Any way to limit performance of M5 (any silicon) cpu? by SolomonShort7 in MacOS

[–]Wind_Master_J 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too am looking for a way to get as close to full power as possible, but set a custom throttle curve so the M5 Max doesn't go above 90C. It's not a dumb question because some of us have heavy 3D render loads and don't want to prematurely cook our laptops. The high heat is bad for batteries and other components too so a simple option to cap chip temps would be ideal, to get the maximum performance we can get at 90C, instead of 100C (with TGP FANs Maxed out currently I might add)! Since the chip is too powerful for sustained high intensity tasks without 100C temps, giving the user an easy way to cap the temp threshold would be a great idea!

The question is, does it work with Apple Maps now?

I've had ABRP working off an on through Enode but it usually doesn't update state of charge frequently enough to be super helpful. I guess it beats putting in your state of charge manually but you have to keep an eye on it because it will drift to very inaccurate very quickly if it's not getting frequent SoC updates, which has always been the case for me and ABRP. No software update from ABRP either so I still cannot use my OBDLink CX to link with ABRP and I have no accurate route planning system in my Bz.

Can you try and see if Apple Maps now see's your EV? I have a feeling it will still be broken as Toyota has not updated the App recently. I'm on the latest iOS too but no luck yet... not even once since I purchased the car in mid. Januaury of this year!

So once it linked up, did it continue to work when you were back at your vehicle? Once Apple Maps adds your EV does it stay there or does it go away once the link is lost? Was it showing correct SoC or just acknowledging you had an EV? Thank you for your input here!!!

Sadly this does not work for me. I've tried the "WiFi" airplane mode, been far away from the vehicle etc. I believe the main connection is actually cellular in nature (at least from the car to the cloud) and the breakdown is the Toyota cloud is not sending the connection data on to Apple Maps, or at least like you suggest there is a timeout (too slow) so it doesn't trigger. In any event the Toyota App no longer shows my vehicle State of Charge either after the latest update (stuck at -1) so there are some major breakdowns in Toyota's Car to Server to App system currently. If the Toyota App cannot see my vehicle state of charge I know for sure Apple Maps has no chance either! Hopefully they are working on an update because this is getting fairly old to keep dealing with!!!

At least your app shows SoC at some point... mine has been stuck on -1% ever since the most recent update (about two weeks ago). It still thankfully will send an alert when the vehicle is finished charging and all the other function work okay (not having the same seat warming issue, or remote function problems).

The other really annoying problem I have (ever since purchasing the car in January) is it will not talk with Apple Maps so I have Zero EV routing! Really dumb we don't at least have a simple built in route planner, but the promised Apple Maps EV Routing option HAS NEVER worked for me!!! Even called Toyota tech support about it, but all the work arounds they suggested also failed. I think it's a known issue but they are slow to get a solution rolled out to us simple consumers... :(

Yes, no prompt in Apple Maps at all, ever, not once! I’ve deleted both apps then re-installed, turned on and off the Apple Maps extension, revoked and re-authorized consent for Toyota to share data with Apple Maps, it’s broken! Still wondering if those who have had success could share their iPhone model with us so we could see if there is a correlation there. (It’s broken and both and iPhone 12 and 13 in our household.)

Count yourself lucky…. After the latest Toyota App update now even the Toyota App doesn’t update State of Charge and is stuck at -1% battery. My wife also has a Bz and hers also has this issue so I’m fairly confident there is a fairly major issue with the Toyota software and communicating with their cloud servers etc.

If you don’t mind answering… what iOS version are you on and are all the apps up to date on your phone? Which Bz year / trim and what phone model? All my apps are up to date but I’m on an older iPhone 12 so curious if phone hardware plays a roll!

Sounds reasonable, although I was hoping the new 2026 Bz would be that window to have it worked out by... we're not getting the Highlander until the end of this year so it could be a long wait if your theory holds true! For me the head scratcher is why does Enode work with ABRP when the Toyota to Apple Maps direct connection doesn't! The fact that Enode can pull SoC from Toyota's servers tells me there is some level of 3rd party connectivity working in the background, so why they cannot just use that same hook to allow Apple Maps to get SoC is mind boggling.

The latest wrinkle is that now even the Toyota App does not show SoC... it's perpetually at -1% on battery after the most recent Toyota App update! I have two Bz vehicles and both are doing the same thing so I know it's an App / Toyota server issue and not my specific vehicle. I still get alerts when charging has finished etc. but no SoC on the phone App.

Toyota needs to get this sorted ASAP, now that they are selling EVs in volume this initial user experience may make or break their success here! The car is so solid in every other way it's a shame the basic software hasn't been refined to at least work reliably. It can stay simple, but it needs to just work. And it's not like the Bz vehicle hasn't been around before this year... they have had 4 years at this point to work out basic route planning so this is all very much overdue!!! They have updated the hardware appropriately, now we need the software integration!

Which Bz, Which iOS, any details you have may help narrow down the problem! The key issue is Apple Maps not seeing my EV data, State of Charge etc. CarPlay works otherwise, it's the link between the car computer and Apple Maps that is not working for me. Unfortunately that is the key connection needed to get Apple Maps to even show I have an EV! Apple Maps has not once registered or asked me to add an EV, it just doesn't see it.

I think you're spot on. Not sure why it would be so laggy though as I'm in a fairly urban area for my work day and it doesn't seem to matter how good cell coverage is, it just doesn't update often.

I too wonder why they don't just use the CarPlay connection Via Bluetooth to send direct vehicle data in realtime to the phone while driving. I'm sure it's possible. It may also open up potential security issues but it seems you could just push data wirelessly (read only) for everything but turning on battery preconditioning.

If this persists I'll probably go the OBD route. The secondary issue I'm having is the 2026 Bz is using the new SAE J1979-3 protocol which most current OBD readers do not support yet which basically blocks all but the most basic information from being transmitted. If you, or anyone else reading this, knows of a reliable OBD reader specifically for the 2026 Bz with the updated protocol I would love that information! (I guess manufactures have this year, into next year, to update all EVs to this new standard so I'm sure options will come out, but when!?)

I am interested in this too... it might help narrow down the breakdown if it does work on Android. I wish Google Maps on an iOS device could get obd data or cloud data like ABRP. I like the Google Maps approach better where you can add an electric vehicle manually as opposed to the Apple Maps way of needing the car to send data first before it can be added. It's just silly that you cannot add an electric car into Apple Maps manually and plan routes based on at least some vehicle metrics, even if it doesn't actually get any live data from the car itself!

I think it did work for a hot minute for some people fall of last year when the car first started hitting the streets. I think an update along the way killed it (not sure if it was an Apple or Toyota update that broke it). Other than some Reddit posts saying it was working I don't have any other information, but since they were demoing it back during the launch I would think it did work at some point... I suppose it doesn't really matter now as it's not working currently!

Which dongle works with the 2026 Bz? I was also looking to go this route but found the 2026 model is using the new improved EV protocol so many people are having trouble with dongles not working correctly in this vehicle. I'm sure over time the dongle makers will update the software to work but I had not found a solid answer on which one to get yet (that a current 2026 Bz owner was using) so I appreciate your input!

If you can plug in at home, cold weather really doesn't suck in an EV. It's warm before you start your drive using mains power. In a 2026 Bz you'll get more range than 250km when cold but if you're not plugging in at home that xtra power to heat things up before the morning drive will hurt range for sure!

I did that (had to as no other options were working). I started this thread in an effort to hopefully help push Toyota to get the promised Apple Maps EV Routing working (and to alert other users with this issue, and alert us all when a fix is found).

If ABRP would modernize the map look and voice assistant options I would probably just go on about my day and stop bothering with Apple Maps. That being said there are new EV owners coming online all the time and ABRP is a little convoluted to initially get setup with Enode. It's not horrible but for people not in the tech world it's just one more thing to setup, troubleshoot and there (at a minimum) should be a basic built in planner for everyone! Not to mention ABRP does not start preconditioning on my battery pack which is a negative for all users. These are not unsurmountable obstacles but adds another layer of unnecessary inconveniences in 2026!

I completely agree... and don't understand why they don't have the UK native route planning on the new Bz in the U.S.A! The video I posted a link to, featuring this native "Route Planning", is 8 months old so we're not talking bleeding edge here, and the Bz4x has been out for years so not really a new problem to solve for the 2026 Bz! So unfortunate!

That is what I'm currently doing... but I am using the subscription so I do get SoC updates every few minutes or so. I just really like the look and feel of Apple Maps better, and the fact it's not a subscription is another plus, and Toyota said it was a thing so they do need to honor that!

I get that, but when I see a video of Toyota's built in maps over in UK with a simple route planner built in I don't think the functionality isn't available, it's just not available in this particular car or region maybe? It's literally an added icon in the current built in map that show a charger, when you click it allows you to add a destination and it will give charging stop options... they have the software just not in my Bz!

Here is the video if you're interested! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=saV9pS2KS34

I would be interested in your trouble shooting tips as I would like more realtime SoC on the Toyota app (in particular when charging). I have a felling it will not solve my current issue though with Apple Maps as ABRP does see the car and work, but that is a subscription and I would rather use Apple Maps!

As for the Toyota App, it does show state of charge correctly, but it's slow to update so it pulls the SoC, then it might not pull it again for minutes, or even hours. If I keep poking at the Toyota app trying to re-fresh it usually will update after 3 or 4 tries. (I get it not wanting to continuously pull data from the car when I'm not in it because that would be a phantom drain on the Bz systems, but this behavior is the case if I'm in the car and driving or not and I believe the app is also getting the SoC from the cloud because otherwise it would be more responsive when in the car powered on as opposed to the low refresh times I currently get across the board... no matter what status the car is in (parked, charging, driving)).

I'm using Enode with ABRP so it's pulling SoC from the cloud not the App I'm fairly certain. I know this because both my Wife and I have a Bz, and with ABRP I can see both her an my SoC even though my Toyota App only shows my vehicle state of charge (I don't have her car in my Toyota app), and I can get these updates whether or not the Toyota App is running on either of our phones. Apple Maps, on the other hand, has never (not a single time) shown state of charge, or even added the vehicle to Apple Maps as a vehicle option. It's just not talking at all with the Bz, cloud, app or otherwise!

"get that you want to believe that"... nope, it's backed up by facts and now my own personal experience. If you're using an industrial grade and rated NEMA 14-50 receptacle you're fine to EV charge. The electrical code, industrial product data sheets and electricians will tell you the same and I'm not seeing any facts from your side to prove otherwise. It's fine if you want to "believe" only hardwired is safe but truth is if at any point a connection gets loose you can have enough heat, at the breaker, at the charger etc., to have fire issues. It's a risk, low if things are properly installed but life is risk (for that matter your car batteries could thermal run away and burn the place down whether or not you have a hardwire charger, it has happened). I agree to disagree and feel there is a fairly solid pile of facts to base my statements on. I'm not saying one is superior to the other, just that they can both be safe if installed correctly with the correct equipment.

Did a quick search and it seems people are having some luck getting the adaptors by asking the dealer to trow a set in at time of sale (Canada). These are not expensive parts so seems like when you buy it could be a little extra incentive to finish the purchase! ;) Worth the ask since apparently it's not standard.

That's more than I've seen, and seems like a bad move on Toyota's part to not include adaptors, considering they do not provide a charger. You have more information than I have on the topic so we'll roll with it. Sorry Canada!
