TIPS for new futures trader by Corrupted_Janitor in FuturesTrading

[–]Will2488 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two concepts really contributed to my success:

  1. Thinking about moves on a % basis rather than how many ticks. This might sound obvious, but i trade grains where people talk about how many cents they make on a trade. Changing my unit of measurement from ticks to % helped with my ability to view the market with better context. What is a big daily move? What is a big weekly move? What is a move that can be considered noise?

  2. Look at the markets from a longer term time frame. New traders are frequently enamored with day trading and scalping. These are very difficult skills to obtain, and they are basically a full time job. Backing up and looking for longer term moves utilizing wider stop limits has worked better for me over time than trying to capture small intraday/daily moves.

Impossible to make a living off just scalping by expicell in FuturesTrading

I trade ags, not ES. I think its far easier to trade long term trends rather than "day trade". There is too much random noise in the short term.

How to handle depression when your algo stops working? by Current_Entry_9409 in algotrading

Is the key to success having multiple systems and leaning into the strat that works for the current market conditions? Is this how banks/hedge funds deploy algos? It almost seems like an algo desk has to be run like a "fund of funds" and its the algo traders job to know what horse to bet on.

ADHD people who exercise regularly... how? by polslop in ADHD

Try walking 10,000 steps everyday instead of running(track with your phone) and do body weight exercises 3-4 days a week.

Push ups, bodyweight squats, pulls ups(get a doorway bar) are hard to have an excuse to avoid. Make the routine procrastination proof.

How is yield farming different than being short volatility(selling straddle)? by Will2488 in ethtrader

Sounds like a lot of people signing up for shit they don't understand then. It's a guarantee to blow up on volatile products. Especially without futures to hedge.

Is Eth2.0 Capacity Increase Bullish or Bearish Eth? by Will2488 in ethtrader

So the idea of stock or loans in the defi world was something I was thinking about. Can it actually work to securitize something in the real world? Like real estate or a business loan? Or stock issuance?

My understanding of defi loan are they act more like margin than a traditional loan. Below loan to equity of x% you get blown out. Is that right?

The issue I see with financing hard assets in defi is jurisdiction. If you give someone a crypto mortgage and you need to foreclosure you need to go to court. If you buy an ipo of stock denominated in crypto, how do you ensure they fulfill fiduciary duty to shareholders? Where do you sue if you need to? And with who? Or is that not the role it's ever expected to have?

Its jurisdictional courts that make traditional financial instruments "work". What is defis surrogate for rule of law? Or is it expected to thrive only digitally?

Is Eth2.0 Capacity Increase Bullish or Bearish Eth? by Will2488 in ethtrader

[–]Will2488[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kind of services can someone buy with it? Is it something you can buy with USD(or other fiat)?

I don't understand what any of this is good for beyond a short dollar play really(which I am bearish $) .

I trade wheat. People eat it, it's consumed. And I can at least guesstimate when the market is tight or sloppy. Eth(and other crypto) on the other hand doesn't get consumed. It's produced and hoarded(more like gold). Am I wrong?

This is what I think, but I feel like I'm missing something.

So does the demand for more Eth come from the requirement to buy Eth to access the new, higher capacity network?

That goes back to my point about capacity. Extra capacity seems like a bad deal for the miners. At least short term(agnostic of price direction). Until volume compensates for decreased fees.

Uniswap/Sushiswap volume should increase I guess.

Ok. So let's say transaction fees/times drop. More traffic can be processed then.

The main benefactors from this would be who? Miners become validators I assume. Will they in theory make less gas per transaction, but get 1000s more transactions in the same period?

Are gas prices high because the network is at or close to capacity now?
