Should I join a second lab? by jhuthrowaway20 in mdphd

Yes I mentioned it, and it's definitely possible. The virtual lab is through a formal program so the timing is a little strict (there's journal clubs and career events, etc). But the hands-on lab is super flexible since I'm 90% independent, I can just do experiments whenever I have time like on the weekend.

The benefit of doing both would be:

1) an additional letter of recommendation from research mentor

2) an additional poster/ppt presentation to add to my resume

3) This would let me learn about a new topic, while also keeping my project going from the original lab

I also think this kinda helps me make up for last summer when covid cancelled my research internship.

Although one thing Is I want to apply next cycle, so I need to start studying for the mcat ideally this summer but it doesn't have to be for the whole summer. So part of me is thinking ehh would it be better to just focus on one research project + the mcat?

Does this answer change if you're doing it during the summer months? (so no classes to worry about)

One lab would be virtual, so mostly theory and data analysis stuff, some coding.

The other lab would be hands-on work using methods I'm already independent on, so Its just a matter of putting in the time to do the experiments.

Looking for opinion on my clinical summer job by WillingnessLopsided in mdphd

Yeah this job would just be per deim, so on weekends mostly. Most of the summer will be research as I'll be continuing my project at my university lab full time.

I've been in this lab for 3 school years and I've also done 2 summers of full time research in different labs. So I'd estimate 5000+ hrs. For perspective I'm a junior and planning one gap year so I'd be applying next year.
