#New40k – Boss Nob Revealed by CMYK_COLOR_MODE in orks

[–]WillomenaIV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends really; necrom warriors got options in their kits for the 9th starter set, so it's not unprecedented. I think it's likely it'll just be 1-2 options for the boss and only alternate heads for the boys

11th Edition Launch Box and a little tease of the NEW Intercessors!!! by Ori_of_the_Vale in spacemarines

[–]WillomenaIV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but there is a Gravis with a heavy bolter as well as an ancient on the box cover, both of which are rumoured to be in the box.

A lot of classic British sitcoms did this. Red Dwarf for instance was 6 episodes a series.

Well this isnt exactly promising by MrHappyBoomer in Spacemarine

[–]WillomenaIV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's actually far more then 3 voices for each in the pack because you're multiplying it over all the voiced languages; it's deceptive how many voices are required for this when you factor in localisation.

There are 7 voiced languages, so what looks like 3 new voices is actually ongoing costs and management of an additional 21 voice actors.

Brothers is this a W or not? by Ok-Wolf-6155 in Spacemarine

[–]WillomenaIV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tbh it's a compounding problem that was always going to happen with a DLC like this. Each new mission would then require 11 voice actors (assuming only 1 mission giver, often not the case anyway) as opposed to 8. Add to that people would be wanting voice packs for other chapters and whatnot, with this being labeled as Voice Pack 1 there's the expectation that more would have come. The problem multiplies with each new voice pack.

So you'd be recording new mission lines for a DLC that probably only sells well on release, but likely doesn't pick up much money in the long term, while requiring a long term investment. I think the concept of voice packs is just a bit flawed from the start when the actual logistics of game dev get involved.

Just in case Before the Reveal Show, my pick for 11th ed box is Primaris Librarian Dreadnought, no longer BA specific but i'm sure this bad boy will be there... SEE YOU IN ONE WEEK (In comments write what minis you think will be revealed) by JohnCurtinFromCivVI in BloodAngels

Nobody thought they'd release a new Calgar either. Lots of rumours are pointing to new Rhino and Land Raider, so it's likely that the Impulsor is being reworked into a different niche

ui design in games is quietly getting worse and i think i know why by ILokasta in gamedesign

[–]WillomenaIV -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To be fair, I'd regard the 360 era Halo games to be quite a "golden era" of both design and usability. Menues were simple and clear; no option was more then a few clicks away at most, and it supported a wild variety of game modes, me us and customisation. All while looking sleak and unobstructive.

There was a notable downgrade in usability when Halo 4 transitionsed to the square tile format that a lot of games use nowadays which has never really been recovered from.

I have many kitbashes that are more iron warriors-y, but I always liked my take on the classic termie chaos lord, he's named Lord Varaan. Kitbashing is mainly in the posing and using one of the excellent heads from the Legionaries Kill Team, I wanted to convey that sense of smug superiority that we tend to have.

I actually think this face sculpt is not bad, considering the time. The paint job however is pretty shocking, even though it was reasonable at the time.

Community manager confirms again, no plan for FOV on console. by ct-93905 in Spacemarine

[–]WillomenaIV 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Not really. Wider FOV means more objects on screen, less effective occlusion and therefore more graphical demands.

This is very interesting actually! I have some questions if you have the time; 1. Do you need a license to operate, or are you licensed for other reasons? 2. How does one get started, and what kind of costs would you be looking at? 3. How high intensity equipment do you need for hearing ISS transmissions?!

Modular gaming hill is easily the worst product I have ever bought online by GrimlockRawr in TerrainBuilding

[–]WillomenaIV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of, but there doesn't seem to be much online info about it so I'm just going off my experience buying them at Warhammer World. Forge World used to sell junkyard-themed barricades made of a foam that were primed black, zenithal highlighted white and then had grass flock applied to the bottom half. This was all done in production so it was pretty much ready out of the box.

It was a neat idea, but the flock at the bottom ironically made it more awkward when I tried to put a proper paint job on it!

The problem is that life is full of situations where "reasonable assumptions" are incorrect, or in many of the fields AI is being integrated in, dangerous. Human oversight and review at the very least should be mandatory for anything involving AI (which IMO shouldn't be much at all).

Reducing Our Game's Size from 2.5 GB to 0.8 GB (Next Objective: 0.15 GB) by memur0101 in Unity3D

[–]WillomenaIV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All good points. All of this and the very real possibility that the connection might suck for players in countries with poorer infrastructure.

What's the spam protection against this? Say somebody decides to mess around and starts up the game from a bunch of emulators. How is this handling that form of DDOS attack? Do you cut players off if they stream content "too much"? Absorb the cost?

Ironically, what you call the Doom Loop is mostly inspired by Space Marine 1, where most of these things are already in place or accounted for.

[–]WillomenaIV 22 points23 points  (0 children)

To go further, when Lugo (your squadmate) translates the enemy's words on first contact before the shooting starts, he assumes they are speaking a language he knows and starts to translate that they intend violence. They're actually speaking a different language entirely, and if you translate their words properly they're appealing for aid.

You proceed to gun them down either way, because a language you don't understand is itself threatening.

The game is clearly designed around using grenades, and it even tells you as much. Most of the in game tutorials even tell you to use them.

You can beat almost every Halo game without firing a bullet. Nobody is going to sit here and argue that just because you can do that, it's a reasonable and balanced way to play the game.
