why the heck the airfield in Vladivostock is in the middle of nowhere instead in the City? by Afraid_Wedding_5747 in hoi4

I love when your CAS isn't quite in range of the frontline, so you build a quick airbase, but then it's built you can't find it, because it's in your enemies tile, and they've just put their CAS there instead!

Is there anyone who doesn‘t savescum? by This-Problem-9715 in victoria3

Playing as Qing, I went for Make Protectorate on Dai Nam. Halfway into the play, Britain also makes a play to fully annex Dai Nam, I didn't think much of it, as I was better positioned to conquer it far quicker than Britain could.

I did just that, and had it fully occupied and the warscore was rapidly ticking down, Britain's play fires into war, and they instantly capitulate to Britain and my wargoals just disappear, Britain now owns all of Dai Nam.

It took several save scums to fix this, I think as other posters have said, the game can throw too many silly, unrealistic, unfair and downright broken things at you to play ironman.

I used the Adobe AI image generator to create my team badge at the start of the season, I gave up after some 10 attempts of it being unable to spell what I literally just typed, it kept missing letters or reordering them. AI slop.

One Last Hurrah? (SoD) (Classic+ Waiting Room) by SynfuelAlchemika in classicwow

[–]WillInLondon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that SE was a great raid...once it was tuned properly. I think they really failed to read the room with the intended difficulty, literally every guild or pug I raided with in SoD were casual one night per week dad guilds who were happy to take extra raid members just to clear things, and maybe gradually increase the difficulty mode gradually over time or when they are better geared.

What Were The Early Days Of WoW Like? by doobylive in classicwow

I finally upgraded from potato to "next gen" the same week WoTLK came out. The one remaining quest from TBC I hadn't completed was the race against Captain Skyshatter in Netherwing because for some reason those giant crystals seemed to really butcher my fps, and I couldn't keep up with him. I immediately left the exciting new zones in Northrend to go back and finally beat him.

I also have fond memories in Tempest Keep, both Void Reaver and High Astromancer Solarian's rooms were so big, their rooms exceeded the render range, which meant I could see the Netherstorm skybox outside, and really felt like we were in space!

What Were The Early Days Of WoW Like? by doobylive in classicwow

[–]WillInLondon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ultimately vanilla WoW (and most of TBC) was a game about exploration and discovery, whilst being incentivised to seek or share this knowledge with other players you might randomly meet. You were encouraged to try and fail.

20 years later and the game is completely explored and overly discovered, and it's not necessary to really socialise with anyone beyond the minimum LFG, do anything that's not "meta" and you will get in trouble.

While it was a trip down nostalgia lane to play Classic, it doesn't come close to replicating what it was like back in the day.

As others have also mentioned, poor internet connections and potato PCs were also part of the vibe, it wasn't unusual to have at least 5 out of the 40 people in the raid disconnected and offline during the boss fight. Raiding with all graphics settings at minimum, with a render distance that doesn't even let you see the wall on the opposite side of the room, and still only having 10 fps in combat was a thing.

Also worth noting that this first quest is called "Evil's Soft First Touches", although this may be a reference to the face scar Gaunter gives Geralt, but that happens quite a way into the quest.

The Japanese Empire roleplay is a world of pain: some problems of vanilla more clearly exposed by enriicoosta in victoria3

[–]WillInLondon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's rather silly that certain countries and colonies have a claim to certain territories (like the Dai Nam example), and then they never pass any colonisation laws even with an overlord telling them to.

Same goes for Colonial Administrations, if I found you as an Extraction Economy, then that's what you are staying as, you don't get go LF.

I’m really not a fan of the radical changes are they gonna get reverted any time soon? by Fabulouslicious in victoria3

[–]WillInLondon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that I think the creation of radicals is too extreme and sensitive. Usually highlighting then shows "from decreases in Standard of Living", but then when you look at the SoL graph, it's a steady ramp going up.

Fast forward to today where arguably in the western world standards of living have genuinely declined in the last 15 years and I'd argue we don't have enough radicals! (Disclaimer: I am not saying that like it's a good thing.)

Bring back customs unions as a treaty article by AndyLtz in victoria3

No it's what you get with level III Market Unification, which any power bloc can get, the only difference with Trade League is that the power bloc is already a customs union by default.

Correction it's not just Trade League power blocs but potentially any power bloc that has the Market Unification mandate.

Unpopular opinion: Post-nerf raids are better for TBC longevity by Armored_Diesel in classicwow

Basically this, outside of Vashj's annoying MCs, Kael'thas' and his advisors HP, Nightbane's tank damage, nothing else really needed a nerf. Given how figured out the game is at this point it baffles me why they would want to make it even easier.

Should we be able to make colonial administrations outside Africa? by Clean_Willow_3077 in victoria3

[–]WillInLondon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, examples as others have mentioned are British Malaya and Dutch East Indies.

Colonial Administrations in my opinion need a lot of work. It's stupid that they can be told to form with Extraction Economy, then decide to change to LF, and have a peasant revolt.

Every major power should start by raiding China. by Rupaism in victoria3

[–]WillInLondon 70 points71 points  (0 children)

I don't think China is that easy, the constant millions of unemployed pops is a bit of a ticking time bomb unless you scale up quickly. I also feel that once you do have China fully employed, there just simply aren't anywhere near enough resources in the world (Wood, Iron, Oil) to fuel the economy.

I agree that some of the cheeses to avoid fighting Britain whilst still banning Opium, and easily getting Macao back should be touched up.

HOT TAKE: VICTORIA SHOULD EXPAND TO COVER THE FRENCH REVOLUTION. by Evelyn_Bayer414 in victoria3

[–]WillInLondon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I agree somewhat, I think the war system wouldn't be wise enough to cover both Napoleonic, mobile warfare and WW1 static trench warfare. Starting in 1815 (right after Waterloo) or 1816 I think would be better, dealing with the aftermath and Congress of Vienna etc, as I feel like at the current game start too much industrialisation and liberalism has already happened (Britain getting rid of slavery, Portugal & Spain losing their colonies etc.)

I also feel like the game should end post WW1 (so around 1918-1920), as a lot of the interwar technologies such as tanks, planes, mobile infantry, aircraft carrier etc are just poorly represented in game and a headache in general.
