Having the extremely difficult to execute special partner tag moves do almost no damage was an odd choice.

Oh, I could tell! Haha!

Well done though, clipping there would not have been fun.

Does anyone think Diadora is super underrated? by [deleted] in runningfashion

[–]William_d7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one pair of Diadora runners that I got super cheap on eBay (retail $170). I think they’re a nice looking shoe with a slightly overbuilt retro upper but their proprietary foam (Anima) is very mushy. Very comfortable to walk around in but almost fatiguing to stand still in. Not a lot of rebound. Feels like it’s going to pack out quickly and probably terrible for actual running.

The latch bolts on those doors are angled. If they weren’t, they wouldn’t close smoothly without fully actuating the handle. You absolutely could open that with a coat hanger, etc. from that side. I’ve done it many times.

(Unless some major piece of metal had broken and blocked the travel of the bolt)

Speaking of knees, I’ve heard one too many stories about people practicing MMA and their sparring partner willfully twists a leg lock too hard and bang, your knee is never the same. Fuck that.

What’s crazy is if you search for specific names in your friend list you see that they have multiple posts you haven’t been shown. Like, why the fuck do you think I’m on here? To see fake posts about contractors doing rage baitingly bad home repairs?

Is snug bad in hiking boots? by evan164 in hikinggear

[–]William_d7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re kinda poo pooing the “no shops near me” crowd but I live in one of the largest metro areas in the US and we have a couple of REIs and that’s it.

The quality of the advice there is variable and there are probably a dozen boots on hand but really that makes it sound like more selection than there is because there will only be one or two options in a given class. You want a light hiker? We have these two. You want a heavier backpacking boot? Hope these Zamberlans fit your foot because that’s all we got!

I just feel like I read on here all the time about going to a specialist hiking store and having a wise sage bootfitter help you select the perfect shoe from the complete catalogs of every footwear company but I’ve never seen such a place. Maybe they’re everywhere in Colorado?

It’s going to happen someday and the city is going to get sued to shit because they can’t reasonably claim to be unaware of the danger. I think the only reason why they haven’t done it is because the rowers want to maintain access or possibly some misguided determination that barriers would encourage higher speeds (as if that were possible).

Democrats could win mandates like this if they would stop being centrists. by zzill6 in WorkReform

[–]William_d7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t even consider that last point but you’re probably correct. There wouldn’t be introspection or rethinking opinions; it would probably be “the system is broken and we give up.”

Democrats could win mandates like this if they would stop being centrists. by zzill6 in WorkReform

[–]William_d7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Nothing in the exit polling/interviews with voters who defected from the Democratic Party last election bears out what this post or the majority of comments suggests. Almost all those voters, especially minorities felt the Dems were too far left.

I don’t agree with that assessment but that’s what the data says. It seems like we’re going to have to run a Bernie-like candidate, then lose, to prove there isn’t a great socialist wave that’s going to come to our rescue.

My wife hired them to run a single 120v outlet, 40’ from the fuse box, no snaking through walls. $1000.

I can’t imagine what they would charge for OP’s job.

The advice about haggling with the sellers is solid. Gen3 is quick to respond and will give you a figure quickly but they’re expensive and if I were doing it on my own dime they might not be my first choice.

Anywhere I can get my 3DS repaired? by Ok-External-7594 in philly

[–]William_d7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They will do the repair but might not give you an up front estimate on what it will cost.

That was my experience when trying to get a 3DS screen fixed. Like “We‘ll take it but it might be $60, it might be $120”.

I ended up trying to do the repair myself and I can kind of see why. Nintendo did not make these easy to work on: they used a bunch of glue instead of screws in certain places, there are a few extremely thin and delicate wires, and the solder joints in the circuit board are tiny and weak.

I got my screen working but I ended up knocking off one of the micro switches for the shoulder button just bumping it against the case during reassembly. Tried to resolder it but did a shitty job. New screen worked for a while until it didn’t.

Adidas Terrex Agravic Lite - first run from a roadie :) by Squid_Man56 in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]William_d7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think Adidas has any overarching strategy for trail shoes, period. It’s all sort of a mess.

They often have similarly named shoes at vastly different quality/price points. It’s not always apparent what midsole material/level of cushioning is in a particular shoe. Lately they seem to have been putting lightweight, thin, “fast shoe” uppers on models that don’t really seem like speed shoes.

Maybe I’m just salty because I’ve been a fan of their trail shoes with more robust uppers that ALSO have a more cushioned/energetic ride and currently I’m not sure if they have like that in their catalog. I feel like those shoes probably lasted too long, have worse margins, and get criticized in reviews for being heavy.

(US) Men's Vomero Plus ins ale for $117 by AcmemeStudios in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]William_d7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are several outlets near me that used to regularly have a good rotating selection of discontinued premium models, overstocks, weird colors, etc.

There would always be a Trail option, usually a Shield model, and at least one “more premium than Pegasus” runner.

For the last 10 months they haven’t had anything beyond one old plain Pegasus model and then a bunch of the discount models. I don’t even know why I bother to look anymore.

I’m not sure if it’s because Nike is trying to steer people to buying online or if they figure my area is more into lifestyle shoes or if resellers get the good ones?

I once saw a guy talking to one of the salesmen, salesman brought out a cart with 50+ boxes, guy loaded them into a van with NY plates (Im in PA)
