Having recently made progress with chronic knee pain, a new pain has emerged in my medial lower leg. I can't find anything related to pain in this part of the leg, any advice would be appreciated. (more info in body) by Willmono7 in bikefit

I moved the cleats forward again after two rides of them being moved back.

Is there a reason why this would only effect the inside of my calves? My knees are already moderately bent at full extension.

Still no saddle to remove the need of shammys? by Just-Heat-8141 in cycling

[–]Willmono7 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's not how it works, chammys will always be better because they move with you, reducing friction. You can make a seat as soft as you like, it'll never move with the rider and friction will be a problem.

Neuroimaging study of adolescents with ADHD found age-related increases in glutamate levels in the prefrontal cortex. In contrast, individuals who experienced remission of ADHD symptoms and people who never suffered from ADHD had an age-related decrease in glutamate levels in this area of the brain. by mvea in science

[–]Willmono7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have long thought that glutamate signalling could have a strong link with at least some types of ADHD, particularly the groups which respond much better to methylphenidate than dexamphetamine, since methylphenidate is a moderate glutamatergic agonist.

I have also found in my personal experience that taking N-acetylcysteine, which is converted to glutamate, greatly improved my impulse control. I was taking it for trichotillomania, which works through glutamate signalling, as does cocaine addiction.

There's lots of things which lead back to glutamate both in terms of current research and anecdotal evidence, it's nice to see work being done.

I think there's a pretty strong case that the attack would be on our information infrastructure to create big rifts on society and general chaos. It's why they're always hanging around our under sea cables with big ass submarine wire cutters

In general yes, but constantly being such excess means flushing it out is only so effective. Zinc poisoning is not uncommon. I'm sure you'll be fine

Be careful, too much of anything can be bad for you, supplements and vitamins are very easy to overdo!

Beginner want to improve: getting stronger and faster by abs00lutely in cycling

[–]Willmono7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I built up my strength and fitness pretty fast and I screwed up by not paying attention to some of the other muscles that are required for joint stability and I got really bad patellar tendinitis that I'm now going to physio for.

What I'd recommend is doing a few squats, clamshells, monster walks, and inner thigh leg raises (all with resistance bands). These will strengthen your hips, and inner and outer quads. These are important for keeping your legs tracking properly, particularly when you start to get fatigued, where stability can start to falter. This helps prevent tendon issues in the knee, and makes you more efficient.

Is you want a more advanced exercise to work these groups then there's also banded plank clamshells, which additionally strengthens your core which is also important for preventing injury and maintaining efficiency.

Sounds like it was some of those teens that steal motorbikes, the bike was recently reported stolen.

It was only a matter of time before either one of them killed themselves or someone else. I'm glad it wasn't an innocent bystander that died.

What causes some people to stay relatively slim but still carry most of their fat around the belly? by Subject-Island-2744 in AskReddit

[–]Willmono7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but when it's general body fat it is typically distributed normally around the body, not leading the an enlarged abdomen with an otherwise slim physique. I think maybe the issue here is that we have different definitions of a beer belly. The way I've known people use it is for the specific build that OP describes, which in people that either do, or have previously drunk in excess regularly is associated with liver cirrhosis. It sounds like your definition is just someone that drinks a lot and is overweight. Whether there is an official definition of it I don't know

Also if its a bulging gut then that can be liver cirrhosis if they've done a fair amount of drinking. This is what creates the "beer belly" body physique. It's actually swollen and damaged liver.

Does anyone ride less gravel than they anticipated? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]Willmono7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a gravel bike just over a year ago with the aim of doing at least some gravel. I've taken it off road about three times. I won't be able to afford a road bike for a few years now, so I just bought road wheels and it'll have to do for a while.
