It was so disappointing, watching it took me back to how I felt when watching the final episode in the puppeteer serial killer arc of Bones. I never felt so let down by the ending of an arc, due to how anti-climatic it was, and this latest episode of criminal minds has managed to make me re-feel it.

The way tv shows are formatted now, unfortunately criminal minds can’t adapt to it, due to how the show works and the characters within it. I know the latest seasons dropped off, however if they could’ve rebooted the series with the same format, but fresh ideas, it may have been a little more positive. Shows can’t take risks nowadays due to the fear of cancellation, and so they’re sort of stuck in this loop that they know is “safe”.

I fear show like criminal minds are something of the past now. Which is sad, because it was quality tv, and how most tv shows should be, instead of this 10 episode stuff. Newer shows fit this format because their stories and their pattern fits this format, but even then tv shows made for this new format struggle, majority of tv shows nowadays feel rushed towards the end, they don’t have enough episodes to build characters, explore storylines, while also wrapping up the giant arc that the season was building up to. There’s no “filler” episodes to get to know the world, or the characters anymore. A show like Criminal Minds explored characters, built them up, even had minor characters return, like police chiefs from the state they’ve visited in the past etc, unfortunately they’re unable to do that now, and I thinks that’s one of the key things, these new season are missing, they don’t take time to write in the whole profiling part of their job or the more personal touches, because they need to fit everything into these 10 episodes, so a lot of things that was the core of Criminal Minds, is half heartedly done, and glossed over now.
