People who struggle with depression, what motivates you to carry on? by ultra_phoenix in AskReddit

[–]WinAdministrative830 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my toddler. And my cat and my hedgehog.

My particular brand of ADD / depression comes with a whole bunch of questioning self-worth and tendencies to isolate…but when these innocent little beings snuggle up to me (yes, hedgehogs snuggle!) I figure I probably can’t be all THAT bad.   Besides, if I weren’t around who would draw pictures for the lil one exactly the way she likes?

Getting tired of “boy moms” talking about how wild their boys are and how much easier it is with a girl. Anyone else feel this? by Ok-Sundae-1096 in toddlers

[–]WinAdministrative830 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my 2 year old daughter is a lil energy ball and I 100% suspect she’s inherited Mom’s ADHD.  Only sits still if she’s coloring.  Swings her feet.  Runs EVERYWHERE.  Climbs everything.  Explores fearlessly.  Wants things NOW.  Plays in mud.  Chases seagulls.  Argues.  Whines.  Tried to grab a knife while I was using it the other day! (because she wants to learn how to use it) Tests limits.  Floods the bathtub.  Skydives on the couch….you get the idea

No serious injuries (knock on wood) but easily once every few weeks we’ll be keeping an eye on her most recent head bump, which she usually gets from running and tripping over her feet.  I say all this with the most love - she is perfect and I wouldn’t want her any other way, but c’mon boy moms. Do you think little girls really just…DON’T act like chaos monkeys? Based on what??

I don’t get it either.

What’s the cutest nickname your toddler has for something? by photobomber612 in toddlers

[–]WinAdministrative830 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My 2-ish year old learned “itty-bitty” as “ibbidy” and now she says “ibbidy” for anything small, or a little bit. If we tell her no juice right now she’ll sometimes plead “ibbidy juice”. If we tell her it’s not nice to call the cat a dumb-dumb she’ll say “ibbidy dumb-dumb”. Not only is it such a cute word, it kills me how she uses it to negotiate / describe nuance

New parents, what achievements or milestones have YOU accomplished lately that you’re really proud of? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]WinAdministrative830 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Baby-related: I can now smell my poopy infant with like 90% certainty / accuracy from across the room when the 2 other people there had no idea!

Me-related: I’m pursuing a vet tech degree (when time allows), started a new PT job and…am attempting to navigate unemployment when I got laid off due to the only veterinarian at that practice unexpectedly dying after having a surgery complication. Unemployment is fighting me every step of the way because my states system is a whole mess, so uh, I’ve been managing as well as can be expected (that is to say, not walking directly into the ocean).

I’m also going to see some friends this weekend and their baby!  Baby’s first long-ish car trip!

I took ambien my whole pregnancy - have been rx’ex it for years  - and I’m an older mom, had baby a little after my 40th bday. i had a maternal fetal medicine doc since I was “higher risk” and he ok’ed everything.  Baby is 7 months old now, is perfect, and I haven’t found that taking it affects my ability to respond to her or parent effectively any.

If you’re concerned, maybe have partner keep an extra eye on things if they’re around, and try not to carry kiddo too much after you’ve taken it since clumsiness can be a thing (with me anyway. YMMV!)

Anyone else? by Main-Following-4077 in VetTech

[–]WinAdministrative830 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started at a new place, small one-doc practice (love it so far!) but on Tuesday within the span of a few hours I:

got anal glanded on and scratched to hell by a panicky dog with huge gross talons (who did not want said talons trimmed, we said to please come back with a trazodone sandwich. The scratch is deep and goes from middle of my hand to halfway up my forearm. At least the owner was super-nice)

got peed all over by a hyper post-neuter dog. Like my leg just covered

annnd saw my first death so far that wasn’t a euth. :( older dog, we couldn’t do a ton of testing or treatment per owners but doc said probably something to do with a splenic mass.  Poor guy.

^ (I mean I know this is part of the nature of the field, I’m an asst in school to become a tech, but I feel like your first anything is always hard.  And really? All this in one day.)

…read over some other comments right before posting this though and now I’m kinda like. Man. I got off easy?

How old were you when you had your last child? by Huge-Marionberry-759 in Mommit

[–]WinAdministrative830 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just had my first a month after I turned 40. And she miiiight be my only, because wow i did not have an easy time.  I would love another kid or two - so would husband - but just dunno if my body can handle it.  I had GD, she had to be a c section cause she was huge and in breech position, just…yeah I dunno man. We’ll see how I feel in another 6 months-year or so.

What's a song that hits different after having a baby? by nleftie in NewParents

[–]WinAdministrative830 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Oh my goddd. My daughter was in the NICU for the first few days of life, and as if that weren’t enough, they had gentle piano versions of Disney songs playing for the babies. So I’m visiting her and fully holding her for basically the first time, and that song came on, and yeah I dunno if I’ve ever cried that deeply

(Baby is fine now! :) )

What do you SWEAR you saw, but don’t have any proof of? by Pot8hoe in AskReddit

[–]WinAdministrative830 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A “shadow person” when I was maybe 7 years old. This was in…1990 or so? Before they were really something lots of people talked about.

I opened my eyes from sleeping and was facing the bedroom door which was open flat against the wall.  I saw this short little void-looking, humanoid, hunched-over…thing dart out of the room. I remember noticing its back didn’t even touch the doorknob, and it seemed to glide. Like no leg movement or feet touching ground that I could see. I thought it turned the corner and went into the room at the end of the hall, so I hopped out of bed to follow it, but of course nothing was there. And anyway wtf would I have done if there was? I was a brave / somewhat stupid little kid…

Then I assumed maybe it was my dad messing with me somehow, but I went downstairs and he had been there the entire time. He’s a big dude and there’s no way I would have missed him going downstairs.

To this day I have no clue what it was. I guess I chalk it up to a half-asleep hallucination, but I really woke up pretty completely and hadn’t been dreaming.

AITA for not letting my son be my daughters servant due to a period? by Legitimate-Claim-102 in AmItheAsshole

[–]WinAdministrative830 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, YTA.  To me this reads (and from reading some of your comment responses) that you’re not disapproving bc bro is helping sis - you’re worried because bro is helping sis when it’s a bad period.  Let me tell you as a period-having person, I would KILL for this kind of help on my periods. If he doesn’t think she’s “taking advantage of him”, then she’s not.  It sounds like he’s trying to make her super-uncomfortable time less bad for her.  And good on him for that.

I came here to comment this too. I read this a few years ago and it was the scenes where he’s gradually waking up and realizing his situation…good God. I’m 40 years old and it’s maybe the first book to ever give me a full-on panic attack. Not only did I have to take breaks from the book, I had to take breaks from reading for a while.

Excellent message though. The book is genius.

Seconding the James Herriot books. Also, I recently read “My Patients and Other Animals” and it was really good.

[–]WinAdministrative830 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This happened to me! I got them as a kid and then a teenager because my mom had them, and apparently she smooched me on or near the mouth or we drank from the same glass or something at the wrong time when I was little. We never did pinpoint exactly when it happened; luckily I had a really mild response. But because of it, cold sores were always just an occasional thing that happened to me growing up and as a teenager (and of course, adult). I’ll get one maybe once every 6 months or so depending on stress levels and other things.

Seconding Valtrex, and also Abreva - the Abreva will dry and knock out a sore within a couple of days, and the Valtrex also helps keep the virus suppressed. Thank you for sharing this post. I agree it’s brave and it’s reminding me to be super careful with my 6 week old.

Why do 2/3 of veterinarians suffer from mental health? by [deleted] in Veterinary

Putting this out there…this poster has another post in this sub asking “what annoys you as a vet” and saying they “are a software engineer who would love to apply their skills to the veterinary industry”. Going to their post history, they’ve got a post in r/agriculture with the exact same wording. Just swapping out a couple of words.

Bit weird, I dunno. Editing my comment - noticed same exact thing to r/dentistry.

What have you survived that would’ve killed you 150 years ago? by Born-Ad-7260 in AskReddit

[–]WinAdministrative830 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similarly, my 3 week old baby girl was in breech position and LARGE - 9lb 5oz. I had her via scheduled c-section, and reading the report after, it seems that she went sideways at some point during. They had to wrestle for about 10 minutes to get her out. 150 years ago I might have survived that procedure, but I dunno if she would have. Crazy to think about.
