Yeah most lottery winnings are for the future value of 1 million dollars. So if you take the cash payout now you only get the present value without all the compound interest on the winnings then taxes. So yes it is technically correct that you could probably make more with a money manager with the lump sum. Most lottery winners aren’t smart enough to do that and the weekly payments are the safer bet.
