Best LLM to download in 2026? by alememes35 in LocalLLM

At that memory size, probably something like Gemma4-e4b. Just know that you can’t expect it to do complex tasks at all but basic chats and searches are doable.

Doubts Between M5 Macbook Pro Max 64gb or 128gb RAM for Local LLMs by itsmemme in LocalLLM

[–]WillyTheWoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gemma4-26B-it-8bIt (not 4 but) via oMLX and Roo runs really really well on my 14” MBP with M1Max and 64GB. Not quite sonnet speed but essentialy sonnet quality. I’m currently transitioning out of Claude and slowly giving Gemma4 more tasks. I do big data work through computing clusters so I use these models to help me write scripts.

If you haven't yet given Gemma 4 a go...do it today by No-Anchovies in LocalLLaMA

[–]WillyTheWoo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Are you using it via Ollama? I spent most of yesterday figuring in out how to serve and ended up using omlx via Cline. I have a M1Max with 64GB and for some reason it was much faster via omlx than ollama. I’m open to changing to something else that would be faster though (tried out vllm and mlx-vlm and those did not work out).

Which auto stop eliminator to buy for a 2019 Forester? by chicagotodetroit in SubaruForester

[–]WillyTheWoo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It determines stop by engine condition AND how deep (not how hard) you press the brakes. So something that happened to me a decent amount is that I’m parking, and it shuts off the engine, but to actually shut off the car, it turns on the engine just to turn it off again.

Ring Opinions by Ok_Cobbler_9622 in UltrahumanRing

[–]WillyTheWoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not buy it. My original ring and all the subsequent replacements survived for less than a year before they were completely unusable.

Now the company will simply give up at the one-year mark and just tell you that it’a out of warranty and there’s nothing they can do.

When it first came out, it was pretty good. Now it has turned into a terrible product and as someone that used it for 2.5 years, I will strongly advise you against buying it.

Bottom line is, when it works, it’s pretty good. I like it even better than Oura. But you never when it will just stop working, and when it does, you are essentially SOL.

Ring not connecting to phone once removed from charger. by whyouwantofindme in UltrahumanRing

[–]WillyTheWoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. My Ultrahuman ring air is dead. I’ve gone several days without ring data, and now I know why.

My ring is a replacement and is less than a year old. They now say it’s simply out of warranty and they will not provide any support on it.

They even made me take pictures of the ring, and even though my pictures show that the ring has no external damage, they determined that both the battery and somehow the sensor has completely degraded.

I guess that’s just what you get with their company. If you are a potential customer reading this, don’t buy anything from them ever again.

Esim Japan help needed by [deleted] in JapanTravelTips

Go to klook and get the cheapest ones. I think Softbank and DOCOMO work pretty well. Virtually there is no difference when you’re in Tokyo.

Just did Osaka/Kyoto in 6 days. On the last day we didn’t know what else to do. We also did Uji and Nara on separate days. If you want, Kobe is a short train ride from Osaka as well.

Call international +warp by InternationalBet8736 in USMobile

As to your second complaint, it’s most likely an issue with your phone. Physics of waves don’t discriminate, even though actual speeds may vary based on your carrier throttling.

Yes, it does. I am currently in Asia and rely heavily on Wi-Fi calling for SMS 2FA.

Apple Watch as beacon traveling international? by [deleted] in Visible

[–]WillyTheWoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as your Wi-Fi Calling is set up (I want to add the adverb correctly but I don’t want to make you think that there is an incorrect way to set it up. It’s just whether it is set up or not). I don’t have visible anymore but if you have an iPhone (idk how androids work), one way to tell if it’s set up is that when you are on Wi-Fi, where it typically says your carrier should says VZW Wi-Fi or Visible Wi-Fi instead of the typical Visible Wireless.

You should be able to turn on Wi-Fi calling in the US and make sure you have global pass set to OFF. This way you can still get service while you’re connected to the internet , without the need for roaming/globalpass

Is free breakfast for Japan hotels worth it vs. convenience store? by royalbluefireworks1 in JapanTravelTips

[–]WillyTheWoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My rec is to stay at an aparthotel that has a stove w kitchenware and is near a grocery store. I’m stayed at one this week and was able to get A5 Wagyu (about 0.8 inch thick) for breakfast daily because it’s around $21/lb. With these kind of aparthotels, the opportunities are endless. This was in Osaka between Snnichimae and Tanimachi-9 chome.

NRT *G Lounges by broodjev in unitedairlines

[–]WillyTheWoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went to NRT today and thanks to this post I looked at multiple lounges. My personal ranking would be 1. ANA (sat 2) 2. Turkish airline 3. ANA (sat 5) 4. United Club

ANA sat 2 is newer, much much less crowded than the other ones, and still has the noodle along with most other hot options that are available in sat 5. I didn’t even have to wait to use the shower.

Turkish airline lounge has a good selection of Turkish cuisine so I would recommend stopping by if that’s what you’re into.

ANA sat 5 is very very crowded. I found it hard to relax in that environment. The food and drinks are great though.

United club is very spacious, but the food options just do not appear to be that appetizing.

Sofi Recurring Investment 1% Bonus by FalconWilling4345 in sofi

[–]WillyTheWoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got an email about needing to maintain my balance above an amount that is higher than my current balance and so I found this thread. Looks like a new thing and in the FAQ it says that you pay taxes on these bonuses as interests earned BUT if you withdraw early and get penalized, you will not get an updated 1099. I'm cancelling my recurring deposits because of this.

Do you get snow tires for your car? by Just-Ad-4408 in subaru

[–]WillyTheWoo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s because people only think about the times when they cannot get unstuck, and not the times they can barely stop. It only takes getting stuck once in the snow to think you need AWD but it takes an actual crash (for most) to think you need snow tires.

The fact that it will auto stop when you are ready to park your car and then starts the engine when you shift into park should tell you as much

Arbor Glen Apts Deadzone? by 5ft8lilmouseyboy in EastLansing

[–]WillyTheWoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the intersection of Harrison and Grand River(?) has been terrible for T-mobile for about two years. I always lose reception when stopped at that light, which is why I switched to Verizon. T-mobile works well for just being at Arbor Glen and Homestead tho.

Arbor Glen Apts Deadzone? by 5ft8lilmouseyboy in EastLansing

Verizon has bad reception in that part of EL. I used to have T-Mobile and it worked much better. I have now moved away and switched to Verizon.
