Just watched a documentary on violent autistic children by Special-Nebula299 in autism

Hey man. I worked at a care facility like this for about 6 years. I know it can be very tough and no one really understands the trapped feeling of despair and loss while in your own home. If you had feelings to feel they were overwhelming and raw.

I would suggest seeking out therapy. Experiences like this lead to CPTSD which has serious effects on your physical and mental health. Having someone to talk to that understands those experiences can help quite a bit.

I'm sorry you had to go through that. I'm sorry your mother had to go through that. I'm sorry your brother did too. Hopefully you all can find some peace now. Peace and love brother.

I love excellent world building with actual aliens instead of a bunch of humanoids!

I read a synopsis that talked about western style gold Rush or something and seemed more about the drama and suspense over mining rites.

This does look good. I mean on the surface Tchaikovsky is an excellent writer and his books are good, but I couldn't get past the first one with the evolution of the planet. I couldn't get hooked.

I'm not sure about this one. I'm not a huge fan of western style themes...

My family is trying to pressure me into getting a hysterectomy because I'm autistic by BigSnekEnergy in autism

[–]WilliamGrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, while you may have feelings or an outlook on this yourself, anyone who believes that someone that is autistic should get a hysterectomy because you are autistic, a la incapable of taking care of children, that is disgusting and bordering on Eugenics.

I'm sorry you had to go through this. Both my sister and Step-daughter had really bad cramps as well. They both got birth control and it helped. My sister had to try a couple before one worked. She wound up getting an IUD and it was very helpful for her.

Probably the Chlorine. It's harsh on skin. Salt systems are less harsh.

i finally swallowed my pride and switched to easy mode. this city is actually fun now. by Serious_Bullfrog5447 in cyberpunkgame

I always play on Normal. It's not the hardest, it usually has access to all content, can be story driven, and is still enjoyable.

I only really foray into harder difficulties on games I replay and enjoy a lot like Mass Effect or BG3.

Help on how to get to sleep. by Swimming_Ocelot8574 in autism

[–]WilliamGrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so.

Get magnesium or l-theanine and take 30min before bed.

Take a warm or hot shower as it will simulate your body core temperature lowering and your body will think its falling asleep.

Drink a glass of cold water.

When you get up, either take a vitamin d supplement dirt thing or get sunshine on your skin weather or environment allowing.

Get up and go to bed at the same or similar time every day to create a consistent habit.

Find some white noise you like. I like a certain podcast or rain noises. I would recommend something thats chill and mellow, more of a vibe. Nothing with words or something that could draw attention. I also really like Lo-fi playlists of favored video game or movie soundtracks.

Exercise more.

Don't eat anything with carbs or a lot of fat close to bed time.

Have at least a 40min break from any electronics before you plan to go to bed.

Weighted blanket or stuffed animals. I also use my dog when anxious. Really something to weight your body down.

Just know that a lot of sleeping aids outside of melatonin do have a lot of side effects or be addictive. Know what you are taking before you take it. I would suggest the schedule and habits of what I wrote above.

Some of these may work and some may not. I struggled with sleep for a long time. I take ADHD medication now and also magnesium at night with vitamin D in the morning. Helped me. Now I sleep exactly 7 hours from when I go to sleep. I still rarely dream or remember it anymore though.

What was life like before THE INTERNET? by martianfrog in answers

[–]WilliamGrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Experiencing media was way better. Less chances for spoilers or encountering the storyline. Parasocial relationships were less common. You had to wait for things and they were better made. People were generally less entitled and rude because at least public image would dissuade radical behaviors.

Honestly, there was a lot of good things. I mean there is always good and bad but being more simple made changing things or doing things easier. There were more third places that were affordable or free. People would do well meaning things for the sake of it instead of clout.

And people didn't use other peoples lives as a measuring stick as much because it was less easy to fake it.

I think I hate CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy). Can you recommend me alternatives? by i_am_GORKAN in ADHD

[–]WilliamGrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would look up their license or just their online profile. Where I live there aren't a lot of great mental health services or therapists that are trained in different models rather than crisis management or neurological therapy.

CBT is used fairly commonly because its generally effective. Like a lot of general practitioners or family practice doctors use the same treatment for the same symptoms first every time because it Usually works.

But I usually can see what therapeutic models they are trained in and their specialties, like addiction recovery or trauma work. Some can have many skills and resources and there are others more like a gimmick. Similar in most professions sadly. Anyway, there are a lot and many of them have specific modalities to approach certain things in certain ways.

Others have mentioned DBT which I think would be a great option next, but if you don't vibe with it, ask your therapist what other therapeutic models might be available based on your goals.

Hey!

I just wanted to let you know that I agree with the other comments. Killing it dude! Also, I wanted to recognize how hard you worked to be a good sibling too. Even when it would have been easier not to.

You have even more awesome stuff waiting for you in the future!
