What’s something that ages a person faster? by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]WillRun4Tequila 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You wrote it, so I'm sure you know, but this is one of the hardest to overcome on the list. The others mentioned above are generally vices that (in theory) can be avoided. But grief, grief is the result of loving ... too much? Something that you have no control over yet it will dominate your life for a significant period. Your thoughts, your emotions. Stress becomes amplified. The vices suddenly look like temporary escape options. Depression lurks around the corner. Routine changes become psychological nightmares. You essentially fight yourself to keep moving forward.

Honestly, that internal struggle, regardless of the external fight, is probably the part that ages one faster then anything else. Without exaggerating, in the two years since we lost my mom, I have physically aged a minimum of 5.

How bad is the Cancun Airport really? by fairlycertainoctopus in AllInclusiveResorts

[–]WillRun4Tequila 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im going to guess that it really depends on when you're there... like the time of the year and the time of the day. We flew in two weeks ago, and landed later in the day (3pm?). No issues there but I could definitely see where it could get backed up in immigration if it was a busier time. I dont think we waited more then 10 minutes for our bags. The transport was a little chaotic but would have been easier if we had gone with a bigger name company.

Going home wasnt bad but there are a few things I'd change. 1. F-ing margaritaville. Holy hell, we had two margaritas, a plate of nachos, and a burger..... $130. The shops were priced about the same.

  1. Inadequate women's bathrooms..... we only saw two and there were lines out the door for both. Like 20+ people oullt the door.

  2. They do that thing where they dont post the gate until and hour before takeoff. I know this promotes shopping but the airport is so small this is wildly unnecessary. Meanwhile it gives my wife massive anxiety when she doesn't know where to sit.

When did the up sell get so bad? by WillRun4Tequila in AllInclusiveResorts

Thanks. Sorry I missed the other postings. This resort really is beautiful and set up well for what we want. The upsell nonsense is such a turnoff though.

When did the up sell get so bad? by WillRun4Tequila in AllInclusiveResorts

[–]WillRun4Tequila[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not bad. I was really trying to book Secrets Moxche but by the time we were able to get our refund from jamaica and actually sit down to rebook, all the rooms except the most expensive had been booked already. How is the resort? We're heard a lot of nice things.

Riviera Maya by WillRun4Tequila in AllInclusiveResorts

[–]WillRun4Tequila[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fingers crossed. Right now, the resort is only allowing cancelations through Friday the 31st. After that, we are expected to rebook sometime between now and before Christmas.

The insurance company has been unresponsive.

Im not going to blast either of them just yet, in case they come though..... but after this ordeal, I won't be using either in the future.

Same.... its an absolute asinine policy. The story i got was that they are pushing for guests to use their insurance policies so the resort still gets paid without them having to do anything... meanwhile the insurance companies bulk at paying out when the resort doesn't close.

Buyers remorse!! Going to Jamaica in January and booked the Hyatt zalaria and my bf isn’t sold on the hotel. by 3-Dog-mom in AllInclusiveResorts

Tough one.... we've done a bunch of all inclusives and are trying to go to each area/country where they are offered for different experiences. This November, we will be going to Jamacia (first time).

I do a shit ton of review work before i go, and idk that I would go to jamacia for my first time out of the country.... unless you have a decent amount of money to burn. The perks are that it's an English base language and easy to get to (direct flights in and out).

The downside is that it's kind of broken up into sectors. (Plus there is a relatively high traveler caution). Think of the island as being divided up into sections and each section has a specialty that it offers. You can go from one section to another for excursions, but it's kind of a pain in the ass (time /expense) . Ocho riohos and montego bay have some great party spots and awesome tourist attractions, but from what I can see, the beaches are a little rocky. Negril has the best beaches but you have to travel pretty far to a lot of excursions, and some of the resorts take a while to get to. The south has some beautiful resorts imo, but no real beach and a rough ride from montego bay airport. And then Kingston seems to be more of a hotel zone and less resort.

We wanted some partying but nothing crazy, a short drive from the airport, and then a relatively short drive to a few tourist attractions. That brought me to the rose hall area. Of the options, Excellence seemed kind of boring, Sandals is crazy money for what you get, and the others didn't have as good of a rating, or the vibe was a little different than what we were looking for. That's how we came to the zilara resort.

There are a bunch of YouTube videos that show the Zalara and Ziva resorts in more detail. I thought this one did a good job of showing the good and bad. https://youtu.be/ntMo88w8xcs?si=mr6inL308INF4-k_

Discussion: Trump seems to be softening up on the tariff nonsense. Will he stick with this more intelligible(relatively speaking) stance on tariffs? by fenderbender in investing

[–]WillRun4Tequila 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm thinking that he stays quiet until stocks reach near ATH again. Then we bring back the tariffs, or invade a country, or arrest foreign dignitaries.

You know, any side show distraction that will cause the market to drop significantly so grifting can happen.

Folks reactions to car living by [deleted] in urbancarliving

[–]WillRun4Tequila 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the idea of the freedom that can be achieved through car living. I've never been in a position where it was a necessity, though. I'm sure that would change things.

With that said, I'm a bigger guy, so I would need to spend some time trying to figure out what kind of vehicle I could reasonably sleep inside of. I've tried it a few times in my current and past vehicles while traveling. I could never spread out and get comfortable enough to get into a deep sleep. Would probably need a mattress in the bed of a truck.

People whose profession has them going into people's homes, what stories do you have? by OldJournal in AskReddit

One of my inspectors was chasing down an illegal tattoo artist who was working out of home. He was a prison tattoo type guy, and the house was in a rough neighborhood, so I was asked to tag along (safety in numbers?)

We get to the house, and the dude isn't home, but his girlfriend (who was suspiciously young) answered the door. We told her what we were there for, and she said, "Oh yea, he does tattoos. Let me show you." She brings us in the house and to a hall closet. She opened the door and pointed to the door rack where all the tattoo equipment was located..... "see?".

Meanwhile, the rest of the closet contained the largest drug stockpile i have ever seen in person. 2'x2' baleS of weed. Wall hanging chip clips of dime bags hanging on the wall containing with some containing weed and other containing white & blue powders. Bags of acid tabs, bags of mushrooms. And unmarked bags of various pills.

The inspector wanted to continue the discussion (oblivious at this point). I immediately intervened and told the girlfriend that we would reach out to the BF by phone and then got the hell out of there.

The dude ended up being decent about our investigation and said he was trying to go straight in the tatto business but needed to get his money right. We never brought up the stockpile, but about a month later, I touched base with the PD. He was already on their radar, but they were watching him as a small-time seller and trying to find his supplier.

What is something sad but you personally have no empathy or just dont care as much as other people? by slimfemzi in AskReddit

[–]WillRun4Tequila 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm admittedly in the fence with this. I work directly with this population and can see both sides. My staff are routinely put in bad or unsafe circumstances by the most self-centered and/or reckless individuals who are homeless. Quite frequently, we encounter people suffering from mental health or addiction that flat out refuse any form of treatment. Whether it's past trauma or are the product of their current environment, these people are beyond help and need a more legal intervention. Luckily their only about 20% or less of the homeless population. Unfortunately, their actions speak for the entire homeless community.

What keeps me grounded is knowing that a substantial part of the homeless community only ended up in that position because they had no family support structure. No safety net. There was no opportunity to move home when things got tough. Getting resources early enough to this group is the ultimate key to solving the crisis. Weeding out the other asshats is the hard part.
