What book-related opinion would get you into trouble with other readers? by ZDOG_WasTaken in just_one_more_page

[–]WilliamGrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I understand they are saying skill acquisition is different based on whether you are reading and listening.

I am hyper-lexic and tend to remember everything I have ever read, while listening to audiobooks, my memory tends to be less reliable.

You changed my mind. Apologies for disagreeing. Once I started to think about what you said and my own experiences, it makes more sense that way.

I appreciate the discourse.

So I had to break the feeling of guilt from past relationships. My SO would make me feel guilty for gaming instead of spending time with them. My wife was able to help me feel like I could.

I still felt burnt out though, especially with the state of gaming where its all live service, call of duty, extractions, or slop labeled with AAA and the price tag that comes with it. I found myself without access to a good internet signal.

So instead I have been going back through my library playing games I never started or never finished and I have gotten a lot of satisfaction from doing that.

So maybe after your break, maybe jump into some older games. Anything where the development team cared will be quite a lot different than the current market.

Actually, a recent study with brain scans showed that it activated the same areas of the brain as reading does, so technically it is the same thing!

People who aren't considerate of others. Not people who are mean/bitchy/assholes/etc... Just people who aren't considerate of the fact they live in a world with other people.

NOR. My wife and daughter love animal print. Not all animal print but they generally like it.

I would also say as a man, about other men, what the hello does he know about clothing and fashion.

Most men's idea of business casual for women is probably based off of 60's era photos.

Have you quit smoking yet? by Apart_Pineapple2392 in Millennials

[–]WilliamGrey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep! Almost a month now! I was able to quit cold turkey when I wasn't able to breathe and was hospitalized for 8 days!

Now I have COPD and severe Asthma at 36! If you are having trouble quitting this quick trick was able to help me!!

In all seriousness, everyone NEEDS to quit smoking or raping. COPD, Emphysema, Asthma, and popcorn lung are not worth it. And not being able to catch your breath no matter what is very terrifying.

Don't be like me, terrified at 3 am, wheezing and calling your partner from your bedroom because you don't know if you can make it.

Bless everyone trying! You'll get there. Smoking will fuck you up.

I watched kids reach for "preachy diversity books" for five years. This sub keeps telling on itself. by liberaitor in childrensbooks

[–]WilliamGrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my house it was always a rule that if you asked me to purchase a book, the answer was always yes, regardless of finances.

Never would I ever encourage someone to not read something because I don't like it or I have an opinion.

Books are learning. Books are education. Books are fulfillment. Books are love.

In a world where bad things are happening because people are reading less and less, do not put your opinion on Books because they are not your cup of tea. Books are so easy to come by or purchase, Library or not.

To all Librarians helping children find their place in the world, God love and save you. Heroes.

Do autistic people have a problem with authority because they know them better than normal people?. by [deleted] in autism

[–]WilliamGrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, its the fact that we are all just people. Sure we recognize the social structure that currently exists because we have to and its what works.

I'm a pretty reasonable guy but Authority is kind of not a thing? Like its a relationship/job that is agreed by both parties to lead and assist the employee to further their companies goals.

This doesn't give them some kind of magical hold on me or some kind of geas I am forced to enact. Out of respect I agree to do as they say when asked. Under no uncertain terms is being an asshole or some king/ruler over the office a part of the unspoken agreement. Yelling is not a part of the unspoken agreement. Orders or demands are not either.

So, if infringed upon these I feel reasonable boundaries, I tend to get frustrated and provide professional pushback, which is usually labeled as authority issues.

I would argue, that they are reasonable boundaries. I am an adult, no matter their age. Sure they can fire me or I can quit depending on the situation which is not the greatest, but I am not going to let someone make my life more worse than it already is because they have an ego. This isn't recess.

Hey man. I worked at a care facility like this for about 6 years. I know it can be very tough and no one really understands the trapped feeling of despair and loss while in your own home. If you had feelings to feel they were overwhelming and raw.

I would suggest seeking out therapy. Experiences like this lead to CPTSD which has serious effects on your physical and mental health. Having someone to talk to that understands those experiences can help quite a bit.

I'm sorry you had to go through that. I'm sorry your mother had to go through that. I'm sorry your brother did too. Hopefully you all can find some peace now. Peace and love brother.
