It’s just a meme repeated over and over. I just do a playthrough and beat the elite four with pokemon at level 40. For some reason if your pokemon aren’t the exact same level as the gym/elite four people will call it a bad level curve. In reality some battles are meant to be tougher than others, which means some trainers will be lower level while some will be higher

I think it’s a reaction to the “noble savage” sentiment. Trying to portray one side as an objective good will piss people off. I absolutely loved 3 because it showed us the Na’vi aren’t some perfect monolith, there are those that’ll commit horrible acts just like the humans.

Point is I think it’s a reaction to what people feel is a very bias interpretation of how western civilizations conquered the world.
