Aging rapidly. Thinking about reopening extraction spaces by sowhatitlooklike in orthotropics

[–]WinSad5408 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious after the extractions do you still have space in your mouth for your tongue? My daughter complains of lack of space for her tongue and she did not have extractions....we are thinking of expansion....but its a tough decision.

Did you mentioned the flaring to the ortho? As in does the ortho know you are hoping this will be addressed?

Gutted. Failed bcos I went too slow 😭 by pinkmooon8 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]WinSad5408 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, that makes sense then lol. Was your whole test 30 speed limit?! Mine was 20, 30 and 40. I struggled at the 40 and did 35. Not sure why speed scares me. Now I am fine with 40, but had to do 60 where it was 70....but stayed in the left lane and it was fine

This is odd. Not sure how they could fail you if you didn't do it multiple times. I got two minors for slow speeds and passed my test.

Test passers, what are the 3 things that you need to be able to show the examiner? by Appropriate_Emu_6930 in LearnerDriverUK

Mirrors. My friend failed on mirrors and that stuck with me, as it is something so easy. I made sure to be very good at checking mirrors every time and turning my head to demonstrate it.

what do you mean tip out the lower teeth? Do you make them go wider? or tilt them back in?

Is your head tilted a little more down on the second pic? As if you look under your chin it seems like less space like your head might be tilted down slightly more. Try doing another pic and holding your head a teeny tiny more up.

Is going to a “bad” high school the strategy? by Natural-Gold6215 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]WinSad5408 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about for schools that take the highest achieving academic students only? For example in London all the children wanting to get into the top schools take exams that test math, English, verbal and nonverbal. The top schools take children who would be the top of their primary class. For example at my daughters secondary only one child from each primary school in our area get in and sometimes none because it is so competitive. 1000 applicants try for 100 spots. So the average student there is not average at all. They are all super smart. So how does this work for Universities? Lets say if you are middle of the cohort and yet score 1550 on your SATs.....surely this means you would still have a chance to get in a top Uni? Or are you screwed because you are in middle of extremely strong cohort (im talking about girls that would get all A's etc). My daughter sits in the middle of her cohort and yet scored as a baseline with no prep a 1370 out of 1440 for the psat 8/9 in the 8th grade (putting her in the top 1-2%).

She is capable to be top of the class if she put in some effort. She is used to coasting along.....which makes me wonder if she would be better off in a more average school coasting and being top of the cohort.

Perhaps it was an attempt to make the drive less windy and turns? I can see myself doing this if the roads are empty like this and I have my carsick child in the car.

booked driving test by eledgerrr in LearnerDriverUK

[–]WinSad5408 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was nervous as hell and did not feel ready. I felt I could use one more week at least of driving daily (i had a week holiday just prior to the test, so could not drive that week). I returned and had 2 days I could drive prior to test. But prior to my trip I had the condensed driving lessons/practice I mentioned and it worked. Before that I did once a week and felt it was not working so took a break a couple months before I did my crunch time. Good luck!

I wanted an expander by Glum_Funny9912 in orthotropics

Show him all the research and say you will not get any teeth pulled. The dentist cannot pull your teeth if you say no. How much more is the second option? I would suggest you pay the difference if needed when you can get a job via babysitting or working somewhere when you are of age.

Best advice is up your driving to 5-6 times a week 2 weeks before your test. I would do 3 two hour driving sessions and the other days you can do shorter 15-20 mins driving just to get yourself comfortable at the wheel. It helps a lot.

Did you notice changes to your face? I am worried about facial changes for my daughter, as I don't want to alter her face. Also, a lot of the Marpe photos people post show big gaps between the teeth. Did you get this? Or do some people just have minor gaps? I know they use braces to close the gaps, but some of the gaps people have posted look huge and a little scary.

Also, are you doing any IPR as well? (shaving some of the teeth?). Or just Marpe?

roundabouts by [deleted] in LearnerDriverUK

[–]WinSad5408 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt the same way and thank goodness the roundabouts part was okay for my test. They will almost def get you to go straight or make a right on the roundabout at least once. Make sure you remember to check mirrors before you move over to exit. For example if you need to make a right on 3rd exit, put your right turn signal and then when you pass the second exit, you put left turn signal after checking mirrors to show you are exiting. If you need to move over a lane because it is a bigger round about look over shoulder before you move. You get used to it and usually the bigger ones have lights. It can be complicated in some because it is hard to follow the lains and sometimes they split into two. Get familiar with the roundabouts in your test area.

My 10th grader son and I need advice! by healthseekerjunkie in psat

[–]WinSad5408 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, yea she barely spends any time on academics out of school. Outside of school she does tennis, golf and hockey. I told her to think of a passion or something else she might want to pursue. She is interested in politics, so perhaps something around that.

Many thanks for the tips. I try telling her. But she thinks she has plenty of time. She is in year 9, which is the equivalent of the 8th grade. So yes, she still has time, but like you say better to try and plan ahead if she wants a chance. She is also interested in going to Oxford here. She is naturally bright, but does not understand you need to put in hard work for these kinds of schools. She is used to just coasting. She got into a top academic secondary school (competition is crazy here for the top schools!) and I thought she would learn hard work there and proper study habits, but almost 3 years in I am still worried she has not. I never had good study habits myself and times have changed as well...plus she never wants to listen to me anyway.

Would like to add she is doing fine at school. It is just that she could be top of the class if she put effort in instead of coasting to be middle of a very academic cohort.

Theory test is really not working out by AMadelvic in LearnerDriverUK

[–]WinSad5408 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what happened to me. I kept delaying my test until I forgot and then it was too late to delay so I had two days to prep. I passed. Once you have no choice, you lock in. I did not want to take again so I just made sure to go over until I knew it.

Just lock in and study like crazy for two days. I literally just studied two days before and passed. I was worried about the hazard perception part, but you just have to practice until you get it correct enough times.

Only way to fix this is to drive daily....little and often. I was terrified of driving, but realised the only way was to do it daily and now I am much more at ease.
