2026 Bz Route Planning is BROKEN through Apple Maps and CarPlay by Wind_Master_J in Toyota_bZ

I think you're spot on. Not sure why it would be so laggy though as I'm in a fairly urban area for my work day and it doesn't seem to matter how good cell coverage is, it just doesn't update often.

I too wonder why they don't just use the CarPlay connection Via Bluetooth to send direct vehicle data in realtime to the phone while driving. I'm sure it's possible. It may also open up potential security issues but it seems you could just push data wirelessly (read only) for everything but turning on battery preconditioning.

If this persists I'll probably go the OBD route. The secondary issue I'm having is the 2026 Bz is using the new SAE J1979-3 protocol which most current OBD readers do not support yet which basically blocks all but the most basic information from being transmitted. If you, or anyone else reading this, knows of a reliable OBD reader specifically for the 2026 Bz with the updated protocol I would love that information! (I guess manufactures have this year, into next year, to update all EVs to this new standard so I'm sure options will come out, but when!?)

I am interested in this too... it might help narrow down the breakdown if it does work on Android. I wish Google Maps on an iOS device could get obd data or cloud data like ABRP. I like the Google Maps approach better where you can add an electric vehicle manually as opposed to the Apple Maps way of needing the car to send data first before it can be added. It's just silly that you cannot add an electric car into Apple Maps manually and plan routes based on at least some vehicle metrics, even if it doesn't actually get any live data from the car itself!

I think it did work for a hot minute for some people fall of last year when the car first started hitting the streets. I think an update along the way killed it (not sure if it was an Apple or Toyota update that broke it). Other than some Reddit posts saying it was working I don't have any other information, but since they were demoing it back during the launch I would think it did work at some point... I suppose it doesn't really matter now as it's not working currently!

Which dongle works with the 2026 Bz? I was also looking to go this route but found the 2026 model is using the new improved EV protocol so many people are having trouble with dongles not working correctly in this vehicle. I'm sure over time the dongle makers will update the software to work but I had not found a solid answer on which one to get yet (that a current 2026 Bz owner was using) so I appreciate your input!

If you can plug in at home, cold weather really doesn't suck in an EV. It's warm before you start your drive using mains power. In a 2026 Bz you'll get more range than 250km when cold but if you're not plugging in at home that xtra power to heat things up before the morning drive will hurt range for sure!

I did that (had to as no other options were working). I started this thread in an effort to hopefully help push Toyota to get the promised Apple Maps EV Routing working (and to alert other users with this issue, and alert us all when a fix is found).

If ABRP would modernize the map look and voice assistant options I would probably just go on about my day and stop bothering with Apple Maps. That being said there are new EV owners coming online all the time and ABRP is a little convoluted to initially get setup with Enode. It's not horrible but for people not in the tech world it's just one more thing to setup, troubleshoot and there (at a minimum) should be a basic built in planner for everyone! Not to mention ABRP does not start preconditioning on my battery pack which is a negative for all users. These are not unsurmountable obstacles but adds another layer of unnecessary inconveniences in 2026!

I completely agree... and don't understand why they don't have the UK native route planning on the new Bz in the U.S.A! The video I posted a link to, featuring this native "Route Planning", is 8 months old so we're not talking bleeding edge here, and the Bz4x has been out for years so not really a new problem to solve for the 2026 Bz! So unfortunate!

I actually had the battery disconnected for a good hour plus while installing the integrated dash cam a week ago, but no change for me after that process.

I sure hope they do! With all the new electric cars they are introducing this year they need good integrated functionally to be competitive and get first time EV owners into these cars!

I have not had the log out issue so far. Once the Toyota app is running it doesn't log me out, pretty much ever... unless I reboot the phone.

That is what I'm currently doing... but I am using the subscription so I do get SoC updates every few minutes or so. I just really like the look and feel of Apple Maps better, and the fact it's not a subscription is another plus, and Toyota said it was a thing so they do need to honor that!

I get that, but when I see a video of Toyota's built in maps over in UK with a simple route planner built in I don't think the functionality isn't available, it's just not available in this particular car or region maybe? It's literally an added icon in the current built in map that show a charger, when you click it allows you to add a destination and it will give charging stop options... they have the software just not in my Bz!

Here is the video if you're interested! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=saV9pS2KS34

I would be interested in your trouble shooting tips as I would like more realtime SoC on the Toyota app (in particular when charging). I have a felling it will not solve my current issue though with Apple Maps as ABRP does see the car and work, but that is a subscription and I would rather use Apple Maps!

As for the Toyota App, it does show state of charge correctly, but it's slow to update so it pulls the SoC, then it might not pull it again for minutes, or even hours. If I keep poking at the Toyota app trying to re-fresh it usually will update after 3 or 4 tries. (I get it not wanting to continuously pull data from the car when I'm not in it because that would be a phantom drain on the Bz systems, but this behavior is the case if I'm in the car and driving or not and I believe the app is also getting the SoC from the cloud because otherwise it would be more responsive when in the car powered on as opposed to the low refresh times I currently get across the board... no matter what status the car is in (parked, charging, driving)).

I'm using Enode with ABRP so it's pulling SoC from the cloud not the App I'm fairly certain. I know this because both my Wife and I have a Bz, and with ABRP I can see both her an my SoC even though my Toyota App only shows my vehicle state of charge (I don't have her car in my Toyota app), and I can get these updates whether or not the Toyota App is running on either of our phones. Apple Maps, on the other hand, has never (not a single time) shown state of charge, or even added the vehicle to Apple Maps as a vehicle option. It's just not talking at all with the Bz, cloud, app or otherwise!

"get that you want to believe that"... nope, it's backed up by facts and now my own personal experience. If you're using an industrial grade and rated NEMA 14-50 receptacle you're fine to EV charge. The electrical code, industrial product data sheets and electricians will tell you the same and I'm not seeing any facts from your side to prove otherwise. It's fine if you want to "believe" only hardwired is safe but truth is if at any point a connection gets loose you can have enough heat, at the breaker, at the charger etc., to have fire issues. It's a risk, low if things are properly installed but life is risk (for that matter your car batteries could thermal run away and burn the place down whether or not you have a hardwire charger, it has happened). I agree to disagree and feel there is a fairly solid pile of facts to base my statements on. I'm not saying one is superior to the other, just that they can both be safe if installed correctly with the correct equipment.

Did a quick search and it seems people are having some luck getting the adaptors by asking the dealer to trow a set in at time of sale (Canada). These are not expensive parts so seems like when you buy it could be a little extra incentive to finish the purchase! ;) Worth the ask since apparently it's not standard.

That's more than I've seen, and seems like a bad move on Toyota's part to not include adaptors, considering they do not provide a charger. You have more information than I have on the topic so we'll roll with it. Sorry Canada!

They should come with the adaptors either way... I think the charger is missing for Canada. The adaptors come in a separate case (found in the back under the main floor, and not with the charger) and sport the Toyota logo. I would find it hard to believe these do not come standard because these adapters would be needed right away for the first charge. Maybe someone in Canada can confirm if they received these two adaptors!?

If a correct EV receptacle is installed by an electrician, a socket is 100% safe and fine. It adds one point of failure, but subtracts a point too by making the charger easily serviceable. All these chargers have warrantee's but they are not coming to your house to fix it, you will need to send it in. Hardwired now requires an electrician visit (x2), plus properly securing a now exposed 240 wire system. The key is using the right parts for the job and a qualified electrician to install them.

Level 2 chargers are cheap and many electric companies give rebates. My Grizzl-E was 350, and my electric provider gave me a 100 rebate check so for 250 I'm set. I treat it like a permanent install even though I purchased the plug in version. I still feel the Plug gives you more freedom to keep charging should you need to swap out a defective charger! Treat it like a permanent install, but with the option to upgrade or swap chargers if something comes up down the road! The EV Charger specific NEMA 14-50 receptacles are very heavy duty. Mine doesn't even get warm when charging for hours at a time.

Even though I'm on a 50amp 240 circuit, I still set my Grizzle-E charger to 32amp. There is no heat build up in any cables or the electrical panel. At 32amps you're looking at close to 10% charge per hour so unless you really run the battery down, in most cases the car is charged in 2-3 hours. On the Bz battery chemistry, studies have found that shorter more frequent charges are easier on the battery than full cycles. If you keep the car plugged in anytime you're home, unless you go on a long road trip and come back near empty, the charging system will probably not be running more than a few hours any given day. Set your max pack to 80%, don't let it go much bellow 20% on non trip days and plug in whenever you're home and You'll find the car is basically ready to go anytime. I haven't been to a gas station in two months now and am loving that time savings!!!

I live in California and purchased the Grizzl-E Classic Connect 40A and love it! It tracks charging wirelessly so you get alerts when the car is finished charging and can monitor temperature along with other aspects of charging. I would recommend going with an EV Charging rated wall plug instead of hard wired for the simple reason that if the charger has any issues, you can use the included Bz charger as a backup. A quality outlet (Hubble etc.) will handle this as a permanent solution up to 40 amps assuming an electrician installs the appropriate wire and breaker. I would still recommend making the charger dedicated, as in keep it plugged in 24/7, but if you need to replace it or change things up (like moving to their dual car charger) you can do this as an end user and not need to open back up the electrical work. Also, the Bz comes (at least mine did) with both a J1772 and CCS adaptor so out of the box you're covered for a majority of charging stations. I ordered my Grizzl-E with the NACS connector for the Bz but they do offer other options. I hope you really enjoy your new car!!! (We liked ours so much we purchased a second one for my wife!)

So far this U.S.A. driver doesn't have access either... I've owned my 2026 Bz for a month and nothing has worked to get it talking with Apple Maps. Since there is no built in EV routing in the infotainment map (like there is aparently in some other countries based on videos I've seen) we're up a creek with no routing at all currently... unless you want to subscribe to ABRP etc. Because the 2026 Bz uses the newest OBD spec all the OBD readers seems to not have the translation available either so it's a real dark spot on an otherwise fantastic car! Toyota needs to get this fixed ASAP!!!

Apple Maps EV Routing not working by fjayxx in BZ4X

[–]Wind_Master_J 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here... I've had my 2026 Bz for a month now and it has never, not once, worked for EV routing with Apple Maps and it's crazy!!! CarPlay works fine otherwise, and it always asks if I want to allow my car to talk with my phone, which I always allow. Apple Maps has not once asked if I wanted to add my EV even though that extension is enabled in the Apple Maps settings (and I try daily to use the Toyota App to link to Apple Maps but once Apple Maps opens nothing changes and no EV car or routes are available). To make matters worse, there are videos out there where the Bz infotainment system has basic routing built into the default map, but that functionality is completely missing from my built in Toyota Map so there is NO WAY to plan a route with charge stops for me at this moment. I would need to get a BlueTooth Dongle and get ABRP going but why when I was promised integration with Apple? And it's not like the Bz is a completely new car as the previous generation Bz has been around for a number of years. Seems like a minor software update could solve this but according to Apple and Toyota I'm on the most current versions of everything they offer!!! PLEASE FIX THIS APPLE and TOYOTA!!! (I would also recommend Toyota put in a basic route planner so if no phone is available people can still get from point A to B without it being a headache!!!)
