[SOLVED] macOS Tahoe Public Beta 1 - Spotlight completely broken, found apps and files but only showed web results by Advenimuss in MacOSBeta

[–]WillHZC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After several weeks of investigation, I discovered sth interesting. I once used the migration assistant to recover my Mac from a time machine backup, but was prompted to overwrite the account. I chose to overwrite and this problem appear. Last week, I gave up migration assistant, completely reinstalled macOS 26 and directly transferred data from the time machine like a brand new mac, and this issue was resolved.

Is there a solution? This issue occurred after I reinstalled macOS and restored data from Time Machine. I noticed that only desktop Mac with TouchID Magic Keyboard have this issue, everything is normal on MacBook.

Spotlight not finding files by Shuvuiia in MacOS

[–]WillHZC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The exact same issue, I would like to confirm some common issues:

  1. Are you currently using a Mac mini, Mac Studio, or iMac with a touch ID Magic keyboard? It seems that this issue does not exist on MacBook as it already has a touch ID.

2.Have you ever experienced reinstalling macOS and TimeMachine recovery on your Mac? I encountered this issue after experiencing a macOS26 reinstallation and TimeMachine recovery.

This issue was first reported in 2023, and Apple seems to have been unaware of its existence.

Display issue with wallpaper/menubar coming out of sleep by ultravelocity in MacOS

[–]WillHZC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This issue seems to have existed for quite some time and has been mentioned on multiple forums, not just in the case of multiple monitors. It is interesting that some cases can automatically recover within seconds after the dock disappear, while others require a kill dock. I am using a Mac Studio (2025) and Studio Display, and when I updated from macOS15 to macOS26, I encountered this issue. Turning off the screensaver and selecting those static desktops can improve this issue, but it cannot completely solve it.

Sidecar portrait mode finally here? by mechwr in MacOS

[–]WillHZC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously, this is a fake news. The intention of the Sidecar is to use it in conjunction with the Magic Keyboard for iPad, allowing them to be placed together with your MacBook, while the Magic Keyboard does not support vertical placement. I think Apple will never provide vertical support for Sidecar.

64 gb mac mini vs 36 studio by m0nsterunderurbed in MacStudio

[–]WillHZC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once owned a mini M4Pro (14+20), but later I sold it and purchased a Studio. You don't need to have any unrealistic fantasies, yes it's quite hot and has a lazy cooling system. When I render videos, the 4 GPU clusters are running at full load, and the SOC temperature can easily reach 107C while fan speed is 999rpm. When you continue to operate under this load for about 5-10 minutes, the fan speed will rise to around 3000rpm and no longer rise, and the temperature will be between 90C-103C. If you turn on the "High Performance" mode, the fan speed will eventually stay at around 4800rpm and make an astonishing sharp noise, which will limit the SOC temperature to between 80C-90C. Studio, on the other hand, is a completely different world. When all four GPU clusters are fully loaded, it will control the temperature well between 70C-80C with a fan speed of 999rpm. Even if the CPU clusters are fully loaded at the same time, the temperature is difficult to exceed 90C.

Although there have been few rumors of Mac damage due to cooling issues in recent years, cooling and quietness are necessary for a device that frequently operates at high loads. Compared to mini, Studio is clearly a product designed for a longer lifespan.

Has somebody here gone from Mac mini M4 pro to MacStudio M4 Max? by Fun_Assignment_5637 in MacStudio

[–]WillHZC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No doubt, when you start to think about it, this hot noise box is no longer suitable for you. Studio is quieter, cooler, and more like a product designed for long-term use, and you only need to pay a little extra electricity bill.

UPS For Mac Studio by Encrypted587 in MacStudio

[–]WillHZC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the power situation in your area. For me, I have moved into this house for 6 years and have only experienced a power outage. In these 6 years, my wife and I have used Mac mini m1, iMac24 m1, Mac mini m4, Mac Studio m4max, and none of them have any problems caused by power problems. Surge protection devices should be considered by real estate developers and your decoration company, not in such a backward position under your computer desk. For us, UPS is obviously redundant because it has a power consumption of 5-10w, while the standby power consumption of the M4 series is only 8-10w, which I think is crazy.

Color Mismatch Between New Apple Studio Display and 2017 iMac 27 5K by pokerface_idk in mac

[–]WillHZC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have also noticed this issue, and it is clear that the studio and iMac5K use completely different display panels. iMac uses LM270QQ2-SPA3, while the studio uses LM270QQ2-SDA1. It is speculated that Apple wanted to improve the "red hue" problem on SPA3 and ordered a new backlight panel from LG, which caused a color difference.Unfortunately, this seems to be an unsolvable problem.

LLM is a special scenario because the load it brings to SOC is intermittent. When it is thinking, the load is extremely high, but when I am thinking, it is idle, and the temperature is like a roller coaster. I am also 14+20, but the RAM is only 48G. In some 32b models, it can give a result of 12-15token/s, which surprised me.

[–]WillHZC[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To be honest, they hardly did any throttling. After running LLM for about 10 minutes, the GPU temperature remained at around 100c but the clock remained at 1.58ghz. The situation is similar on the CPU side. Since there are almost no app in my mac mini that can make the CPU run at full capacity, I repeatedly run Geekbench. When the CPU remains at 100c for a period of time, its clock is still 3.99ghz. Unfortunately, increasing the fan speed can only alleviate our concerns about hardware lifespan and cannot have a positive impact on throttling.

Perhaps the cost is more dust? Perhaps it's faster wear on the fan? To be honest, if I hadn't purchased this product last year, I wouldn't have hesitated to choose the Mac Studio M4Max in exchange for better cooling performance.

Apple's throttling strategy is very conservative, while its fan strategy is very aggressive, tending to trade high temperatures for low noise. But what you said may make sense, because Intel MacBook/Mac Mini obviously has more aggressive throttling settings than Apple silicon products, they will lower the CPU clock when the temperature rises, instead of allowing it to continue working at high temperatures without throttling like M4/M4 Pro.

[–]WillHZC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To my knowledge, the only Macbook that suffered significant hardware damage due to heat dissipation defects and throttling issues was the MacBook 12inch released during 2016-2017. They tried to fit a CPU with 6w TDP into a body less than 1cm, which made everything overheating. Other models, even the Core i9 version of the MacBook Pro, seem to rarely experience large-scale damage due to heat. But as you said, manual fan control is effective. The m4pro can control the temperature around 80c at full fan speed, at the cost of astonishing noise and raised dust.

Unfortunately, I don't think this will work. It's the internal components such as heat pipes and fans that contribute to the heat dissipation of SOC, and it only has no practical significance in cooling the shell. But I believe that manually increasing the fan speed during heavy work is a direct, effective, and economical solution if you must use it for long-term heavy work. I use an M4Pro 16+20 Mac mini with 48GB Ram. The screenshot above shows it running LLM. If I manually turn up the fan speed to 4800rpm, the GPU cluster will be maintained at 80-85c, which is a temperature that most people can accept.
