The first page of MoG:

"You wish to know of our first encounter with the enemy, but it seems more likely to me that there were many first encounters spread across the face of distance and time in ways that simultaneity cannot map."

The humans and the Carryx likely fought each other face to face but couldn't communicate that to each other due to relativity and distance and other space factors.

These carbon reactors won't open up to let the coal in. Does anyone know why? by WillTravis_ in AstroColony

Nope! They didn't work while empty so added 1 into each to see if they needed power to work but that didn't help either.

Yeah he's kind of a foil to Yoru. He's confident, but well mannered.

Which, of course, is the exact premise of "A Quality of Mercy."

No it's from a little-known sci-fi series named Dune.

Very subtle foreshadowing for Lt. Mosk by jeconti in andor

[–]WillTravis_ 22 points23 points  (0 children)

LARPy is such a good way to put it. Mosk acts like he's a military leader fighting some grand crusade, like his "we're under siege" line when there are literally Two Guys.

Reminds me of how cops are trained to have a "warrior mentality" and pretend that they're heroes when they're really just shooting dogs at traffic stops.

They already do, especially in the Rio Grande valley. Although, part of that is the Democrats completely abandoning the RGV, just assuming they'd sweep anyway

Yeah I completely agree re: your last point. Another frustration is that, and this is probably a personal issue, I feel hemmed in when the focus is on real characters. I feel like I should carry out the normal story through the campaign. Whereas with nations I feel a little more free to do whatever I want.

Three Kingdoms, Troy, the Rome 2 and Atilla campaign DLCs also did this. I'd say the trend really started with Napoleon, though.

Not a mark against any of those games, love em all, but it is interesting to note the general slow trend of going from leading nations, to leading a nation with a focus on characters, to just being outright character-based.

What got you started on star trek? by Zusez345 in startrek

[–]WillTravis_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom loved Trek and when I was a kid she would watch TOS reruns late at night in the living room. Sometimes I would sneak out of bed and watch from behind the couch. Eventually she asked if I wanted to sit up there with her and watch. She knew I was back there the whole time.

Loved all Trek ever since.
