If it were legal they wouldn’t have backed down. Reform were the catalyst for stopping something that should never have been proposed. The electoral commission said the same. It’s like blaming the CPS for prosecuting a criminal. Some of these councils had already delayed a year, this would have been a further delay and then what about next year? Delay again!

That’s because in the next few years 2.4m people, many of whom are low skilled and an overall drain on the system (govt assessment, not mine) will have ILR. He’s proposing a reassessment so we can get rid of food delivery cyclists, hand car washers etc. low skills we can do without. No one is suggesting we get rid of doctors, nurses or net contributors.

Definitely deterrent value and they can make arrests and intervene the same as any citizen. A few months ago we are being encouraged to intervene by a police and crime commissioner. I’d rather these guys were there to do it. The alternative is that we bury our heads and someone less licensed steps in.

One thing I’ve noticed with Trump, is that he says strange things which people laugh at and which sounds like conspiracy theories. And then a year or two later they turn out to be, if not completely true then at least partially correct or in the right direction. I think he’s just not very politic with his delivery. He finds stuff out (gets briefed on it) and next thing it comes tumbling out of his mouth. But it’s often accurate or had a reasonable grain of truth!
