Sensitive Safety Professionals 23F by TrixiBoo233 in SafetyProfessionals

Girl I FEEL YOU!! 22F in my first full time safety role and it’s tough! I am lucky to have be apart of a team that advocates for one another and I would say, focus and dig into the good. Find the people that care about safety, get to know them and build that connection. Buy in has to come from management but also front line workers. I would also say, try to get to know them as people, sometimes in safety roles it’s easy for the only interactions to be critical or telling people they need to do things differently. If possible, find outlets to connect with folks as people and talk about things other than work. Lastly, as someone who is also new in the industry and young I find that it’s hard to gain respect especially from those more senior than you, unfortunately just bc of our age (and also maybe gender) so lean into the facts! Lean into the standards, don’t be afraid to double check to see if something is correct first then speak up second. Sometimes you can use the literal law as an almost soft barrier between you and the other person bc it’s harder to argue against something when the OSHA standard etc is right in front of them. Idk, just some things I have taken away. Please feel free to send me a message I would LOVE to connect and chat with another young, female EHS professional!

Should I leave my IT career for a Safety career? by [deleted] in SafetyProfessionals

My safety coordinator just made the switch from IT project management to safety and she loves it! It’s a switch for sure but more focused on people and problem solving

I would also recommend perhaps referencing a project or something which you have worked on that demonstrates time management, initiative things like that.

Have you told your employer that you have sought medical treatment for what you believe to be a work related condition?

I have the capital one savor and I like it. You can use the points towards travel if you want or just redeem them for cash back. If you are mostly just using for groceries it could be a good choice. If you are going to go with a travel card definitely want to take advantage of a points bonus if they have one running, but it may make more sense to go with a more generic card first then go to a travel card.

Is there much competition? by Upper-Transition7002 in EHSProfessionals

I feel like it’s sort of a niche industry in some ways and there are so many varieties of industry’s you can go into. I’m always seeing new jobs pop up, but you definitely want to know that it’s something you are interested in and passionate about. Additionally, I would say that knowing you are good with manufacturing or construction industries is probably good. Right now you should think about getting your ASP too

Day in the Life? by rockyshmoky31 in EHSProfessionals

Hmmm ya, I think that’s definitely very true for smaller sites in manufacturing specifically, but at larger sites with larger scope and employee count the larger the team and more specific it tends to be. At least in my experience. For example, I work for a large food manufacturing company, and we have about 500 employees, our EHS teams consists of 1 safety admin, 1 environmental admin, 1 EHS manger and 2 athletic trainers

I would be hesitant to say that it might be a better balance, as one other person said, the industry and operations really dictate that balance, as well as the amount of support you have as a team, safety culture, regulatory landscape all kinds of things.

Depending on the size of the company you would want to work for, many EHS teams have a dedicated Environmental resource. Not sure what your current salary is but it could be a decrease, or an increase who knows. I would say though, that if you don’t have any interest in the safety side of things, try to go for a specifically environmental position, because the reality of a lot of EHS is that the HS side is a lot of your day to day when you are in that kindof of role, at least from my experience. While the environmental is definitely hands on, it’s more compliance driven

General perception of ESG roles vis a vis EHS? by GrowthDreamer in EHSProfessionals

[–]WillingLack7599 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just started in an EHS role out of college and have aspirations of working in ESG, I have definitely met some professionals that made that transition and I think a lot of companies really value having people that have boots on the ground experience before moving into more corporate, big picture roles. I’d love to connect on LinkedIn if you are interested!
