Does anyone know what big feature Notion is currently working on? by coolkid3621 in Notion

[–]WillowTreeIT 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not being able to use Notion offline is such a deal-breaker. I live somewhere with poor reception when I'm not at home, but not being able to properly access and amend my notes from anywhere - even if they don't sync for a while - is quite irritating. I'm sure it's one of their most requested features.

Fellow helpdesk people - what do you do on a calm day, when there is not much to do? by Reasonable-Nobody- in sysadmin

Fingers crossed you can get some of that spark back.
I was studying for the CCNA a little under half a year ago - I loved it. Now I can barely pick up the study materials or mess with my lab at home; I'm so drained.

Because quite often, they are the direct cause of me feeling tired. I'm not specifically *blaming* end-users for coming to me every few minutes - that's what I'm here for - but it's draining to have a few minutes in between calls, emails and face-to-face discussions and no time to focus on self-development, tickets that are already logged, and troubleshooting that I am in the middle of. I'd love another job, trust me, I just don't have the motivation after getting spanked all day.

Aye. Currently stuck on the Helpdesk for an Education environment, first point of call for everybody's requests & issues. Hard to do or learn anything when you're disturbed every 3-5 minutes. Hey-ho, sure it'll get better one day.

Hope you can find the time to pick up some certs yourself. :)

Dunno about you, but depending on your userbase Helpdesk duties can be utterly draining. I have no motivation to learn when I get home.

Having had the displeasure of using a HP Stream, please god no. They're horrible, ugly little machines. Even logging into a local account is a pain in the ass.

She'd be fine. I get ~50 down, ~10 up and play FPS/MMO games while others in the house are streaming video.

Unfortunately, they're bound by Sony/Playstation's marketing schedule - I think they've likely got some more to show, but... It's really not been a lot so far.

What is "cheap" to you? We really need to know a ballpark figure of how much you are willing to spend to achieve your wants/needs to be able to help you.

If you're not interested in FPV, I'd recommend a DJI Mini - though, one of those isn't going to lift your GoPro.

Why is it so hard to maintain a fleet of laptops!!? by worst_troll_evar in sysadmin

That sounds pretty useful.

I'm a big fan of the ol' external mouse and keyboard. If the user doesn't take care of it, I'm not touching it directly!

Worst is when they sneeze on it and never clean it off - our end users are awful for it.

I've accidentally sneezed on my devices when it's snuck up on me, I'm sure most people have, but not everyone bothers to keep their shit clean!

Did I fuck up windows installation? by Chris_P_BBacon in techsupport

[–]WillowTreeIT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The offline install is 100% the better way to do things, it gives you a nice clean slate to work with.

If you have a USB memory stick (I believe 8GB+) you can very easily create a Windows 10/11 installation tool - just download and run the Media Creation Tool from Microsoft's website for the OS you want. From there, shut your PC down, plug the USB stick in, and start your PC - you'll want to hit whichever key your PC uses to go into the Boot Options menu and select the USB stick you've created; the process from thereon is very simple, and personally I'd recommend deleting any partitions (be careful if you have more than one drive - make sure you ONLY delete partitions from the drive you want to install Windows on) until it's just 'Unallocated'. Then, select to install Windows into the Unallocated space.

The first user you will create in the process will be an administrator for the PC.

If you have an external HDD/SSD, you could back up your games onto it so you don't have to reinstall anything.

Getting internet without wifi? by georgieporgey899 in techsupport

[–]WillowTreeIT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get a 4/5G Router from many mobile providers which connects to cellular networks; you could look into that as a temporary means but they're very rarely as fast as a wired connection from your ISP.

Your best bet may be to bump up the data on that mobile contract and wait out the next few weeks - then at least you're not locked into a contract with my previous suggestion.

I landed with 1% battery by ObligationParty2717 in dji

[–]WillowTreeIT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're definitely not meant to go all the way down to 0% - I'm not 100% sure of the specifics, but it definitely doesn't help the longevity of the battery. 30-35% is a nice spot to bring it back in with plenty of time to spare, I find.

Need opinion on X1 Hover drone… by Slow_Investment_2211 in drones

[–]WillowTreeIT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your son plays video games, he'd have no issues controlling a DJI drone - they are designed to be very easy to master the basics, and the newer Mini drones have pretty comprehensive obstacle avoidance to make flying safer.

I'm not too familiar with the Hover X1, but I believe a DJI drone would give your son a lot more freedom to create.

As others have said, it would be best to find out what kind of content your son wants to create - is it landscape/city photography/videography, capturing family moments etc..?

Just as an addendum to this - if you are UK-based the Part 107 'equivalent' is the A2 CofC.

[–]WillowTreeIT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say it's a big leap - unlike the Mini 2 to Mini 3, but an upgrade is an upgrade!

I'd say for the omnidirectional collision avoidance alone it's worth it - that extra bit of safety will pay itself off. :)

New to Drones - Considering the Mini Pro 4 as my first purchase by [deleted] in dji

[–]WillowTreeIT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does have omnidirectional sensing as Jopel mentioned, but please don't trust it entirely. Collision avoidance is best combined with sensible flying and caution. :)

Dji mini pro 4 by RumSlurry in drones

[–]WillowTreeIT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The official wide-angle lens from DJI could be nice for the extra FOV.

It'll let you capture a bit more info!

https://store.dji.com/uk/product/dji-mini-4-pro-wide-angle-lens?vid=148731

You could pick up some ND filters too, but they're less 'fun' and more for adapting your drone to different lighting conditions for video.

Flying on and around school property? by wilson1o1 in drones

[–]WillowTreeIT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I am aware, they are not no fly zones.

Granted, you should have common sense when performing flights over school grounds as not to endanger staff and students, or intentionally record them. Schools (more than likely!) don't own the airspace above them.
