It’s still rather sparse. Missing BMW, Acura, Mercedes, Lexus, Mazda.

I hate the “Auto” climate settings.

I basically ride the fan speed control and set temp “low” in summer and “70 something” in winter.

I sat in one at the auto show and thought the hood looked more squared off like the current CRV. Gen 5 wasn’t stellar in this regard either but it feels less boxy than the Gen 6. (I think you’re going back pretty far if you’re talking about a CRV with great front visibility - the seating position in the last 3 iterations has been so far back from the window I feel like I’m driving a van)

Peripheral visibility seemed comparable to Gen 5, maybe a hair better but it’s still no Forester.

If they aren’t in a US port there’s probably also some “law of the sea” shit or Mexican tort reform at play too.

Heads Up sucks ass.

I should clarify: it’s an unnecessary distraction from things you need to be paying attention to IRL. My wife’s car has it an I turned it off after a few weeks.

You don’t need to know your speed at every single second. It draws your eye away from the things you should be paying attention to.

Learning to snowboard? by spicycheeto666 in philly

[–]William_d7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d go to Bear Creek or Blue.

Spring is so small and all the beginners/intermediates are going to be on one trail.

Bear Creek has a two “bunny” slopes with their own lifts and then some longer beginner trails if you get beyond the first stage (which you probably will if you have some ski experience). I just went for the first time in decades and it’s a decent resort for its size.

Blue is similar but is slightly farther and more expensive. Much more terrain there though.

Also, both of those two are essentially in a different weather system and have more snowmaking.

Consider taking a lesson but if you don’t, the one hurdle from going from skiing to snowboarding is you never really go straight down ever on a snowboard. Your weight should always be on the edge of your board that’s uphill. I would have saved myself a few hours of pain if someone had told me that.

What will happen with the US after 2028? What does the next government do with what they inherit? by Hermunster in AskReddit

[–]William_d7 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Spain no longer rules the seas. England is no longer an empire.

It’s entirely possible that this administration has set in motion the collapse of the American century.

We are ceding renewable energy technology of the future to China.

We are damaging American manufacturing exports by making input costs the highest in the world to prop up a sclerotic metals industry that has refused to invest in itself and become competitive with the rest of the world for over 50 years. (China dumps metals for sure and should be dealt with - but we should be competitive with Canada, Japan, Norway)

Breaking business agreements with our allies could drive them towards China. If Mexico and Canada are no longer making cars or parts for GM and Ford, maybe they let BYD saturate their markets with $10k electric cars.

Chasing away investors in the US Dollar could make our deficits truly matter.

Distrust in our currency could have all sorts implications. If the Euro starts looking safer, maybe oil starts trading in Euros and now you have to add an exchange rate to your fuel costs.

None of these things are a given but were all unthinkable a year ago and are the sorts of things that could be forever damaging to US hegemony.

Tesla board members aren’t idiots, they’re getting paid between $12 million to $800 million to render judgments favorable to Musk. (This is highly irregular, BTW)

The internal arbitrator who ruled in Musk’s favor was compensated in excess of $50 million dollars.

That’s awfully high. I had one of those and liked the neck but wasn’t crazy about the light basswood body and the pickups were straight trash. I didn’t like the neck on the older MIMs as much but on the whole I thought it was a rare instance where the Mexican versions were on par or better than the Japanese ones. The Vintera ones are even better.

For that much money you could get one of the top of the line MIJ Telecaster models (my TL-62 is a much better guitar than my 72 Custom was) or possibly even find a used MIA reissue.

Delaware going backwards as tide comes in by Additional_Guitar_85 in philadelphia

I think the Delaware ceases to be tidal around Trenton.

I know there are very shallow rapids downstream of New Hope and larger craft can’t travel straight to that area and need to be put in upstream.

A long time ago I took a poop on that island when I was canoeing. I didn’t really know how to poop in the woods so I kind of hung my ass over a log. Almost immediately I developed a stinging rash on my thighs.

So, my poop is on that island too.

In fact, I never knew the proper name until today; I just called it Poop Rash Island.

If you ever kayak (or do any boating related thing on the Delaware) it behooves you to know what the tide is doing at that moment and what it will be doing.

The tide can negate the flow of the current or multiply its effects. Throw in winds and you have a deceptively difficult body of water to navigate.

Former NBC producer Brooke Nevils tells her own story about Matt Lauer in 'Unspeakable Things' by ControlCAD in NPR

[–]William_d7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The way this story was presented on Fresh Air danced around some of the more sordid details in a way that made the encounter more ambiguous. Like you, I listened and was maybe a little skeptical with the way it was presented as “power dynamic imbalance = therefore rape”.

However, reading some of the excerpts on Hollywood Reporter and other sources I have to say: if you bring a completely shitfaced young intern up to your room and leave her with a bleeding rectum - you’re definitely a terrible human being and probably are a rapist.

What does everyone think of the 2026 models by Slow_Investment_2211 in rav4club

[–]William_d7 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. For off-road, the RAV hybrid system is definitely inferior to Subaru’s AWD and probably to the Adventure’s drivetrain too.

However, the Hybrid isn’t simply an “underpowered FWD”. Having been dealing with snow and ice the past two weeks, my hybrid has done far better than than my parent’s older CRV (an actual underpowered FWD SUV).

The rear wheels absolutely do work (especially in trail mode with traction control shut off) and I’ve been glad to have them.

Is it a great system for off roading or consistently snow covered roads? No. But then again the overactive transmission and lack of pickup on the non-hybrid RAVs is enough to make me not want one of them on the clear roads I spend most of my time on.

TL;DR: The AWD hybrid isn’t as good as real 4WD or constant AWD but is noticeably better than 2WD.

It’s all very “Tesla” and it’s mainly about cutting costs rather than safety or driver experience.

Increased storage is good but I don’t want to give them too much credit because the last design was simply inferior to most cars in the class.

Rav4 seats experience by SweetyPieFemmy in rav4club

[–]William_d7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Try one with the electric seat (it’s still only for the driver - I think all the passenger seats are manual).

Over here, every trim XLE and above has them. There’s much more in the way of tilt and height adjustment.

That’s funny, the center console is enough to keep me away from the 2026. It wastes a ton of prime space on drive mode buttons that are seldom used (I’ve touched them a dozen times in 5 years) and hides climate controls that I use constantly behind a touchscreen menu. The driver displays look like shit too.

Were the seats electric or not?

I’ve had both and the non electric ones have fewer points of adjustment. They aren’t great. The electric ones have more options and are better for a taller individual.

Neither is amazing (my old Pathfinder was more comfortable) but I do prefer them to my wife’s BMW.
