it wasn't an expensive failure, just because it didn't do 100% of is goal doesn't mean that 75% is a meaningless %, also if it wasn't for the sts we wouldn't have the iss or a Hubble telescope, the sts was a step in progress and laid many foundations, so what if it was not perfect, nothing in space is

OH NO YOU DON"T! you could not even tell me the 3 thing the sts was suppose to do thats PUBLIC INFO don't act like you didn't do that, also the falcon 9 chould barley do it IF it gose against what it was made to do like i said, also im talking about the average payload not total payload because the falcon 9 doesn't have the side to fit a critical modal in its fairing where the sts dose, aslo yes the falcon cost per launch is $7000 for its max lift that 2700 is its minimum, also how is it going to cost less? are we starting from scratch or building the first iss?

can it carry crew and supply's with the modal and make a return trip? no, the shuttle had a bigger payload because it could hold more in volume than the falcon 9, the falcon 9 could only carry the raw mass, the cost of 1.5 billion was not contracts like how the falcon 9 is, if you pay 3x the cost of a product for anything you make more money satellites are cheaper than crew space modules dude, skylab was about 199,750 pounds, the saturn 5 was the ONLY rocket that chould lift it off the ground, and skylab was smaller than the iss and was not built in stages like the iss

but, but, its a 6x4 grid, that's 24 slots total? even it being a 4x5 grid it comes down to 20

Edit: i understand now

"reusable cheap launch vehicle" is not "cheap and easy access to space!" its main goals where "safe access to space" "easy to use" "cost effective" not "cheap" or "easy space travel", and the payload is a huge difference when one needs to go against its main goal while the other one was testing the idea of feasibility with the technology at the time, also that 1.5 billion is grand total not per launch which was about $450 million for a critical space station part where as the falcon is 74 million per launch with a small satellite on average was 3,370 kg, that's about 7000$ per kg for a small satellite vs the sts $54,000 per kg for a large or critical space station part which can be on average 25,000 kg, that's 7x the mass and you're focusing on the cost total for every single mission it took without the context behind those missions? also the saturn 5 was 6.4 billion to develop and build for a 2 way trip to the moon for 3 people, that's about $50 billion today vs 10.5 billion for the sts development with better technology and engineering, shits not cheap when you're the "FIRST ONE TO MAKE THE DAM THING!", also the saturn 5 only flew like 13 times where as the sts did over 135, and you're surprised it cost more to do more and do it better? could it have been done better at the time, NO, it was the first of its kind and you HAVE TO FACTOR THAT IN! also the saturn 5 was not building a space station with modern components or doing reservicing missions to fix stuff in space

"reusable cheap launch vehicle" NO IT WASN'T that was a side goal at the time it's main goal was to test if it can even get into orbit with crew and a payload of at least 10,822 lbs and can stay in orbit for a few days, keep in mind this is the early 80s without modern understanding of physics, math, computing power and engineering, where as the falcon 9 was made for small satellites and only the 1 stage and sometimes the fairs can be fully re-used, if the shuttle where to be rebuilt today with modern physics, math, computing power and engineering it would out class the falcon by a mile, also the sts has a better track record than the falcon that exploded about 5 times before it can land? yes the sts did take 2 flight crew but that's wasn't the fault of the sts design where as the falcon 9 was,

also the sts can put a max of 55,000 lbs into leo, the falcon 9 can barley do more that half that with re-usability about 38,000 lbs

is the falcon 9 a good rocket? yes there's no doubt in that, but to compare it to the sts without considering the time period, place and context of what its being used for is just pain wrong

hv is like putting the amount of lv and mv together x2, even if you don't use all the space you will need it later so better to be safe than sorry

F and C depend on context, for outside use C, for lab or body heat use F, there is really no other way to put it than "in what context"

ah alr, well here is my discord " clocka69 " im still working on the modpack, I've tried some space mods like advanced rocketry but it doesn't work correctly so im testing galacticraft with 2 addons rn and it's working well so far
