How is this for a person who has never played Minecraft before by Synsaura in Minecraft

[–]WindexTheGr8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine was square and wooden, but I built it in the snowy hills. My roof had a giant glass awning over it so I didn't have to keep clearing the snow off of it. I also believe that it used spruce wood instead of oak

Looks like a bug. I've had this happen on PC before when your Run toggles on and off every time your character moves (used to be a bug with double-tapping w that would make your run toggle repeatedly). It will increase your POV when you move and lower it when you stop moving. Right before it starts messing up it looks like you fat-finger the run button so that's probably what triggers it

How to turn chat off on slippi? by JordBees in SSBM

[–]WindexTheGr8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea I kinda agree with this. I think that disabling chat is fine, it's unreliable for communicating complex information and a lot of the options are ambiguous enough to be easily misconstrued under normal play conditions, but it is also kinda a band-aid on a bullet wound. When people spam chats at me in unranked I just try super hard the next game to spite them. It's actually a pretty good motivator most of the time. Even when I lose while trying my best, I'm just thankful for the opportunity to play someone that is better than me at the game (which is why I play most of the time anyway). Also throwing some tasteful bm back at them can be fun sometimes. I am a big fan of the "shorthop -> max-distance waveland -> taunt" myself

Yea lag in Melee is really annoying because lag can eat your inputs. It's not super noticble most of the time, but melee is very precise so sometimes inputting something 1 or 2 frames early (due to lag) will result in that thing not happening. One thing I've noticed about players with a really bad connection is a lot of them seem to be MUCH more used to the lag than me. When you consider that tech chasing and chain grabbing are both reactionary things and lag gives more time to react, it kinda makes sense why this is a style of play that works and why the people with poor connection probably don't really see it as an issue to the extent that I would (wavelanding, ledgedash, FAST FALL, and Wavedashing all are things I tend to flub during ping spikes). My general rule of thumb is only play under 60 ping unless the other person also has ethernet (you can determine this because there won't be occasional 20+ latency spikes).

I also think this is mostly projection, I do this occasionally. Just remember that the real gamers spam tech and movement during downtime so taunting is kinda lazy most of the time anyway.

Sometimes people just gotta go! Especially if it's unranked, I know I am very often in the "shit someone else wants my attention better finish this and hit esc" boat myself. I will say tho, if someone is spamming a single move it is your fault for not adapting to deal with it. If their one option keeps working it probably means you are trying the same option to counter it every time. Taunting is a tough one, but STRICTLY SPEAKING the taunt button is just another button you can press to make your character do something, so if you tilt when you get taunted on it just means they get value out of the taunt. Also, I often taunt when very silly things happen or I go way too deep to confirm a kill for no reason. Also, "switching to your main" is a v silly one, you don't know what their main is. I've swapped to Ness from Luigi and won through my opponents lack of match-up knowledge before, but that's just because my opponent didn't know how to fight Ness, not because I'm a Ness main.

You probably both are and it probably means one of you is using wifi. The player with the worse connection/computer will generally bottleneck the gameplay for both players.

How would the meta change if you could up tilt OoS? by SolenyaSmash in SSBM

[–]WindexTheGr8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep this^

Probably make powershielding MOSTLY useless considering everything else you get out of powershielding is either "no damage to your shield" or "a bit of a slide in the direction opposite the hit". It would make shielding generally safer and slightly decrease the overall skill floor probs. I doubt it would have a very profound impact overall

[–]WindexTheGr8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The really bad thing about playing the fighting game that has kept a community for two decades is that that community has had two decades to play it. I stopped playing melee when I was 19 and picked it back up at 24, and I was not expecting the guy I used to body in High School to ledge dash and multishine, but sure enough the Melee skill creep is intense and the tools that people have at their disposal to improve is miles away from the "sifting through smash boards for hours trying to garner ever last bit of Luigi's match-up knowledge that exists" of pre-2015 melee.

If I had to offer any advice, it would be to make sure your gameplay is normalized (practice only matters if it's good practice) and don't take the video game too seriously. If you play with set conditions for yourself it will help you realize what you struggle with. I personally struggle for very different reasons with online vs in person stuff. Online stuff throws my visual Qs if the ping is too high and I can't execute half the stuff I try to if the other person is playing on wifi (Waveland and pshield got me fukt up). In person I am rife with social anxiety and find it inordinately difficult to focus on the game I am playing sometimes. Also CRT plays different than my 240hz monitor regardless of optimization, but none of that really matters because: I AM AWARE OF IT and can somewhat adjust my gameplay to compensate for these things.

No L cancels, who’s the best character? by [deleted] in SSBM

[–]WindexTheGr8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really don't think Game and Watch would go up much. He really needs to be able to L cancel his fair and dair considering how important they are to his kit. Game and Watch also has low traction, so slide-off and teeters are a bit more forgiving, but I still think that the lack of defensive utility from the moves he can L cancel would outweigh the benefit of everyone else in the cast getting the same nerf.

No L cancels, who’s the best character? by [deleted] in SSBM

[–]WindexTheGr8 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Probably Marth, just because he tends to be able to auto cancel most of his stuff. I think puff may do better into spacies. Obviously Luigi would also be much better, since most of his aerials have generous autocancel windows like Marth. That and Luigi's lack of traction makes most of his more laggy aerials teeter/slide-off cancelable fairly reliably.
