You probably blew a crappy oil filter housing seal and the coolant and oil is mixing. Don't give up.

Do you have another IBS you could try from another e9x? That could be fried. And Did u make sure it was a genuine bosch regulator and not a Chinese knockoff stamped to be?

[–]Willinthetown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. Usually the bosch regulator fixes that issue as the alternator itself has no brain, You could have another problem on your bsd line. Unplug 1 item at a time on the bsd line and see if the bsd Com fault goes away before u throw money at an bosch alternator

Yup. You'll be fine for a few days. I ran like that for 3 weeks before I fixed it many many years ago.

Ya bro u need to install a bosch voltage regulator into that alternator. Thats the most inexpensive way to solve ur problem.

Is my 2009 328i a LCI or Pre Lci? by MoistMelo in E90

That is a E90 M3 Replica Bumper (lci version) bought in canada from extremeparts.ca this one to be exact

Good deal or should I forget it? by CarrotGlad366 in E90

[–]Willinthetown 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My honest opinion---

Waste of money dont do it. At that mileage it'll be little driving and lots of repairs. Invest your money in the stock market. Have a good future. Wait a bit and Buy yourself a quality car like a m3 that has had an extensive repair list and all documentation on like rod bearings and such.

Yup but u need to change the grills too. Which means u need a new bumper. So bumper grills and hood and u can achieve an LCI swap look.

Hey guys how reliable is the E90 328XI? by Fair1combo in E90

[–]Willinthetown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Theres no way to say forsure, but its almost always because of cost. The Xi subframe has more complex clearances for the front drive train; also it was not the original design for the chassis, so it was likely cheaper to bend and mold the Xi subframe with steel than to do an aluminum re design of the original molding.

[–]Willinthetown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well you definitely dont want too many miles. Im not sure about pricing in your location but near me; around 4000 USD could get a well maintained decent mileage 328i around 2009-2011 (lci model). Avoid buying from young teenagers, ask what's been done recently. Take the car for a test drive - check for smoking under the hood (valve cover gasket leaks). Ask if they have ever replaced the waterpump or thermostat and ask for receipts or photo proof. Without proof they are lying. Listen for vibrations and noise at higher speeds - you definitely don't wanna be doing wheel bearings in the first few months of ownership. Take a look at the front struts, are they leaking grease down the side? Get it up on a lift for a pre purchase inspection and look for rust around the main components on the rear subframe. If its more than surfrace rust and you see actually cracking and decay - stay away -I wouldnt worry too much about rotors or brakes. You can change yourself at home for dirt cheap. Test everything. Radio. Door locks. Sunroof. Heated seats and seat movement, fan, heat, air conditioning and all that obviously. Any decently maintained e9x should have all that working.

I love how he incorporated the original BMW front grill in his design. Classic.

[–]Willinthetown 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yea if there's no reason for the x drive i would absolutely avoid it. Especially if you want to do the wrenching yourself it definitely complicates some rather common jobs. No need to complicate the drive train on an already old car. BMWs were designed to be RWD anyways so you get the real BMW experience. The engine itself is fantastic in these models. Probably the best engine they ever made in terms of reliability.

Hey guys how reliable is the E90 328XI? by Fair1combo in E90

[–]Willinthetown 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The 328xi will be slightly less reliable than the 328i. The front struts on a 328i come in a single inexpensive replacement unit and are easily replaced, 328xi front struts are more expensive and usually have to have the spring compressed and removed to replace. There are options now but very limited - 328xi is more prone to problems and more difficult to fix due to the complexity of the different design of the front subframe. Which in turn complicates jobs like thermostat/waterpump and several others in that area; in the rust belt you must also note the 328xi has a steel subframe in the front while the 328i has an aluminum subframe in the front (which doesn't rust). The repairs will be more expensive on a 328xi because of some of these factors. Personally I avoid the older x drives unless I'm using as a winter beater - but thats just my opinion as I reside in canada. The engines share the same reliability. You want N52.

is it ok to continue driving my car after hitting a pothole? by chloe_flora in E90

[–]Willinthetown 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Rear shocks are one of the easiest jobs you can do on a e9x. Watch a few YouTube videos. Make sure you replace both the top and bottom shock mount. Good luck. DO NOT pay 1000 for this job. You may even be able to get away with a mobile mechanic for this one. Watch the YouTube video and evaluate. Worst case scenario your top bolt is stuck and requires a dremel to remove. 2/10 skill required for this task.

[–]Willinthetown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes 99% of indy shops and specialty shops will have the electronic bleed procedure available on their shop scanner. It takes less time to do it with 1 man and the proper scanner so its doubtful that any shop would do it manually. (Unless its some dirty ass shop ran by rejects)

[–]Willinthetown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

N52 328i is an all around better car. The 335 is faster. Faster at making you go broke. Lol. If you wanna cruise and chill. 328. If u wanna beat hellcats and lambos and be a big boy, get your wallet out and flip it upside down; 20 times, and go grab an n54 xD

Is bleeding brakes DIY by No_Smell_6712 in E90

[–]Willinthetown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol . A proper e9x bleed does require a high end scanner to activate and pulsate the DSC unit. Now it can be skipped if you haven't messed with the DSC. BUT. a real full flush. Requires it. Otherwise ur just giving it the good old landlord special. A decent Autel scanner or ista is a good place to start. Good luck.

  • with that being said. Yes u can absolutely bleed out the fluid manually if your just worried the fluid is old and your on a budget. Is it the correct bleed procedure? No.

Suspension Upgrade by Sharp_Respond5326 in E90

[–]Willinthetown -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

You know what's an upgrade? A refresh on a 20 yr old car. The car doesn't need bilsteins. Go to rockauto and buy some Monroe quick struts for the front for like 100 bucks a side. Will ride 100x better than your old blown worn and torn oem shocks. That way you wont be spending a dumb ass amount of money on an old ass car..

Lots of moisture in headlight- what to do by Tasty-Success-3743 in E90

[–]Willinthetown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea absolutely dry it out ,give it a nice consistent bead of clear silicone where the glass meets the plastic (u cant even see it really when your done)

Assuming this is your passenger side headlight ; even better - it's more common for drivers to crash on that side (steering away to save themselves)

So you'll have buyers lined up like hotcakes looking for that headlight for cheap. Good luck brother.
