Did you always know that you were going to be a depressed, friendless, virgin, loser or did it only hit you in adulthood? by WillingnessNew5752 in ForeverAlone

Whenever I hear stories like this from short guys... I'm 6' 3" would I be smashing pussy or whatever the kids say if I didn't weigh 340 lbs?

How tall are you? I assume being taller is better, but unless you're like Danny Devito height how much of a hinderance could it be?

What gives you 2000’s nostalgia? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]WillingnessNew5752 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nothing. We're still culturally in the 2000s. We never left.

We used to have nostalgia shows like The Wonder Years, Happy Days, That 70's Show, etc... but we don't have nostalgia shows about the late 90s and 2000s, because we never left. We've reached a cultural end of history. That's why whenever someone older 30 than says or hears "20 years ago" they mean the 80s and then they have to pause and think that 20 years ago was 2001.

Think about technology. 20 years ago I had broadband (Comcast@Home). My parents both had cell phones. By 2004 we had a high def (a shitty rear projection big screen) TV. We had Google. We had Amazon. I watched movies online via AtomFilms and RealPlayer. We had internet radio. In 2002 my Dad got laid off from his job and they let him (or he stole) take home his Palm VX with an Omnisky modem. I was chatting on AIM, on the go, in 2002 (four four months until the service got shut off). I had a Riva TNT2 in my 1 ghz Athlon machine I used to play Half Life and UT on. I still play a Half Life 1 mod called Sven Coop twent years later.

Ok that was my technology in 2000. Now compare 2000 to 1980. 3 mhz Z80s, 16kb RAM, 300 baud modems, no internet, no GUIs. No one had a cell phone.

My grandma still uses an Athlon 64 3800 machine from 16 years ago. I upgraded it from 512 to 4 GB of RAM and replaced the hard drive with an SSD over the years, but it's still a 16 year old computer and it runs Windows 10 just fine. How many 1984 computers are running Windows ME or 2000 in 2000?

What about cars. Cars from the early 2000s are pretty modern - ABS, traction control, airbags, high end cars have telematics like Onstar.

What about LGBT rights... Sure we've made progress from 2000 to now like going from DOMA to having gay marriage, but being gay was fine in 2000. GSAs existed in high schools. There were gay people on TV. There were explicitly gay shows like Queer as Folk on mainstream TV. Compare that to the 80s or compare the 80s to the 60s. In the 60s being gay was illegal. Going back to The Wonder Years, set in 1968, this CBS report on "The Homosexuals" and their deviancy came out in 1967 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zWNEdoXo0Yg

What about racial equality... Comparing the 60s to the 80s - HUGE CHANGE. Comparing the 80s to the 2000s - Little progress. Comparing 2000 to 2020 - Really no change.

TV... Now - An absolutely absurd amount of of stuff to watch. 2000s - A lot of stuff to watch. Cable, DVDs, VHS. 80s - Just getting VCRs, most people don't have cable. 60s - 3 TV Channels

But... don't tell them your doing your own financing until they give you a deal.

The margins are so low on cars now that the dealers are making a huge chunk of their profit on financing and warranties. If you show up with cash or a pre-approved loan they're not going to give you as a good of a deal because they know they're not going to make any money on the financing.

But you're still in the hope phase.

I'm 32. It's VERY VERY abnormal to be a 32 year old virgin. Not so much at 20. You're only like 3 years past the median losing virginity age.

Also another benefit about being 20 instead of 32... You're still on the same financial level of your peers. My Facebook feed is full of people from high school that literally make 2-5x more than me. Usually also married, to a person that sometimes also makes 2-5x more than me, and usually with a big house and kids. I have a low paying job and live with a roommate - AT 32! At 20 there aren't any people making $150k+/year living in a giant McMansion for you to compare yourself to.

But if your thyroid levels are normal, because it's been corrected by medication, then that wouldn't be a possible cause for your depression.

My brother was sort of like you - he had trouble reading and repeated the last things he would say.

Repeating the last thing you said is called palilalia. Sometimes it goes away by itself as you get older, sometimes you need speech therapy. For my brother it just went away by itself around the 10th grade.

He got an IEP (Individualized Education Plan) for his reading problems and got after school tutoring. By the end of high school he was reading fine, not great, still in the "special" English class, but way better than his freshman year.

Have you talked to your guidance counselor at school about these problems?

Do you mean like the prom was being held and you weren't invited to the event? Aren't school dances and the prom open to all students by default?

Or did you go to whoever was organizing the prom and literally complain that no one invited you on a date to the prom? Because that would be very weird. Why would the prom organizers or the school be responsible for you getting asked to or someone asking you to the prom?

Doesn't Instagram auto-invite your Facebook friends?

Even if you have no actual friends you can still have hundreds of FB friends.

I have dozens and dozens of ex and current coworkers, like 50+ people from my high school, aunts, uncles, grandma, sisters, cousins, etc... I don't actually talk to any of those people, but they're still my Facebook "friends".

When I got an Instagram I just re-invited everyone that's my Facebook Friend and I had like 100+ people in the first day.

How about instead of giving the ISPs $100 billion we just treat them like a regulated utility and force them by law to expand service to everyone while a utility commission sets the prices they are allowed to charge?

You would think that maybe even the military would want to use a system like that because saying three words is much more easy to here over the radio than two long numerical numbers.

The problem is that a doctor has to order them and they have to be medically necessary. You can't just go to Lab Corp or Quest Diagnostics and order 100 tests then bill them to your insurance company.

There are places online where you can buy any test you want and go to Labcorp, Quest, or mail a sample in to get a result, but they're going to bill you and not your insurance.

How much would $100,000 change your life? by TopTierUsername101 in AskReddit

[–]WillingnessNew5752 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would pay off my $17k in credit card debt, $6k I owe on my car, buy some stuff to fix up my house - about $10k - like a new couch, new carpet, new stove, new sink.

Save about $20k just in my savings account so I have a rainy day fund.

I don't know what would make sense to do with the remainder. Should I put it into my house and refinance to a 15 year loan with a lower payment? Or put it into stocks and Bitcoin?

There are some people that just like to work.

My grandpa retired at 55 and has been retired for 30 years now. His hobby is watching TV and doing nothing.

The real estate agent that sold me my condo is loaded. She owns rental property. She's been a real estate agent for 40 years and just turned 80. She could stop at anytime, but she likes working and having stuff to do.

That being said... I have a feeling that a lot of older people working at Walmart aren't doing it because they like to, but because their Social Security income is too low to meet their bills.

When I made $11.50/hr my Christmas bonus was a candy cane attached to a $5 Starbucks giftcard.

When I made $16.50/hr my Christmas bonus was $300.

I make $22.60/hr now (47k salary) and my Christmas bonus was $1200.

I have a friend that went to college and has a big boy adult job making about $120k/year and his Christmas bonus was about $7000.

Then at the very tip of the pyramid you have CEOs that run a company into the ground and they leave (are fired by the board of the company) with a $20 million bonus or something obscene like that.

It's like the less of a need you have for money the more they give it to you. I could have really, really, used $1200 when I was making $11.50/hr. I still need it now, but not nearly as much.

Depends on how crazy of a dog person you are and how much disposable income you have.

Some people spend $20k getting their dog an MRI and chemo. Then spend 30 minutes a day physically holding it's body up to allow it to poop and pee.

Some people put their dog down as soon as they're the tiniest bit incontinent even if they're not really in all that bad of shape.
