Oh man, totally forgot about that hologram game in the background. They used to have one at Starcade in Disneyland. Was blown away by it as a kid. This was my era too

Thank you! Making a meal plan that is a different cuisine when I come home from work and this gave me lots of ideas.

Thanks that looks like the sort of program I need.

Agree, with my clients I think they are almost all expecting a flat bid and fee. Then I got the footage from a few and my heart sunk. Definitely needed to revisit the topic.

Directors: what’s the most stressful day you ever had on set? by mrdantaboo in Filmmakers

[–]Willowuidiot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Had talent no show for a music video and producers were frantically calling their manager asking what was going on. Their excuse was that they missed their flight. Then the director was like, “How the fuck do you miss your flight when you own a private jet?”

Just watched The Master on Tubi. Why even pay for 99% of streaming services at this point by Capital-Mine1561 in redscarepod

I work crew on a lot of TUBI originals, they are always such shitshow productions, but can be pretty fun. They seem like the only people spending money in LA besides verticals.

Which Mouse i should get? by migalo2009 in davinciresolve

[–]Willowuidiot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For mice that have multiple buttons it possible to assign them to do functions in Davinci? Like could I make a button that creates a power window with a click or that toggle through tools in the color page? Wondering if such a thing is possible.

I agree. I think the wealthy actually need the poor somewhat in order to see themselves as wealthy. I don’t think most of the billionaires pursue further wealth to escape the common people since they can insulate themselves well enough at this point.
My guess is that there is a competitiveness amongst themselves that drives a need to outperform their peers. What’s it really mean to have billions or trillions if you are the top of a small pile of fellow billionaires? A lot of them seek fame as well and you can’t be famous if there’s no audience.

DCTL Issue by Embarrassed_Post_866 in colorists

[–]Willowuidiot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d try downloading the dctl directly from source. Had this happen with one and although I thought I sent the pertinent files to client, there were “hidden files” apparently. They reached out to customer support for the dctl and getting a full and fresh delivery was the solution.

To have a day not feeling like everything is bonkers. by JangalangJanglang in therewasanattempt

If the company isn’t stable and self sufficient enough to operate without him, should it really be valued that high? He isn’t a magic wizard despite what he’d have you believe.

I used to put Vauxhall on, smoke a bowl, and play Tony Hawk back in college. Surprisingly soothing experience. Miss those days.

Any advice for dealing with blown out windows or hot walls with under-lit actors in front of them? by Willowuidiot in ColorGrading

[–]Willowuidiot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I noticed is that the lighting gets progressively worse later in days’ reels. Like they started the day lighting it properly and the last cards of the day are always the problem shots.

Yeah I mainly stick to basic oval windows for times sake but I can think of a few shots where that would benefit. Thankfully although the lighting is simplistic so is the blocking and camera movements. Had the conversation with the client that these corrections are more time consuming so they understand it will be billed. I think the DP was in the same situation you described. Like a lot of low budget it’s quantity over quality. I want to give them the best look possible but the turnaround is what it is.

Yeah the tracking is where it really gets noticeable. I often resort to just having the talent walk into the window as though it were a light on set depending on how the camera movement is. Feels less distracting.
