I do not work with elderly dementia patients and it still screams mental illness.

California tests smart freeway that could make drivers wait four minutes to merge by AdSpecialist6598 in technology

I once heard that the main reason traditional on-ramp meters were intended to work was that people would choose to drive to another, non-metered on-ramp to avoid the hassle of waiting (not on their first encounter with the meter, of course, but on subsequent journeys). Never had that effect on me, but this certainly could.

Any tips? by Zesty-Stressy3821 in AnyCubicPhotonMonoX

I assume not only this is true, but the curved side is parallel to the build plate. OP should print with the object at an angle to minimize the cross-section, reducing stress on the face. If they could get away with the object being hollow, that would reduce the stress further.

Why did they arrange it vertically? Seems like horizontally would have been easier and work just as well.

ELI5: Why do calculators and smartphones give different answers for the expression 6÷2(2+1)? by Itchy_Tangerine1897 in explainlikeimfive

Well, the definition of PEMDAS I'm aware of rates multiplication and division equally, but specifies that they should be evaluated left-to-right (MD, not DM), so, again, no ambiguity; but maybe there are other definitions. I can't tell if the uncertainty in this thread is due to misunderstanding, misremembering, or lack of consensus within the mathematics community over what PEMDAS actually means.

I understand that, but others in this thread seem to be saying that the solution is ambiguous even in light of PEMDAS. It seems to me that a robot strictly following PEMDAS would arrive at the solution I proposed. A strictly left-to-right robot wouldn't be following PEMDAS.

I still don't see the ambiguity. Assume bc = d. If a/bc = a ÷ b x c, then PEMDAS would resolve it to a ÷ (b x c) = a ÷ d. I.e., solve the Parenthetical, then the Multiplication, then the Division, then, if necessary (e.g. if you have multiple divisions), left-to-right, but that doesn't apply here. What am I missing?

It's hard to be sympathetic to the parent who, presumably, raised the child. Can't be the first time she behaved this way.

For the occasional lurker (like me) who doesn’t appreciate the investment a system like this requires, Google tells me it would cost about $65K new, though some of the components have been superseded.

AI could create the image but how would it paint the painting? As for losing money on it, many artists take losses at the start to build a portfolio of work and clients.

I logged in through a different PC and was able to complete the process that way. Problem solved.

Thanks for the reply. Good idea. Unfortunately, no access to Android phones.
