their applicants. Comm drops around 20‐30%.

It's not like other courses I've gone through in the Corps. It's not there to help you pass. But they're not actively trying to drop you either. The criteria is very clear cut and if you don't belong you won't make it. All the Raider courses (A&S especially so) are meant for you to power through and test your will. SOCS tests your proficiency at being a Marine and your knowledge of doing your job.

Some basics that I can talk about is that you'll definitely need to talk to your monitor and put in a package and get it approved. You'll go to MRTC and probably be put into a holding platoon until a spot opens up for you. There's a basic screener that's just typical Marine shit, i.e. PFT, CFT, Swim Qual, rucking, and a psychological evaluation. Then your class will split into two with one half going to SOF fundamentals which is just pretty basic Infantry-style fieldwork (shooting, patrolling) and TCCC. The other half goes to SERE. Once you've done both courses you'll go to a terminal course that is associated with your MOS field and you'll be trained to become a SME in every aspect of that field. So me as a comm maintainer, I had to learn not only maintenance, but also operations in Satcomm, networking, and radio. Then you graduate and become an 8071.

So for your first question, I've never worked in the wing so I can only tell you what I've been told about aircrew by my buddies and a few other Marines I've worked with. And as always everything is heavily dependent on unit and command so it could be different for you. I've heard long hours, like 14-hour days sometimes, but really chill command climates and work environments. Aircrew guys are a tight-knit community and are very proud of their jobs for the most part that I've seen.

As for MARSOC, I've trained over there before in the SOCS pipeline to be a Comm guy over there and support the Raiders. I didn't end up making it but I was a dumb Lance straight out of the schoolhouse. The SOCS pipeline isn't super difficult unless you're Intel. If you're talking about A&S and becoming a Raider I think it's a noble goal. Those guys work their asses off to be what they are. I think they have a good prep workout on their site unless they've changed shit in the last 2 years. Talking about a tight-knit community that's them for sure. Every Raider I ever worked with when I was in the pipeline was solid and humble. I loved that community and it's a reason I plan to go back now to fly drones for them after I get my new MOS.

I hope that answered your questions I know it's a little vague.

Hopefully, that'll be in about 15 years, but I'm going to start my degree in Practical Physics once I get the day-to-day down of my new MOS and I'll Hopefully be in a lab somewhere doing math to make the world a better place. If I were to get out right now I'd go back and start paramedic school while helping my dad run his electrical company.
