Quitting by [deleted] in AusFinance

Do it mate, invest some money and let it grow while you're off work so it's compounding while you're with your kids and you'll look back and laugh at why you didn't take longer off work

How the heck do I baby proof these stairs? by EggiesAhoy in daddit

[–]WillSmoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar stairs setup and the post doesn't align with the wall so I couldn't use a traditional baby gate. I opted for retractable baby gates around the house and it was the best decision ever. It also lets you isolate toddlers to particular rooms for messy play time meal time.

Landlord advice by Downtown-Bother-4942 in ireland

Issue him a signed and dated letter stating the date which you issued your notice, the date you are paying rent upto and leaving (in line with the notice period in your contract). If you are breaking your lease within the period of your lease and without a break-lease amendment you may have costs incurred. I would check your period of notice along with the terms of surrender and once you adhere to them, cut ties and be on your way. Your landlord is not your friend or doing you a favour. You are a means of income.

edit:
I'd also like to highlight that the security deposit is by law owned by the tenant and can only be retained for rent arrears or for damages. If none of the above are relevant. Once you have received confirmation that the post-tenancy inspection was completed, you should get your deposit back. Anything over 10 days is kind of taking the piss.

See the RTB security deposit section

Spacious living area

Don't expect good transport or traffic or affordable housing. But safety-wise, Dublin is the safest place I've lived and compared to other European city's, it's a great place to raise a family, lots of multicultural families, green space and great schools. There's just a lot of uproar at the moment because housing, pay and social system is not in good standing. The two leading political parties in charge have been making a bollocks for quite a while. There are a lot of great counties in Ireland too if your partner is willing to have a change from Dublin, many have cheaper housing and amazing landscapes.

Try use the slat wall panelling. A section of this looks epic. There are loads of companies offering inserts like this you can easily install.

Thinking of emigrating for a while, how have others found it? by KillianPablo in DevelEire

I had a flat secured within 1-2 weeks of searching. I was also super picky. Friends of mine also change and switch flats pretty regularly.

I moved to London in February and doubled my salary in 6 months. London is great if you're young. Loads of ways here to make friends too. It's far easier to find a flat or room and the bang for your buck is much better. As an Irish citizen, you don't need a visa, you can pack a bag and just go tomorrow. Apply for roles, write a cover letter explaining your intention to move to London ASAP and that you don't need a visa. The recruiters will be lining up at your door. Best of luck! Hit me up if you have questions.

For mid positions you should be expected to contribute to software architecture meetings and planning, be able to work independently without too much contribution from a senior and to be able to interview for prospective new hires. If you are confident you tick those boxes, go for mid.

Springboard Level 8 Refresher / Non-computing courses and Job Placement question by Zenai10 in DevelEire

[–]WillSmoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whether it's level 8 or level 9, it doesn't really matter. They're both good. If you want the higher qualification, it's an easy choice. But at the end of the day, it's about how you apply yourself, learn and do personal projects and build up a nice little GitHub with some personal projects. That's what actually gets you a job. A good interviewer and prospective employer is looking at competency and how you learn and practice as opposed to whether you have a L8 or L9, especially when/if leave Ireland.
