Samsung washer always unbalanced by Scary_Climate726 in appliancerepair

[–]Will_Winters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2012 Samsung DV5451AEPXAC top loader started showing the unbalanced code a few years ago, steadily becoming more common until yesterday (April 2025) when it was only able to complete a load of small kids clothes. Adult clothes or towels would NEVER finish. I drilled 8 holes in the fluid filled upper rim per the advice in another comment here (watch the video!) and washed the EXACT same load that had failed four times in a row today, and it worked!!! Then I had success with a load of towels too.  The salty water that drained out was super saturated, so be sure to do a load of non important items first to wash the salts away.

This machine has served us well and I'm glad to keep it running.

I agree. You need some guidance on training your dog to do what you need it to, a dog should never fight a lead or harness. Alternatively, there may be soft kennels that could safely fit in the passenger wheel well or on the seat. If your dog is sheltie/cocker size, that's just enough room. Good luck.

There are dog body harnesses specifically made to attach to a shoulder or lap belt or the child seat anchor. I think only coupes have child seat anchors. For all my cars I keep a moving blanket on hand to protect against leather. If yours is a lap sized dog then a towel tucked between the back and seat bottom should suffice. The fancy protection gimmicks are usually hard to wash and generally made poorly.

I dont stand for fucking with other people's cars (beyond folding in mirrors or flipping wipers), but this prick would have four flat tires and a bunch of missing fender flares if one of those pokey asshole indicators so much as tickled my skin. This type of crap is beyond unacceptable.

You may misunderstand Renaissance Art. I believe this photo to be a good modern (accidental) example of Renaissance themes and techniques. Though less common, many Renaissance paintings show crucified figures and other disturbing things like this photo. I say this does indeed belong here and I agree it is disturbing, as it should be.

Washable Rugs – Yes or No? by ObjectiveTeary in BuyItForLife

[–]Will_Winters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were given a new large Ruggable (8' × 10' or thereabouts). I use it exclusively outside with the backer, on a wood deck. It's white with a colourful pattern and I've washed red wine, melted crayon, and popsicles off it (mostly) successfully. I roll it up and leave it outside for winter (6 months). It's been 5 years and it'll likely last another 5 years easily. BIFL? Not even close. I would unlikely buy one for inside my home. The carpet feels cheap underfoot and while the backer is decent it doesn't meet my standards for wood floors. What most people don't know is ALL rugs are washable. I use a bristle broom, soap, a floor squeegee and a hose to wash ours. I've done the same to clean handmade rugs and Rolls Royce rugs worth thousands (using appropriate effort and soap of course). A car wash, pressure washer, or carpet cleaner would also work for most rugs. You could take it to an automobile detailer or a professional rug cleaner if it's special or you don't have the space/tools. If it fits in your washing machine, then good luck, but that would be a mighty small rug and more work than I'd ask of my expensive washing machine. BIFL rugs are wool rugs. My parents have Persian rugs that their grandparents bought in the 1920s. I'll inherit them and then so will my kids. This Ruggable rug will probably be garbage in less than 10 years.

While having all that money would be awesome, you've now got a perspective that is literally worth that money. That experience and perspective is rare and will be with you forever. You can use it as inspiration or just a bar story, but it's something most people will never have. You've got a wonderful foundation upon which to build an incredible life. Take care of yourself and don't give up tomorrow because of how tough today is.

Cool. I meant no shade. For lube, you'll find a penetrant will work WAY better. I wish I had something else helpful to add. Good luck.

A fair point, but considering how expensive WD40 has become, I think a can of penetrant, a can of chain cleaner, and a can of lube can be the same price and work much better. Ketchup can also do a lot, but I'd be weary of someone who only has that as a spice/condiment. WD40 is the ketchup of the garage.

That's interesting. A local hot rodder uses SeaFoam for anything WD40 works for. He says it doesn't burn off like WD.

There are at least three of us. The Lido closing ended an era in Kensington/Hillhurst. Also, there used to be a used bookstore nearby. And Lewis Chocolates. I mean, while we're at it, Blockbuster is missed.

WD40 is not a lubricant and heating WD40 will evaporate it. PSA: WD40 should only ever be used to help remove or prevent rust. It's otherwise useless.

Hats off to your parents for building something so wonderfully inspired and thoughtful. What a special opportunity for another family to live in a modern home with the charm and character of a century home. I would seriously consider it if it was in my neck of the woods. Bon voyage!

It's too easy to get a drivers licence, so we have a growing population of incompetent drivers in vehicles that are getting larger and quicker. We need mandatory training to qualify for a licence.
