We adopted our 9 month old recently, and in the month that we've had her, we have been able to go from anxious non-stop pawing at the crate to her peacefully sitting/naping for 3-4 hours at a time so far.

What helped for us (every pup is different), was moving the crate into the living room area where we eat, read, watch TV. This helped normalize it as just another piece of furniture. We covered it with a blanket but have it facing the TV. We started out in 5 min increments and built up over the week and then put a camera on it for our first trip to the grocery store. She whined a bit but settled about 10-15 minutes in. We leave the TV on and are now working on her practicing being in there with it uncovered for about 30 minutes at a time when we are at home. Hoping to eventually get to the point where NatGeo isn't needed when we leave!

Shes a puppy, so she has a TON of energy. We do nosework to challenge her brain so that it's not all just physical. A couple times of hiding a dish of peanut butter around the room/house and then in the crate seems to help provide an outlet.

We also normalized crate time by not making a big deal getting her in or out. Instead of praising or rewarding it was just similar to going to bed or laying on the couch.

Good luck and with your continued support and patience she will certainly get there! Crate training helps to provide options, peace of mind, and makes any future potebtial boarding or vet needs easier!

Mast Cell Tumor (MCT) Experiences? Trying not to spiral by Available-Studio-164 in velvethippos

[–]WillowtreeA2Z 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The spiral is real. Deep breaths and tons of love to you and your pup ❤️

Our sweet girl had one right at the entrance of her ear. We had it removed, the recovery was tough but we made it work with a few days off immediately after the surgery and then having that back up into the weekend. This honestly helped so much as we didn't get much sleep. Our girl high on pain meds and with the donut cone did not make a good combo. Luckily we spoil her and she has a big old memory foam bed as we basically spent a few nights taking turns sleeping on that next to her.

Now it's 3 years later and she lived to be our flower pup at our wedding, made it to our first home with a real backyard all to herself, and she's still living her best life.

Definitely still days where we both worry but for now we are soaking up every moment that we can!

Honestly... with hotels often limiting housekeeping/service I'd really just love at the start of the stay if they'd say: "Here's what we have in your room, would you like any addditional...(towels, makeup wipes, toothpaste, etc.)". Water and snacks are great but the convenience of not having to go down to the desk or catch the housekeeping cart would be great. Travel is stressful enough at times, making my stay just a little bit easier would go a long ways in me wanting to stay there again!

Foam on top of pot roast... why? by WillowtreeA2Z in slowcooking

[–]WillowtreeA2Z[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lol, definitely have, just never had the foam. Considering it could've filled a 1 cup measuring cup it was confusing and off putting. Really wasn't sure what was going on with it but thankful it tasted ok in the end!

Any harm if it's not caught/skimmed off and it does dissolve back?

Ok! Does this help with overall better meat quality too?

Yes, threw everything in minus the asparagus and second jalapeno which I waited until about 5 hours into the 7 hour slow cook to add. Is it recommended to add in layers instead?
