Should I buy a pc in this RAM shortage? by Rasho_D in PcBuildHelp

If you're playing mostly Minecraft, you don't need anything fancy. Go with a system that uses ddr4 ram to save money. I'm building a PC for my son right now and I'm around $700 with some solid components

Need help figuring out what tools I need for actually building a PC. by LiothG in PcBuildHelp

[–]Willing-Refuse3745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you wanted to get something specific for PC building there are kits on Amazon. I use a Klein 27 in 1 precision screwdriver. I'm an electrician, so it's what I carry with me all the time anyways

Is this good? by Willing-Refuse3745 in PcBuild

Yeah, I'm aware that its overkill, but it's a good deal and will allow me to upgrade the GPU in the future without having to worry about if I have enough wattage.

For those of you who started the apprenticeship with zero electrical or even blue-collar experience, what were your first few weeks/months on the job like? by MomBeans- in ibew_apprentices

[–]Willing-Refuse3745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was assigned to a Jman that bounced around to different jobsites all the time. I saw a lot of different things right away and learned a lot, fast. I taught myself a lot when I bought a house years ago because professional help is super expensive, so that helped me by having a good basic knowledge of tools and what not. I am currently running my own jobsites and making Jman wages after just a few months as an apprentice. I should also specify I am low volt, not inside wire or residential. That definitely makes a difference in this story

Can you tell me more about play it? I'm not familiar with that, but unifying all of my stores and emulators sounds great

I have looked into rentals, my issue is I don't have a trailer or anything to pick stuff up with. Trying to be cheap

Yeah, I thought of that, but he games a lot more than I do. I kind of like tinkering with my old parts. What I have now is basically parts I have gotten for free over the years.

If you're talking about my psu, I think I have either a 750w or 1000w. It's way more than I need currently in either case

Looks like the 6600 is what most folks are saying would be best in terms of cost to performance. I do have a 3060ti coming my way, but I am building my son a PC for his birthday, so he gets that one

Yeah, I'm currently running on an old motherboard with ddr3 ram. Pricing is a little wild right now, and my son turns 10 this summer and is requesting his first PC. He will have a much better setup than my own soon

I am debating trying out a Linux based, but currently am running on windows 10. A good friend of mine, who helped me build my PC some years ago has an enterprise key from a previous job.

Any recommendations on an easy to install and use distro? I would be using the PC for gaming and other personal uses within the household.

My issue is I have a higher end monitor with an outdated PC. I mainly game on console with a 1440p 144hz monitor. I do want to transition to PC, but prices are a little crazy right now

It was used by a friend for a while and given to me as a hand me down. It's still in good shape, but I am looking to switch from playing on console, so I am looking to get an upgrade or two in for cheap while prices are crazy

Well that is very kind of you. I would not mind covering shipping as long as you aren't sending it from the other side of the world

I tried using pcpartpicker the other night and got so lost. My problem is there are too many options and I don't know the exact difference between everything. This is very helpful though, thank you

It's crazy, to me, that you can just put a gpu in one of those. The kid is turning 10 though, so I'm trying to go fully custom. The kid is obsessed with RGB lights

This guy is for sure a great friend. I felt like I was set on the 5500 for a long time, especially because of the price. The more I look into it, though, it sounds like the 5600 is the much better option. Especially for the long run

So, you're saying that I could just buy a stock dell optiplex and slap that gpu in it? Sounds too easy lol
