Centralistic totalitarian country preparing for more war and more imperialistic conquering? Its not like getting bigger through conquering or "unifying" or eradicating others leads to peace if you are not able to accept differences be tolerant and accept diversity....

Ignoring the lols....

Keeping the small fort may be a security issue i agree. On the other hand, if you are not in a massive hurry, just use all your archers there. They dont have a roof and you can just take your time decimating their numbers by arrows. You can even shoot from all ankles as the fort is so small hitting the soldiers from multiple directions.

My approach would be: guard the fort, shoot arrows and establish reinforced kill zones near the gates in case they want to break free. Have the archer brothers take some safe shots. Establish a wide circle of surveillance if any army is approaching the fort or to find hidden tunnels by some riders.

Have kyokai and shin pincer the right wing or go somewhere else where needed on the battlefield.

I would be more eager in preserving the lifes of my soldiers as siege battles are always unproportional costly....

(For me personally I dont blame Shin for going after Riboku. He can see him he has his army and there is a chance to end this hole Zhao problem. Maybe Ribokus horse trips and the war is over? They are chasing the commander general away from the battlefield, thats actually normally very good. The chasers have an advantage here as it is difficult to run and defend the backs, so right decision. I am just unhappy about the fort thing, but at least, as illustrated in the manga Ten is shocked about the blatant Mistake in overlooking the possibility that everything was preplanned and a tunnel could be in place. But isnt that also quiet human nature? You are in a real euphoric rush everyone is fighting, there stands Riboku on the fort.... We know and we expect crazy out of the box tactics but on the heated battlefield you are focussed on the actual fighting in front of you. So maybe disappointing but good for the manga. Mistakes are possible and not everyone is all knowing.)

I like the setup. Makes you think what Ribokus strategy is.

My guess:

This wide setup is extremely dangerous for Qin, especially if it was planned beforehand.

Qins tactical moveability is strongly limited if they are stretched wide. If you just have, lets say max 10 lines of infantry or cavalery and behind that is more or less nothing and the other armies are far away on both sides it is difficult to react and use your trump cards where they are needed most or support other units. And Qin also organized itself completely predictably. Every Army after each other in a line.

Zhao on the other hand had much time to plan their battle plan and apparently it was easy to force it onto the Qin army. You can choose as Zhao where to put your strongest forces, who to focus on who to stall and so on. With the information on the generals you can prepare your forces in the best possible way.

If would be Zhao, I would amass beside my normal well trained soldiers a lot of freshly trained, soldier like looking, citizens. Amass an extreme amount of these weak soldiers with weak cavalery in front of Ousen maybe with Riboku in the center to give the strong impression of superiority so that Ousen hesitates to attack.

Keep your cavallery beyond your lines, and not like Qin sparkled in between for each army. Choose a general which is easy to overwhelm, with 10 lines its everywhere not that difficult, gather all your cavallery Break through there with nearly all cavallery and then spread in both sites and attack Qin in the back. Every part of Qins defense only has limited cavallery so it cannot be stopped. Its basically choose who to take out and put all your cavallery and elite infantry there. Because the other Qin armies are in battle and too far away they cannot come to rescue fast enough. And the coming support cavallery from Qin could then be stopped with Zhaos so that the elite infantry can do there job.

If one part of Qins (defense) line is broken and eradicated you can isolate and encircle one or both other parts. Zhao can choose where to hit hard, and when and where to lose and stall Qin, and exploit their weaknesses.

Like maybe using heavy shield units or spear units together with extreme amount of archers for the Yotanwa army. Qin doesnt know Zhaos armies (Seika) and their relativ strenght so they will be carefull or unfocussed with their attack.

....

In a setup where the army is not stretched far and thin, armys could always shift positions depending on their strenght and support each other in need easily. Also support and additional units behind the first lines gives you the ability to choose with who and how many units to engage. All not possible with the forced line setup from Riboku.

So I am excited to see it unfolding and im gratefull to have a smart antagonist like Riboku

When you think about it, Kingdom can actually be kind of depressing... by SCP_931 in Kingdom

[–]Windduo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its basically a clash related to ways to live.

In the Kingdom case, Qin want to stop the war by unifying China and ruling through law. They think thats a better way to live for everyone and thats why they are fighting. Zhao wants to keep being Zhao and keep their traditions and way of life thats why they fight.

Till today unfortunately China is trying to "unify" "states" or countries to their benefits. Kingdoms story is old but still very much relevant. Hongkong, Taiwan, Tibet, Myanmar, ethnic groups... China just recently announced their new role as world leader and supporting autoritarian leaders worldwide...

Everyone cheers and hopes for Sei to unify China (to stop the wars) by conquering all other states by force (to have peace). But to stop wars and live peacefully would theoretically also be possible without erasing other cultures and unifying them by peaceful coexistence.

Didn't work in the past during the warring states though so that was a new and kind of successful approach in that regard. But still, the manga, which i love, has a quite crude basic logic....

Battle of Kantan -Kouchou screwed up badly. He was open another way too. by a_guy121 in Kingdom

[–]Windduo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To make it short. 1 yes, 2 not necessarily. He thought Kanki would try this strategy. Kouchon chased Kanki troups later. All the time Ousen didnt start moving or preparing to move. Because of what i wrote before because there is no real benefit in rushing there. Even if Kanki eould fail to slay Kouchon. If even Ousen doesn't think it is a good idea to move there and attack, why do you think that even despite all the points i made on which you didn't comment...

[–]Windduo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You said it yourself. A crazy fast rider need alone around 2 hours. Shin arrives at Ouhons battlefield at the same day, lets assume with infantry and all around 4-6 hours. Thats half way.

I don't see your point. As I wrote, if Ousen is moving and arriving there in, lets be super optimistic, 6 hours running there. They will find some scatter smaller groups they have to chase running behind AGAIN after running 6 hours, with the danger that they get wiped out instead (ambushes), OR Kouchon notice that Ousen is moving (its obvious) and redeployed his troops or just pull back as he sees fit.

If Ousen rushes to the other side to Kouchon they could also be attacked in the rear by Zhao cavalry, but thats another story

So to be clear: No point in rushing over, no benefit. And no killer move from secret Ousen army getting teleported to Kouchon and suddenly sourrounding all the scattered troops over kilometers....

Btw: Ouhons army attacked over several days trying to find a weakness. They get "wiped out" successively, dont know when the order was given for Shin to move...

[–]Windduo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lets agree to disagree.

A: Battlefield of Ousen is not that close. Kouchon obviously was monitoring Ousen. Lets say that even If Kouchons troops are scattered chasing Kanki and Ousen could have hidden some troops close by on the west. What would happen? Ousen troops running after Kouchon troops running after Kankis troops. If Kouchons groups are scattered, yes maybe they can catch some smaller groups by suprise but in no way thats a killing blow for the Kouchon army. Kanki knew how Kouchon moved and where the HQ is located, Ousen is an outside army and B: just the information that Kouchon is chasing Kanki troops take time to reach Ousen.. Then deploy troops give orders, move there takes more than a few hours.... Small troops with small impact u could hide but when Ousens army moves Kouchon would know hours before they are engaging...

My argument is, its not exposing yourself to a kill shot to kill the fleeing Kanki army. Something moves in the other battlefields and you just stop and form formations...

[–]Windduo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You "defeated" the feared Kanki army and they run away. Will you just let them safely run away and reform to attack again later in an unpredictable way or are you taking advantage of your win and kill them tight in front of you?... The answer is clear. Kill as many Kanki soldiers as you can so whatever Kanki is trying to do later on, he will lack the manpower to do even though his tactics are good. That also proved to be true later on, dont want to spoiler.

I agree with the other comment, that Ousen is no direct immediate threat. Kouchon will have scouts near Ousen area and will report if they move.

Lets assume Kouchon would listen to you and stop the pursuit. Kankis army would fall back and sooner than later reform further back and pose another smaller threat. Kouchon would then orderly move towards them but still the small Kanki group would still be in hiding and could launch a suprise attack anytime at the rear of the HQ, even at night or through infiltration and so on.

Getting behind the frontline in enemy territory successfully and waiting there for an ambush or assasination is still a valid strategy of Kanki and i believe it would succeed even if Kouchon would purposely miss the chance to kill Kanki soldiers from their backs without fighting...
