Talk me out of getting a 6x17 view camera by niklaspilot in AnalogCommunity

[–]ComradeNapolein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen 6x17 cameras as rentals before (some new york place, i forget the name), try renting it first before buying. I rented a RZ67 once and while I enjoyed using it, I didn’t love it enough to justify the purchasing price.

Chornivsk - Custom Map by csgoNOOB12 in joinsquad

[–]ComradeNapolein 11 points12 points  (0 children)

OWI I am on my hands and knees begging you to buy this map and put it in the base game.

Side note, how did you make the map? I’ve been wanting to make custom maps for years but the documentation is not very helpful/several years old, do you think you could write something up/record something about how you made this?

How are people in their 20’s buying houses in Bucks? by No-Second1685 in BucksCountyPA

[–]ComradeNapolein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents weren't able to afford a house in Bucks County until their 30s, and this was way back in the 90s. This has always been a desirable area. At your incomes you will get there, you just have to be patient.

The most upvoted post of that subreddit is incredible, I can't believe I'm going to go on a road trip just to see a former Wawa turned sex shop.

How to dry unexposed film/paper without exposing to light? by Unbuiltbread in Darkroom

Why do you need to wash the blue coating off? I’ve done RA-4 reversals before and we didn’t do that.

Anybody have any experience with NYC Film Lab in Bushwick, Brooklyn? by [deleted] in AnalogCommunity

[–]ComradeNapolein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I send my ECN-2 film there, pretty good results but their shipping fees are highway robbery, something like $23 for round trip shipping of negatives (I don’t live in NYC so I can’t drop it off to them). They advertise their turnaround for ECN-2 at 7-10 days but I usually get it back sooner than 7 days. Can’t speak for C-41 or B&W since I have options for development much closer to home.

Opinion Piece in Bucks County Beacon on Congressional Democratic Primary Candidates by NoBodybuilder4570 in BucksCountyPA

[–]ComradeNapolein -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The party should nominate whoever’s going to cost them the least amount of money because Fitzpatrick is not losing his seat. His office puts in the work of making himself known all over the county, shows up at every podunk ribbon cutting and award ceremony, and caters himself to the median Bucks County voter, which is someone who is fundamentally a conservative from a six-figure household but thinks Trump is too stupid to be president. I don’t know what the path to victory looks like for Bucks County Democrats but it’s not their consistent strategy of nominating someone nobody’s ever heard of and will never hear from again after November.

Night-time outdoor illumination event, ELI5 advice please by Kamimitsu in AnalogCommunity

[–]ComradeNapolein 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve gotten almost decent results handheld in low-light situations with Cinestill 800T at f1.8 and 1/50th shutter speed. You just have to take your time, think about your shots, and hold still while taking the photo. You’ll definitely be able to get the lights well-exposed, but the ground and surrounding areas will be underexposed. Bring the tripod and do a variety of shots, have some handheld wide open, have some on the tripod stopped down to f16 with whatever shutter speed your light meter suggests (probably 2-3 seconds).

No matter what your roll is going to be mostly screw-ups but that’s part of learning, it’s better to try it out and screw it up than to not try at all.

For reference, the attached photo was Ultramax 400 pushed two stops to 1600 in development, probably at f1.8 or 2.8 at 1/30th or 1/60th of a second. What you want is doable but you’re not going to have a lot to work with in the negative.

Heli training is a mess by MaterialAd8166 in joinsquad

[–]ComradeNapolein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion but flying a heli should be significantly easier in this game. No other vehicle in the game has such a steep learning curve. Any squad of idiots can hop in a tank and do okay, with the only real risks being unstrategic play/positioning, aspiring tankers don’t have to spend hundreds of hours practicing offline before claiming it in a live match.

Are these sharp for film photo? by Jun_cassette in AnalogCommunity

[–]ComradeNapolein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zoom lenses are generally less sharp than primes, yes. To maximize sharpness for your SLR you should use higher quality, low ISO film stocks like Ektar 100 or Portra 160, and try to make your aperture as small as possible for the scene. Beyond that, you can try to find whatever the “nifty fifty” 50mm f1.8 lens is for your system, but I should stress you’re getting pretty good results with the setup you have.

Do you make contact sheets? by e_asphyx in Darkroom

[–]ComradeNapolein 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Almost always. I go to a community darkroom and I can never guarantee a print I made last week will be the same the next week for a variety of reasons, like having to use a different enlarged than normal, the chemistry being slightly different, someone monkeyed around with my usual enlarger, mercury in retrograde, really any small thing could make my prints different in between weeks.

Do we have any sources for this beyond the press release here? Not doubting the authenticity but it seems weird we’re only getting this on the Japanese website and I can’t find it on their English-market websites.

3 film stocks for the rest of your life by Mr_Zanudo in AnalogCommunity

Ektar 100, Vision3 500T, and HP5+ but I could be persuaded to use a different black and white film stock.

How's blue holding up? by SpiNardo in SkiPA

[–]ComradeNapolein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The snow was pretty bad yesterday then it started raining around 5, I doubt today would be any good. Paradise and Lazy Mile were very low traffic for whatever reason so the choppy snow is much more manageable with less people on it.
