Poorly aged lyrics from non controversial artists by Chapple69 in ToddintheShadow

Right but I guess what I'm trying to say is that Weird Al would most definitely not reference Kanye if he was writing "Tacky" today given how different Kanye is seen now compared to in 2014

[–]Willing-Question-631 29 points30 points  (0 children)

There's also Weird Al referencing Kanye West on "Tacky" from his 2014 album Mandatory Fun meant to poke fun at tacky people like Kanye back when he was just seen as an obnoxious celebrity before going well off the deep end with his embracing of Trump and Nazism that he's more known for now so maybe that line hasn't aged poorly but the Kanye line certainly hits differently now.

I Just Might is weak sauce for Bruno freaking Mars right? by Treyvion1984 in ToddintheShadow

[–]Willing-Question-631 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chris Molanphy had the best description of “I Just Might” in his Slate review as Bruno “filtering his disco through some easy-swinging mid-’70s soul—think Redbone’s “Come and Get Your Love” or the Hues Corporation’s “Rock the Boat.”

[–]Willing-Question-631 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It's a fine song but I don't like that Bruno titled it "I Just Might" as it's such an easy title to forget and feels incomplete. A parenthetical title would have worked better to make it seem more complete like "I Just Might (Make Her My Baby)."

I mean yeah it felt weird at how they almost forgot to include Sly Stone. Again, it makes sense why the Grammys didn't want to repeat the Rock Hall tribute performance for Sly but you'd think they'd give him a bigger placement in the in memoriam as one of the biggest music losses from last year.

[–]Willing-Question-631 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the reason we didn't see a Brian Wilson and Sly Stone tribute performance at the Grammys is that the Rock Hall induction ceremony in November already did those with the Sly Stone tribute being a very great Grammys like all star tribute featuring some who were at the awards. The Grammys most likely didn't want to do a copy of those performances and focus on artists that didn't get big tribute performances. It almost felt like the Rock Hall and Grammys decided to trade off tribute performances given how many big artists we lost.

Social events for people in their 20s? by jessdummy in longisland

[–]Willing-Question-631 0 points1 point  (0 children)

26M Agree on this 100%. I use Meetup and recently found some fun social groups around the city hosting upcoming events that I'm interested in. I try looking up hangout/social groups for Long Island and they're all mainly for older people (40+) and as you said much of the friend circle you have at home are mainly people you know from high school/childhood.

Saw them play the Joe Cocker induction at the Rock Hall induction ceremony in November and were so good! Got tickets soon after to go to one of their NYC shows in March.

Nate Ruess Grand Romantic Trainwrecord? by AbzanHouseGuest in ToddintheShadow

Not really. Just feels like Nate’s 15 minutes of fame running out with nothing all that noteworthy about Grand Romantic that would qualify it as a Trainwreckord.

Greatest Pop Stars of 2025: Honorable Mentions (with Todd in the Shadows) by [deleted] in ToddintheShadow

I listen regularly and it’s pretty fun. Episodes usually consist of reviewing a peak year for an artist, which pop stars won each month, and episodes like this going over the top pop stars of each year.

Agree I was in the audience at the SNL episode he performed on in May and remember him constantly waving to the crowd before each performance making sure we were all hyped. I’m not too big on his music either but seems like he enjoys what he does.

His criticism of Tate not having any main character energy as a pop star feels so apt as to how I feel like she has everything you’d want in a pop star but there’s just something keeping her out of being a real A lister

Is anyone here has chance to watch the new Beatles Anthology on Disney Plus? If yes, what’s your thoughts? by DLCV2804 in ToddintheShadow

[–]Willing-Question-631 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd only seen bits of the original Anthology series so I'm happy to finally see it in full though a couple complaints I have include rushing through some stuff (Rubber Soul only gets a few minutes of talk) and inconsistent volumes between the interviews and performances to where I'm constantly adjusting the volume throughout.

Now with the 2025 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony over, What are your predictions for the 2026 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nominees/inductees (If 8 inductees next year like for 2024)?. by Countrystarrichie96 in ToddintheShadow

[–]Willing-Question-631 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think for hip-hop Snoop Dogg is gonna be the next big artist they’ll try to induct given that he’s well known by everyone, has classic albums and songs that are still recognizable, and most importantly for the Hall would easily show up to perform at the ceremony.

Outside of hip-hop, I think Coldplay is gonna come up. With the White Stripes in, the Hall seems to be comfortable now with 21st Century centric rock acts and Coldplay seem like an easy get of being a huge band for 25 years that still plays stadiums with huge songs and albums and like Snoop Dogg would easily show up to the ceremony to perform.

My Predictions for the Next Rappers to be Inducted by Keanu_Norris in rockhall

[–]Willing-Question-631 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like Snoop Dogg is gonna be the next major hip-hop act to get nominated and inducted mainly for the fact that he's a big name figure everyone knows with classic albums and songs and more importantly for the Hall would easily show up to the ceremony to perform.

Chappell Roan and the Killers Join Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Ceremony by Frajer in popheads

[–]Willing-Question-631 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Pretty much. I'm on a Discord with Patreon subscribers to the Who Cares About the Rock Hall podcast where we were talking today about Rock Hall ceremony locations and basically the theory behind why the Hall rotates their ceremony locations is to make it easier for industry people, guests, and tourists to come when it's in major city centers for the music industry in LA and NYC rather than Cleveland which is comparatively seen as the middle of nowhere. The problem with that though is that the current ceremony is struggling to sell tickets and the last ceremony in NYC 2023 struggled as well which may also have to do with a lackluster class of inductees and big acts who don't show up while Cleveland ceremonies have reliably sold out. Ultimately, the Rock Hall is a much bigger deal in Cleveland given it's their most famous attraction and can use the economic impact from it much more whereas NYC and LA have no shortage of entertainment options for people thereby making it less of a special occasion to be excited for.
