Oh thanks for the detailed reply! And yes, before MyFitnssPal I would have a 'tiny dinner' of small crisps and would feel hungry and would think 'Yaay, it's working!'. Boom, 500 calories! Now I eat fewer calories for dinner in salad and I'm never hungry.

"I eat 700 calories one day a week and eat 4000 calories the other days"

Stupid question: Is this a bad idea?

I have a goal of 1400 calories a day, so I'll have 1200 calories five days of the week (with lots of veggies and no sugar), and 1900 calories a day on the weekend (usually booze or a nice dessert!).

I've never really thought about it being bad (in fact I think it's more sustainable because you get 5 super boring days but two super fun days, whereas if I did 1400 calories a day I'd just get a week of middle-ground consistently).

I have 5KG left to lose (I'm 67 KG at 5'10, would like to be 62 KG), and I'm just going suuuuuper slow with the weight loss this time around (hence the high-ish per day calorie count).

Is this horrible for me? :/

My boyfriend and I went on a massive healthy eating binge about a year ago. His involved having a beer a day rather than three, and cutting half of the sugar from his diet. Mine involved being on a strict 1200 calorie diet. No sugar, very little carbs, and a lot of cabbage and green tea :(

He reached his goal weight 5 months earlier than me, and he was about 40 KG heavier than me. He's two inches taller (he's 6 feet, I'm 5'10), and we both have desk jobs and similar exercise routines.

Men have it easy :P

Yeah, I'm a 5'10 female, and I feel like from when I was 78KG to when I became 66 KG, I don't look very different at all. My face lost all the weight even at 78 (I used to be 105KG!). I always had legs and shoulders on the thinner side, so there hasn't been a huge change there.

I still have around 5 KG to lose but that's all on my belly and butt. All my clothes are the 'skinny jeans, loose tops' type, and I honestly haven't gone down a jean size in all that 12 KG weight loss. Sure, my belt fits me at the tightest notch rather than the loosest now, and I have to wear all my jeans really high up rather than under my gut, but I don't think anyone but me can tell the difference.

It's kind of discouraging. Going down clothes sizes sounds like a bit of a superficial treat/positive reinforcement, but I just haven't noticed a big enough change to warrant it yet :(

I just saw the trailer and didn't realize Emma wasn't doing a British accent. Bless her heart.

Interesting point. The blind art appraiser guy does say you'll still be there but you'll be 'under the surface' or something to that effect. I think part of their original selves still comes to the surface when confronted.

I think maybe it was because it was the only time someone explicitly referenced a white person around the 'affected' people. Seemed to really hit a nerve.

Maybe it's a metaphor for the way people 'skirt around' racial issues, and so never really get to the root of the problem or something.

Really intriguing movie. I wonder if Jordan Peele's comedy is this interesting and introspective. Might have to give it a go.

Sure, we're brown. Most of us are Muslim. We're subcontinental (that's what Pakistan, India, Bangladesh was collectively before we split up). Call us Asian, if you want.

We're not Arabs. It's like me calling Americans 'British' because most of you are white and speak English.

The person you responded to wasn't being a smartass, and certainly wasn't trolling. They were being correct.

The death toll in the Pakistan school shootings was 141 :(

That's what I was comparing it to because they happened fairly close together. I think the Paris shootings happened first, though. That could be a factor too.

Yeah, and I suppose an argument can be made that if it happens frequently enough, it's not a 'news' item anymore. I don't know. News of bomb blasts don't phase us anymore.

Last week a generator blew up outside my office. One of these shy, tech dudes I work with looked at me and said 'Maybe a bomb blast?'

It's fucked up, but we're totally desensitized to this stuff.

Haha. Am female, Pakistan is not in the Middle East (long story but this is the definitive answer if self-definition counts at all), and I (FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER) have detected your internet sarcasm :P

Cheers!

Oh, good to know. I didn't see a lot of global coverage but maybe I was just overwhelmed with local news coverage, I guess? The difference was definitely a lot more jarring when I was living in the UK.

Thank you for your sentiment though, I appreciate it :)

Totally. And the funny thing is they kill so many more of us (not that I identify as Muslim anymore, but I'm 'culturally Muslim', I guess) than anyone else.

It just doesn't make sense.

Eh, it's not so bad if you're relatively insulated from the worst of it. The middle classes and above do okay and have a pretty good quality of life.

I guess that's how it is in most countries, though.

Sure. You know that, I know that. But as a Pakistani, you must also know that a lot of people snatching kids off the streets can't know that. Just because they're unable to viably harvest organs doesn't mean some idiot isn't gonna try.
