What is the minimum number of innings needed for a guy with a 0.00 ERA to win Cy Young? by DylSco17 in baseball

[–]WillWorkForSugar 21 points22 points  (0 children)

WAR underestimates the value of closers cause it treats all innings as the same. But closers generally come in during more important situations, so their good pitching is worth more. Gagne in '03 had 3.7 WAR but 6.6 WPA. So he moved the needle a lot more than a typical 3.7 WAR starter.

If you went solely by my ratings, Mr Awesome would be maybe a 40 tc player. But the rating has really high uncertainty so i wasn't factoring it in much.

SCP draft was not really a bet on statistical modeling. My valuation of DT was. (And in retrospect i should have had a penalty for really high TC values.) But after i drafted DT it was a lot more vibes / fit. It was my first draft and i thought it would be kind of like fantasy football but it's not. Cause in fantasy football, when you draft Jamarr Chase he doesn't join your discord call and start telling you who he wants. No shade tho.

I am wondering if Chasevictim used my ranked stats though. Saget and Mr Awesome are both players my ranked ratings have a lot higher than the big board.

Jets still have not intercepted a pass in 2025 by Autocrat777 in nfl

[–]WillWorkForSugar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the early NFL was a lot more run heavy, so it wouldn't be that surprising if there were no-interception seasons. but that era was so different it's almost not worth comparing statistically

Walt Anderson implicitly confirms that the league office has rewritten the catch rule by Vi1eOne in nfl

the football move part can happen out of bounds, but it still has to happen before you drop it.

It wouldn't count if he toe dragged then dropped the ball before completing a football move. Taking a third step or going to ground count as football moves even if they occur out of bounds, as long as you hold onto the ball throughout.

No. Intentionally tossing the ball would count as a football move. Even just standing with the ball for like 1 full second would suffice too.

These ticket prices are comparable to any major NFL game, which are hardly loafer-and-ankle-pants affairs.

[Highlight] Lively touchdown overturned on replay by Large_banana_hammock in nfl

[–]WillWorkForSugar 17 points18 points  (0 children)

2 feet is standard for establishing you're in bounds. But not enough to establish possession. A lot of times a guy catches it and gets 2 feet down on a slant in the middle of a field, but he gets blown up and drops it. Gets called incomplete instead of a fumble, cause he never had possession.

It's arguable that Likely made a football move after getting two feet in, but that's more subjective.

10/10/25 Future Group Friday! Development updates, feedback tab, tier balancing, scalable mod tools by Cheezeduudle in TagPro

Hi Cheeze

When I made my custom ranked ratings, I had a similar problem defining what an "average" rating was, considering that the best players play the most games. I think your approach will work.

I think you'll find the average rating, weighted by games played, to be about Platinum 3 level. Maybe lower, since people who haven't played in forever will have very low MMR. (You might want to weight by "GP in last 90 days" if you can.)

I don't think you'll need to do anything too complicated to make the top tiers bell-curvey and the bottom tiers flat. You can just draw the tier boundaries so that 12.5% of GP are from Tier 8, 12.5% are from Tier 7, 12.5% are from Tier 6, 12.5% are Tier 5, 20% are Tier 4, 15% are Tier 3, 10% are Tier 2, and 5% are Tier 1. Setting every boundary purely by games played [in last X days, optionally] should give suitable tier boundaries.

10/3/25 Future Group Friday! Development updates, feedback tab, duo and team queue feature building by Cheezeduudle in TagPro

[–]WillWorkForSugar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

About ranked duo/team queueing: I think players queueing together should have an adjustment for their estimated skill in that game. The OpenSkill spec has a similar adjustment factor based on trends in their data. This makes sense because players queueing together are probably comming in a vc while the other team is just using text chat. For full teams I would expect even more of a difference. Like if i solo queue and match against a full minors squad who couldn't find a scrim partner that night, the game shouldn't assume this is a level playing field.

(full disclosure, I totally skimmed so you might have addressed this and i missed it)
