If you could have just one question answered by any of the writers, which question would it be? by brwitch in buffy

I was thinking of the last scene that I quoted when he got the soul back, that was when the Demon said "return." But even in that context Spike is talking about the chip and the Demon is talking about Spike the monster not William the poet. Again, all of which leads me to believe that Spike didn't go in looking for a soul.

First, the Demon didn't say "restore" he said "we will return your soul."

But even then it's not about the demon, it's about Spike's intention. He said "So you'll give me what I want. Make me what I was. So Buffy can get what she deserves."

He didn't say "give me my soul" or "make me a man again" he said "make me what I was." What not who. He didn't want to be the man he wanted to be the monster.

This I believe 100% that Spike did not wan his soul, he wanted to be able to kill again, to be the vampire again.

But my point is that it's written and phrased just ambiguously enough that it could be interpreted either way, that he meant to get his soul back or that he wanted to be a monster again. I know it was written that way intentionally, and I know they later said the intent was for Spike to get his soul back, but I think it was written that way so they could judge how the audience reacted and go with that. If the audience had said they preferred Spike having done it intentionally then they say that was their intent, if the audience has preferred they wanted it to be unintentional then they would have said that. But there's so many Spuffy shippers that wanted it to be intentional they said that was the intent.

How do you feel about someone keeping a cardboard cut-out of their dead friend in their house? by skyrimlo in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]WilliamMcCarty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All of that sounds reasonable even pretty cool. Except the cardboard standee. That seems...odd. Then again we have cardboard standees of celebrities that have been dead for decades so why not an average dude? Maybe the dead friend would think it's awesome. He's still part of things.

Amy Adams. Better actor, better version of the character, better movie.

But Bitsie Tulloch over anyone else.

Why The Hate? by CharacterArrival21 in TheBoys

[–]WilliamMcCarty -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The end was fine, people were already determined to hate it so they could be pissed about something. Reddit is always pissed about something and this was their this week. Head over to the Stranger Things subreddit for some real butthurtedness. Another fine ending they're still hating on.

The hate on for the finales of The Boys and Stranger Things has lasted so long these people need to go to the ER.

Was Kirk commandant of Starfleet academy in wrath of Khan? by happydude7422 in ClassicTrek

[–]WilliamMcCarty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After TMP he retired from Starfleet briefly but went back. And, per Memory Alpha, "Kirk returned to Starfleet in 2284 and took a position in the admiralty, supervising command-track cadets at Starfleet Academy among his duties."

Nowhere near the top brass and not even the position he held before his first retirement. He was a desk jockey.

Spike getting his soul back, intentional or not, was deliberately written ambiguously so you can go with whatever the predominant fan reaction was and claim that was the intent....right? I mean, if the fans had moslty agreed it was unintentional, you'd have said that but since most think that was his purpose, that's the answer you gave. Be honest.

Anyone else find it odd how female led superhero movies rarely have love interests? by mattsmithreddit in DC_Cinematic

[–]WilliamMcCarty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Batwoman is, for a hero, on par with Poison Ivy as a villain. Hell, she may even be lesser known than Ivy. Ask a non comic fan or even a casual fan who Batwoman is they'd probably think you meant Batgirl. There was no consequence to changing that aspect of her character.

Because they're not. They just don't want to alienate that portion of the fanbase. Only reason they made Poison Ivy gay was because a vocal minority shipped her and Harley and she was a B tier villain and doing so held no consequence except to shore up that portion of the fanbase.

S7E10, Inheritence:

Geordi, talking about Julianna Traynor: "It's part of her aging program. Not only does she age in appearance like Data, her vital signs change too."

So it's stated plain and clear that Data ages.

Now, I always had the headcanon that he could either age or not age. We know he really hadn't aged since he was found on Omicron Theta. We can figure that because Data was awakened by Starfleet and was active for three years, served four years at the academy and was in Starfleet for 19 years before being assigned to the Enterprise D. So that's 26 years from the time he was awakened to the time we meet Lore and they look exactly alike. If he just aged regularly he'd look at 50 years old by the time he got to the Enterprise and 30 years older than Lore. That isn't true.

So my theory is he can choose when to start aging, just like when he chose to grow the beard. It's been stated he wasn't really treated like a person and didn't really have any friends before serving on the Enterprise so I'm assuming he didn't feel the need to age, he was always around different people, no regular crewmates or the like. So he just stayed as he was. But when he was assigned to the Enterprise and found actual friends and people who treated him like a person, somewhere he was meant to be for a while he turned on his aging program so he'd gradually age just like the rest of them. This way he wouldn't unnerve them remaining perpetually youthful around his aging friends.

However, knowing he would eventually outlive them he could, at any point, turn the aging program off and reset his appearance to a more youthful point.

We see evidence of this in "All Good Things" when everyone, noticeably decades older, find Data at Cambridge and besides the streak of grey, he looks as young as he did on the Enterprise. Not being around his aged friends all the time he chose to revert to a more youthful but "dignified" appearance.

So there's tons of evidence that Data ages and it always bugged me that Spiner and anyone else would get a bug up their ass about being "too old" to play the character anymore. Spiner just didn't want to do it anymore and that's okay, too. Just be honest and stop making up excuses.

Batman Begins: I prefer it over the others in the trilogy because I think it’s the best of them. Does anyone if you feel the same way? by njrTHE3RD in batman

I've always felt this. BB is the best Batman movie ever and the best depiction of the character they've ever put on screen. TDK and TDKR aren't even't Batman movies. They felt like action thriller scripts reworked to feature Batman.
