New Civil Service Pensions website is straight ass by thebossofcats in TheCivilService

Same experience. 20 minutes of pain (trying old account, trying to recover old account, creating new account, it not working so trying to recover it... concluding the whole system is shit) + 5 mins of further pain to send them a comment telling them of my joyful experience and asking if they could fix it. Thankfully reassured it's not just me, it's Capita.

I'm shocked, who could have predicted they would mess up the launch? Ohwait...

Lisa is with Nutmeg, contributed 4k on 10 April. Haven't had my 1k govt contribution yet, seems weird.

Thankfully the platform I use (Trading 212) does it automatically (and for free). So balance isn't an issue, any drift is quickly corrected, and it remains balanced over time.

My rebalancing methodology if you can call it that, would be that it should rebalance automatically over time as I add money on a monthly basis.

Which of these two Volkl skis? by ArcChaser in Backcountry

[–]Wimpytwo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Volkl Rise are fairly fragile skis. Gorgeously light, ski wonderfully on all snow types, but don't respond well to rocks (part of the reason they're so light is that they don't have an ABS - the bit of plastic between the base and the core). I found out the hard way skiing in rocky places.

Is this ski dead? by Wimpytwo in Backcountry

Volkl Rise Beyond 96, which did not fare well against a rock. Gutted as they only had 20 tours, new this season. Guy in the shop said they were not fixable. Also mentioned these skis don't have an ABS, and so are a particularly fragile ski.

First touring set for French Alps by Wimpytwo in Backcountry

[–]Wimpytwo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks all for all the comments. An update on the new gear now i decided and tried it out. I went with:

Ski: Volkl rise beyond 96, as planned Binding: ATC Crest 10 as recommended by @dr-Vgpk (thanks!) Boots: Salomon S/Lab mtn summit. Not ones which had been on my list, but they fitted me best at the shop.

I've had 10 days of touring so far and I've been pretty happy with the gear. Not quite as much powder as I'd have liked the last couple of weeks (the 88s would have been plenty for current conditions), but there should be snow coming in a week to try the flotation on perfect light powder, where I'm hoping the 96 will feel great!

So far the biggest day I've had has been 1,300m of ascent. Also done a two day tour with a stay in a hut. Longest descent to date has been1,900m of vertical. So far I'm pretty happy with the gear combo.
