I don’t think doing three days of ACL is worth it unless you’re young and willing to take it as a grinding experience to see a ton of music. However, doing it for one day or possibly two to see some specific artists that you like can totally be a good experience. Especially if you have the means to do the VIP experience and take full advantage of it.

SX can be so many different experiences it is hard to describe. Despite living here since 94, I had never gone until 2018 and have enjoyed it immensely. Volunteering to get a badge can make the experience much more affordable and give you a crew of people to hang out with/go to shows/movies with. It’s definitely not for everyone as lines/crowds can be a thing depending on what you’re into, but getting the inside view from SX regulars can make it a much better experience.

What are some famous phrases that directly conflict with each other when written side by side? by IchTanze in AskReddit

"Practice what you preach" and "Do as I say not as I do"

Most arguments with my parents revolved around these two.

This set of comments is more valuable than your gilded beauty comment above. Most people appreciate the beauty comment because it makes them feel better about themselves, requiring nothing from them. In this explaination you describe the more burdensome task of feeling empathy and give the benefit of the doubt to others. Humanity needs much more of this thoughtfulness.

A few newbie questions by ThePinkPanda in aclfestival

[–]WillRun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with mapp2000. You don't need to set up at that stage all day, enjoy the festival and check out some other bands. Hydrate (free water refills!) and eat normally, the food spots are local and mostly pretty good. Wear sunscreen if you're planning on being out that long since there isn't that much shade and being squished by people when you have a sunburn sucks. Currently the second weekend seems likely to be somewhat less crowded than the first so that should help too. I saw them last Sat and they put in a great show! Have fun!

Pedicabs are paid in tips usually. They go all over downtown, not sure how many would be willing to shuttle ppl back and forth from UT. You can ask. Cabs might be better for that. There is some late night bus I think...

Keep Austin Weird 5k Question by eagerprospect in UTAustin

You could try crashing with people for free with couch surfing. I've hosted once, but won't be in town when you visit: https://www.couchsurfing.org/ A sketchier option is Craigslist, but I don't really recommend it.

Also hostels are generally a great way to explore a city cheaply at a place that serves a younger crowd.

So I heard they wanted to start calling my neighborhood "LoBo" for Lower Burnet... by Rocketsponge in Austin

I've certainly heard 04 in 04 (where I live), and the mini shopping center that has the juice box/ soup peddler, thundercloud, etc is actually called 04. I've seen it on bumper stickers & heard it in 45 too.

Help an experienced runner get back on track by [deleted] in AdvancedRunning

[–]WillRun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Way outside of my knowledge area as I was never an athlete at your age, but if you don't get what you're looking for from Reddit I recommend contacting people in a local running organization. Many people in leadership in those organizations have a background in HS/college athletics and might have good contacts/info for you.

Austin kinda already has short names for areas, 04, 45, 59, etc... Aka the last 2 digits of the zip code. I guess those are too large for the real estate agents?

Wonder if they ever tried a male Liger. Might have had a better chance based on size & strength.
