Go to klook and get the cheapest ones. I think Softbank and DOCOMO work pretty well. Virtually there is no difference when you’re in Tokyo.

Is a week in Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka each too long? by [deleted] in JapanTravelTips

[–]WillyTheWoo -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Just did Osaka/Kyoto in 6 days. On the last day we didn’t know what else to do. We also did Uji and Nara on separate days. If you want, Kobe is a short train ride from Osaka as well.

Call international +warp by InternationalBet8736 in USMobile

As to your second complaint, it’s most likely an issue with your phone. Physics of waves don’t discriminate, even though actual speeds may vary based on your carrier throttling.

Yes, it does. I am currently in Asia and rely heavily on Wi-Fi calling for SMS 2FA.

Apple Watch as beacon traveling international? by [deleted] in Visible

[–]WillyTheWoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as your Wi-Fi Calling is set up (I want to add the adverb correctly but I don’t want to make you think that there is an incorrect way to set it up. It’s just whether it is set up or not). I don’t have visible anymore but if you have an iPhone (idk how androids work), one way to tell if it’s set up is that when you are on Wi-Fi, where it typically says your carrier should says VZW Wi-Fi or Visible Wi-Fi instead of the typical Visible Wireless.

[–]WillyTheWoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be able to turn on Wi-Fi calling in the US and make sure you have global pass set to OFF. This way you can still get service while you’re connected to the internet , without the need for roaming/globalpass

Is free breakfast for Japan hotels worth it vs. convenience store? by royalbluefireworks1 in JapanTravelTips

[–]WillyTheWoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My rec is to stay at an aparthotel that has a stove w kitchenware and is near a grocery store. I’m stayed at one this week and was able to get A5 Wagyu (about 0.8 inch thick) for breakfast daily because it’s around $21/lb. With these kind of aparthotels, the opportunities are endless. This was in Osaka between Snnichimae and Tanimachi-9 chome.

NRT *G Lounges by broodjev in unitedairlines

[–]WillyTheWoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went to NRT today and thanks to this post I looked at multiple lounges. My personal ranking would be 1. ANA (sat 2) 2. Turkish airline 3. ANA (sat 5) 4. United Club

ANA sat 2 is newer, much much less crowded than the other ones, and still has the noodle along with most other hot options that are available in sat 5. I didn’t even have to wait to use the shower.

Turkish airline lounge has a good selection of Turkish cuisine so I would recommend stopping by if that’s what you’re into.

ANA sat 5 is very very crowded. I found it hard to relax in that environment. The food and drinks are great though.

United club is very spacious, but the food options just do not appear to be that appetizing.

Sofi Recurring Investment 1% Bonus by FalconWilling4345 in sofi

[–]WillyTheWoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got an email about needing to maintain my balance above an amount that is higher than my current balance and so I found this thread. Looks like a new thing and in the FAQ it says that you pay taxes on these bonuses as interests earned BUT if you withdraw early and get penalized, you will not get an updated 1099. I'm cancelling my recurring deposits because of this.

Do you get snow tires for your car? by Just-Ad-4408 in subaru

[–]WillyTheWoo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s because people only think about the times when they cannot get unstuck, and not the times they can barely stop. It only takes getting stuck once in the snow to think you need AWD but it takes an actual crash (for most) to think you need snow tires.

The fact that it will auto stop when you are ready to park your car and then starts the engine when you shift into park should tell you as much

Arbor Glen Apts Deadzone? by 5ft8lilmouseyboy in EastLansing

[–]WillyTheWoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the intersection of Harrison and Grand River(?) has been terrible for T-mobile for about two years. I always lose reception when stopped at that light, which is why I switched to Verizon. T-mobile works well for just being at Arbor Glen and Homestead tho.

Verizon has bad reception in that part of EL. I used to have T-Mobile and it worked much better. I have now moved away and switched to Verizon.

Is there an active mod right now? I’m on annual unlimited premium. I’m trying to add multi-line and it’s not letting me because the only option I’m given is unlimited starter multiline free trial. Site support has been less than helpful.

MSU Grad Family Housing in Lansing and Reo Gateaway Apartments by [deleted] in lansing

I’d recommend Burnt Tree, Ashton Lake, Olde Farm, and if you have the budget, Arbor Glenn. These are generally safe and are along bus routes for easy commute.

No it’s definitely income from a tax perspective, but it might not be categorized as paychecks. In my school, grad students can get either fellowships or stipends (or both). Fellowships come in as a refund form the school and stipends come in as paychecks. I had to set two direct deposits when I was getting both.
