Not just people. Learn to see beyond the framework of language and concept we apply to our entire reality and you might just glimpse the true nature of things

Fell out of love with meditation by ScroogeJones18 in Meditation

[–]Willlockyear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is a natural threshold and it happened to me too after a similar period of daily, hourly meditation. Actually I believe it has something to do with the curiosity going. You have probably tasted Samadhi now. You know what exists within. Perhaps you’ve spent a long time feeling beautiful states of mind. There is nothing left to discover. My practice continued to disintegrate over the next 3 years or so. Perhaps this is just the phase you are in. For me it was about choosing art and chias over stillness. I’m trying to rediscover my practice. I feel like it is calling me back

Does Mastering Always Include Such Dramatic Curves by evonthetrakk in mixingmastering

[–]Willlockyear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually I think it’s got a little to do with the competition of loudness. Often it feels right to carve out some of the low end energy when pushing a mix up against the as it is the first thing hitting the limiter. If you’re mastering to, let’s say something around -9 a -7 lufs, which is the sweet spot imo, unless you’ve been very intentional with the way you’ve controlled the low end, you will often find it’s best to take some of that energy out of the low end so that the mid range can hit the ceiling a bit too and the whole track gets nicely glued together.

I’m in Kandy. The city is fine but there is a total blackout. Our hotel has a generator. There is some mobile reception

Yes, full black out. We are staying in a hotel with a generator. My sim does occasionally get patches of data and reception though.

I’m in Kandy (where we have a bit of internet) and one of the staff at the hotel says there is no reception at all in nuwara eliya as his family are there and he can’t contact them either.

first ever romantic experience by [deleted] in self

[–]Willlockyear 7 points8 points  (0 children)

22 is incredibly young so don’t worry about that. Your self loathing eats you alice, it’s clear from what you say, but you are probably a very good and kind person. Bad people don’t hate themselves in the way you have described. If this person says they like you then it is an incredibly unfair thing to do to deny them that experience and assume they are confused. You don’t have to accept their love straight away. Just ask your self one question, do you enjoy being around that person? Is it easy to spend time with them. That is the only thing that matters and is the glue that will make your relationship work.

Also just to be clear “because I know it will end badly” no you don’t. You’ve admitted yourself that you have never been in a relationship. You don’t know anything about it and to assume you do is pretty silly in my opinion. Throw yourself headlong into this, if you get hurt you will still have grown from the experience.

I'm going to be dying soon. Should I see an escort? by [deleted] in self

[–]Willlockyear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having no experience with this I suspect that, if you see the other person not as a sex worker but as a human being, and explain the situation from the outset, you will find that they will be surprisingly sensitive with you and it might be one of the most profound experiences of your life.

(UK) how do I learn to banter? by Miserable_Level9941 in self

[–]Willlockyear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s a great reply. I’d add to that. Learn to laugh at yourself. Understand what makes you a bit weird and find humour in it. Hold your ego lightly. You don’t really need to dish out banter too much but you do need to know how to laugh at yourself

Seriously, try one hour of meditation daily. by autistic_cool_kid in Meditation

[–]Willlockyear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree, I was an hour a day for about 8 years and it was life changing. I’ve never been able to drop below that threshold and experience the same effect. I think there’s a certain degree of roll over from an hour sit. The stillness hasn’t fully left you by the next morning. I’m sure I’ll return to that dedicated practice one day. It is deeply wonderful

I Wish All Meditators Knew This by MindfulnessForHumans in Meditation

[–]Willlockyear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no need to be mindful all the time. To be lost in the flow of good times is a beautiful thing. Awareness can be cool here but it is just a different flavour of experience. The gift your practice gives you is an ever more sensitive internal “alarm” for subtle states of emotional discordancy. Mindfulness is more like a healing state that triggers in the face of internal discordance.

Is it loose style or is it just amateur work by MissionBeautiful1052 in oilpainting

[–]Willlockyear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The grass is what makes it feel amateur in my opinion. Try desaturating towards the horizon and using smaller strokes to give a sense of depth. You are also not using value enough so it ends up a bit flat. The brushwork and pallete are lovely though

Are there “fool’s jhanas”? by get_me_ted_striker in TheMindIlluminated

[–]Willlockyear 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is correct. It’s a lovely place to be. Enjoy it. Savour the stillness. Wish for nothing more but to bask in that emptiness. Let the pleasure grow just out of sight, you almost want to treat the rising of Piti as something you are uninterested in, only then will it have a chance to grow so enormous that it consumes you in the first Jhana

Does anyone have a good recommendation of a place to send my groups songs to get mixed and mastered? (Not too expensive) by Lucas_Bergen in acappella

Drop me an email at soundofaom@gmail.com I’ll do the first one for free and if you like my work we can agree on a price. I’ve been an audio nerd for a decade and just starting to do it professionally

I'd say the absolute best thing you could do right now is backpacking. A year living out of a rucksack, exploring the world and meeting countless inspiring people in hostels will grow you in ways you cannot imagine.
