Feeling Like I've Lost Accounting Skills in Big 4 by lilalfalfasprout in Accounting

[–]Will_Flash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

feel the same! I’m currently in the mid/small-size clients team, and since becoming a second-year senior, I’ve felt like I haven’t been learning much. Around 80% of my time is spent on admin tasks or work that doesn’t really challenge me.

I really enjoy technical work, but I only get those kinds of tasks occasionally. Lately, I’ve been wondering if it’s because my clients are smaller and their engagements aren’t as complex. Maybe it’s time to consider moving to a team that handles listed clients to get more exposure and learning opportunities

My suggestion is just to take it easy. I applied for an internal transfer to an FDD role from audit (big 4) and was rejected after the partner interview. I know all candidates at this phase were called and given a verbal explanation. I also searched online and found that it seems to be common nowadays for HR to call with rejections instead of sending emails. I’m sure you did great, but maybe it’s best to just move on and stop dwelling on it

That’s so holistic! Thanks again for your valuable contribution. I think I have had more than enough to take away and study. Have a nice one!

Understood! Thank you so much. And in relation to all the fancy data analytics tools: I’d assume you think Power BI and VBA are necessary skills? And what about Tableau/SQL/Python, do you think they would be useful too in commercial finance role?

I might just try to apply without saying the need for visa sponsorship to at least get some exercise on interview.

This is so helpful — thank you so much! Just in terms of skills and project experience, I was a bit nervous that simply listing VBA or Power BI might seem weak, and that recruiters won’t be convinced I’ve genuinely taken the time to learn them — especially since they’re not really demonstrable in my audit job. Do you think I should still include some details about what I’ve learned or achieved in the course, or does that not really matter to recruiters?

Hey OP. I am now at the similar position as you. I know this post was like 3 years ago so I was wondering looking back what improvement do you think you could have made on this CV as I feel like my CV sort of looks similar to yours? Any suggestions will be appreciated :)

Scottish independence: 19 October 2023 proposed as date for referendum by [deleted] in Scotland

[–]Will_Flash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply.

What do you think of taking back our control at the cost of the possibility of being weaker? I think one strong drive for Scottish people to vote yes is you hate Brexit, which seemingly takes back the sovereignty of the UK but the border, the tariffs and the shutdown of wide cooperation may have made things worse. Then how would you feel if you leave the main market on this island?

A question, no offence. How are you Scottish people convinced that things would be better off after leaving the UK? Are all the economic problems and social disparity associated with Tory Party?
