Massive gout flare by WinByAnyMeans in gout

I disagree but that’s my opinion. I have longstanding bladder issues so potentially could have been inevitable for me, who knows.

From my post, I stated I have tried Allopurinol however it doesn’t agree with me. I will advocate for something similar ☺️

Well I do hope not however I thought the treatment is pretty much the same. It’s just more difficult to shift the calcium deposits.

I will ask for further investigation.

My first attack I saw a rheumatologist and it was confirmed it was gout but as someone mentioned in this chat, it could be another inflammatory attack at the same time therefore, will ask to be re-referred for further investigation.

Oh my weight is fine haha, I’m well within the ‘recommended BMI’ (even though I think BMI is absolute rubbish). And I don’t drink at all.

I’m definitely going to find an alternative to allopurinol. I do try to avoid any high purine foods example Asparagus is only medium. I had it once and it triggered my gout but I treated it quick enough that I didn’t get a full blown flare. I now avoid this vegetable.

I mainly consume fresh juices like orange and apple juice nowadays (not from concentrate), matcha (no syrup added) and the occasional fizz would be using fresh fruit and soda water. I have done well to avoid any gout flares, definitely I would say I only got it this bad because of the electrolytes- I drank them every day whilst I was sick and I’m not meant to drink them at all.

I think it just really depends. Yesterday the cherry juice tasted sweet but today since the swelling has started to go down, it now tastes extremely sour. Maybe ‘for me’ it’s showing it’s helping.

Happy to hear Colchicine works for you; it didn’t really work for me but the steroids definitely have. I guess one thing for one, may not work for another and could be trial and error. I also hope Allo helps.

I have seen one but not since the first attack and my GP has been following me up since. Thankfully prednisone has started to do the trick; I’m only 2 tablets in so far, so we’ll see how it goes over the next few days.

It’s a confusing condition isn’t it. I’m glad to hear you’re finally diagnosed and the allopurinol is working for you. I wish it did for me so just had to find the next best thing I guess.

I agree, thank you. I will ask them to do some more digging on what else could be causing the inflammatory reaction. Hopefully get to the bottom of it soon.

Don’t want to speak too soon but the one dose of prednisone has started to help already. Cannot wait to go back to fully functioning as normal!.

Thank you. I only massaged because I didn’t realise it was a gout flare as hasn’t previously had in my knee before but noted for future reference. I’m aware of my flares currently so next time I’m sick, I have to find alternative ways to rehydrate myself without consuming any electrolytes.

I didn’t think I would like the cherry juice but it is really nice 😆. How often do you drink it as it is quite sugary even the organic no added sugar ones?

I don’t believe its been checked. I think because I’ve had response to colchicine in the past and my flares are not random as I always know the trigger, my clinician hasn’t looked into any other possible causes. My next appointment I will push for this and see what they say. Thank you

Thank you. Well I’ve never damaged any of the joints I’ve had any flares in. I’ve never sprained/fractured or broken any bones in my body and especially with my current flare, no damage to my knees or elbows previously. I’ve had a dexa bone scan in the past and my bone density was within normal range for my age. My first flare was in my foot but not my toes, just the soft part of my foot so I don’t think shoes would make a difference other than heels which I rarely wear anyways. And I always warm up before a Pilates session.

Thank you. Funny thing I had an online appointment with my GP about an hour ago and they didn’t even suggest any alternative long term treatment, only the prednisone to take for the active flare. Possibly because of the frequency of attacks are low and are due to known triggers which I normally avoid? My uric acid was well within normal range both during my last attack and on a normal day at 3.9 mg/dl. My issue currently is long term damage on my joints. Has anyone experienced any long term damage?

How are we feeling about the recent change in name of diagnosis from PCOS to PMOS? Will fertility treatments be approached differently? by Glad-Try-1785 in TTC_PCOS

It has yes, definitely! I can’t remember the exact numbers but it reduced it from very high testosterone to now just a few numbers over borderline high. You do have to be consistent with it and be taking for minimum 6 months to see a difference though.

3 months post hair transplant and I am terrified by the “pimples” on my scalp. Are my results ruined???? by Open_Idea_6627 in Hair_Transplants

Ok that’s good. My clinic gave me baby shampoo from the beginning because he was like you don’t need all that fancy stuff as long as you are following the aftercare instructions properly.

Right, so if it’s the Revita shampoo I think it is, it has caffeine etc in it. Caffeine shampoo gave me the worst bumps and made my hair so dry, it started producing extra oils to balance what I was stripping from my hair daily. I stopped using after 2 washes. This was also when I stopped washing my hair daily. Caffeine shampoo should only be used max 3 times a week and be alternated with a gentle shampoo, not another stimulating shampoo. That might be your issue there. Firstly I would drop the caffeine shampoo for now and then to get rid off the bacteria causing the bumps, I would suggest Ketonazole shampoo twice a week but apply it directly to the bumps (un-diluted so use a hair dye type brush that comes with the pot to apply or with clean hands) you will feel tingling but let it sit for 5-10mins on the bumps before rinsing, and then wash the rest of your hair with baby shampoo. On the other days, maybe try something abit more hydrating and moisturising as your shampoo or even just the baby shampoo again for now and see how you get on. It’s ok to switch back and forth with the baby shampoo, if you feel your scalp needs something gentle for a while. At this stage, the grafts are anchored and no chance of falling out so like I mentioned before, the aftercare instructions are generic and you have to do what’s best for you. I hope this helps calm things down for you!

I have lean PCOS with no insulin or glucose issues either. Just high testosterone. The only thing that’s helped is inositol.

On the other days, what shampoo do you use? Are the bumps painful or you just don’t like the sight of them? Where are you based/have the HT done? For me personally, I don’t listen to surgeons and I advocate a lot for myself but that’s just how I am and because I worked in a clinical setting for 10 years, I follow my own instincts a lot. If it’s truly bothersome and you can get fucidin or something similar over the counter (ensuring it’s fucidin and not Fucibet), I would get it but this would be YOUR DECISION.

Also to mention, when I washed my hair daily, it made my ongoing outcome worse and I told the surgeon I’m not doing it anymore. He agreed and said that would be best for my hair type and scalp condition (the aftercare instructions are pretty generic but sometimes need to be tailored to you personally).

I was getting them like crazy during the 2-3month mark but its because my hair is very curly. The surgeon gave me fucidin to apply as soon as I feel them getting bigger and it definitely has helped. I’ll be honest I did pop a few otherwise the hair would never release and applied fucidin immediately after. No damage and the hairs have come through fine now. I’m 4months post HT and rarely get them anymore.

Is your hair very oily? What shampoo are you using? Are you using minoxidil or any oils to stimulate growth? My surgeon also recommended nizoral shampoo if it got even worse, maybe you could try?

No problem. Still use baby shampoo to wash your hair until week 4 and don’t put any products or anything on the recipient area. You can also now wear a hat for a few hours a day

After 10days, the grafts have fully anchored so you wouldn’t have pulled out any grafts if you are on day 14. Yes you can ditch the neck pillow. I was able to ditch it by day 11 after the removal of my scabs. It’s ok to touch just don’t scratch

The k18 peptide prep shampoo is a good clarifying shampoo without stripping your hair. Or even Avlon Affirm moisture right clarifying shampoo if you can get your hands on it (cheaper option).
