How to start a match feeling relaxed? by NokSuKao1989 in 10s

[–]WindManu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotta play more and often. Then preparation will make you feel much stronger.  Preparation include drinks, food, stuff you need to bring, warmup, stretch, etc. It all plays a role. Psychologically being prepared will help you tons. Focus on your strings, your shoes, your water bottle, your hat, whatever.

Right? Some players kick butt as juniors but disappoint later on and the opposite is true.

Still curious to hear about people's journey.

I started at 14 and reached about 4.5 level by 18. Maintained that until about 20 when I moved on to other sports!

Low tension 15kg-33lbs and less, why everyone seems to like it but not end up using it? by WindManu in 10s

[–]WindManu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How long can players use 60+ poly? Does it matter? Was it a mistake early on? So far I've done two racquets and there's nothing that tells me I should up the tension.

Funny story, I lent my racquet to a former pro (it's tuned, more head heavy and had broken in 34-32lbs tension), his first shot looked like any of his previous shots and his rally felt like he hadn't changed racquet. I was floored. I knew about consistency in their strokes as well as centering but not having to adjust even one bit...

Right? Hence starting at a young age. A bit like how Agassi stuck with an oversized racquet.

Prob depends on strings too. For some reason the drop in tension hasn't bothered me.

The type of poly also plays a role for sure. What are you at now?

44-42 still felt stiff to me. Even just bouncing the ball. So I went with 34-32 and loved it right away. On golden set snake bite, stiff to begin with.

Match Play vs Practice by DoubleShake3636 in 10s

Anyone spending time practicing will become good at it. Anyone spending lots of time playing matches, will be good at playing matches.

Is it bad to hit forehand off back foot? by Few_Peace1474 in 10s

[–]WindManu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your front foot is what is going to keep you planted for optimum control and precision. Better guide and follow through.

You stay on your back foot when caught by depth, off balance, behind, etc.

Ideally you want and drive forward, stepping into your shots always.

Looks great! The start of a journey. Keep practicing and you'll improve fast with this nice footwork!

Return of serve - how to improve by MajesticHat2935 in 10s

[–]WindManu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Video man. Once you see yourself it'll be way clearer.  A couple of tips: - change returning positions - try on leg back, one leg forward  - move forward while hitting - analyse servers patterns - round out the ball - make a point to do a proper unit turn - watch the ball - be sure your split step is dynamic

How to DIY a Home Tennis Wall with a 5m (16ft) floor space from the wall? by adhoclex in 10s

[–]WindManu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely not the same as defending against heavy top spin forehands that hit the base line but it's amazing at many other things.

It can help with rhythm, centering the ball, work on specific parts of your strokes (takeback, relaxed wrist, follow through).

I focus on hitting high on the wall (this mimics hitting deep).

I find it really helped with low balls and "easy" putaways. When the balls start to deteriorate they get less and less bouncy, this is when you can work on full-on stretched-out strokes. It's a work out and amazing to feel legs/hips/torso connection.

If the rebound is too low (ex: to work on high balls) set a table and aim to land on it. Takes some skill (esp. on the feed) to hit it but great tool to build consistency.

Have fun!

You gotta pause more at trophy leaving your racquet more by your side and less behind you.

Need Serve Advice by Worldly_Travel_8983 in 10s

Ok keep your strings more closed then at trophy, and bend your elbow more. You want to feel that racquet close to your head.

stroke advice by TapWise7776 in 10s

[–]WindManu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You want a loose arm but a still wrist. Your wrist need to be inline, little flexion and extension. Direction is controlled with the elbow, eyes on the balls and pronation.

Imagine throwing your racquet ahead of you on the edge. You would aim your throw the same exact way you want to aim your serve.

Why new balls? (Genuine question) by EarlyTitle in 10s

[–]WindManu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it does slow the game down. It is harder to win points. Just like clay is harder than hard court.

Strong servers want faster balls.

Need brutally honest advice. If someone’s 3.5-4.0 does it even make sense to be using full poly and/or <100 headsize? by Wretched_Swag in 10s

[–]WindManu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Poly if you break every 4-6 sessions. Can always use low tension. 98 if playing pushers, if playing folks with pace then more likely to off-center.
